Connorrrr
Any thoughts and theories on tonights episode? As far as I'm aware the aliens following about Amy are The Silent. As in the guys who blew up the Tardis in series 5. Also they have a Tardis-like thingy from The Lodger. I'm not a big Doctor Who fan but I watched the last half hour or so of it, and it was pretty good. the preview for the next episode looked interesting. deanb
Yeah the start of this one was pretty important. Mainly for why Amy screamed out "I'm saving your life"
Connorrrr
I'll probably watch the repeat or watch it on iplayer at some point, but I got the general gist of what was going on from my parents who were watching since the beginning. deanb
That's TV only isn't it? I watched live on Iplayer (though I guess that would be even easier to track)
Mr W Phallus
Wow, the least watched? But the last series was by far the best, and this one looks set to be just as good. Really enjoyed yesterday's episode, even though it was a bit heavy handed in setting up the series arc and dropping mysteries and cliffhangers left right and centre. Of course it's so long since I've watched a TV show on a weekly basis as it's released that waiting for the next episode is pretty much unbearable, cliffhangers or not. deanb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMUjrlYwE70 Oh on the numbers it supposedly did really well in America. It's kinda the same with Primaeval I guess.
Mister Jack
Would I be missing out if I started watching this new series without having ever seen the older series first?
deanb
Not too much (though River Song would be even more of a mystery) But if you're wanting to get into it in as short as time as possible start with series 5( it's just started series 6) the one with Matt Smith starting and the new head writer/head honcho (Steven Moffat) It's a UK series, so they're only like 12-13 episodes a pop. About 2.5 American Series for all the new Doctor Who.
Mister Jack
Well I mean the 2005 series in relation to the 1960s one.
deanb
Oh. Yeah you don't miss too much. The 2005 series makes a few small references to the old, but with the time gap between the old n new it's its own beast. I'm a fan and I've only see a handful of the old stuff. Some of it is a bit too old. (well that and the BBC re-used the film on some of the really old ones so they're kinda gone forever. Huge bounty if you have copies of the reels)
Enervation
I personally recommend starting with David Tennant's Doctor. I like to let people judge for themselves whether they appreciate him or Matt Smith more, when they finally get to the 11th Doctor.

Nexus
River Song: “What’re you doing?” The Doctor: “Helping you.” River Song: “You’ve got a screwdriver. Go and build a cabinet.” Also, WHAT
deanb
River Song: “What’re you doing?” The Doctor: “Helping you.” River Song: “You’ve got a screwdriver. Go and build a cabinet.” Also, WHAT hehe. Also you know you're doing something strange when even the crazy man in the street runs away from you. So it's reckoned that she is Rory n Amys child with "time head". Especially since the alternative is Doctor n Amy doing it at some point and apparently never remembering it*. Which I guess given the current enemy is possible. I still think that the start of the first episode is going to happen at some point. Also I think the Doctor has an inkling on who the girl is given how ready he was to jsut drop the question of who she was and why the silent wanted her. Why they wanted her is possibly to do with the fact they have make shift TARDISes. *Oh I guess the child could be river songs, but she'd remember having a kid with the doctor surely? And how would the kid end up all the way back in time? She doesn't act like she has a missing child. either way this bit is spoilers for future: She comes back as an older version in Neil Gaimmans episode; The Doctors Wife. p.s Rory is a nurse It's alright. It's quite alright. I'm dying. I can fix that. It's easy really. See Question is, how did she know?
Mr W Phallus
Figured it was Amy's child but I'm not so sure about Rory being the father . I dunno, seems too simple. It's alright. It's quite alright. I'm dying. I can fix that. It's easy really. See Question is, how did she know? Same way she knew how to breath etc.? Surely it a natural thing. Also is this the Doctor's final version (you know how he could only have a finite number of reincarnations) because if it is does that mean the next Doctor will be female? . Nah this is the 11th of 12. And the finite regens isn't biological so much as time lord policy. They can have less or more. Potentially as the last time lord and beholden to no one he can have as many as he wants. As for breathing I get that it would be natural thing to be able to regenerate, but she clearly knew she had the capability to do it before she regenerated. Also I just remembered, timelords can detect other timelords. So he should notice surely?

Is the detection thing mentioned post-reboot cos they could always just ignore it. It does seem familiar though as I've heard it mentioned (I've only watched the post reboot episodes). Maybe he has noticed, though, at the end he was all keen on going after...it...but then is like 'or how about we go adventuring instead' and you'd expect him to be more curious if he didn't know what...it...was. Besides the Doctor is beginning to rival Batman in the 'had it figured out from square one and it was all just part of the plan' department. deanb
He mentioned it with The Master. He used the Angel Network to hide his timelordiness from the doctor. And yeah he was a bit suspicious in the "lets not go find out who she is" stuff. She could be the doctors daughter. The old one cloned from him. RTD wrote her in as dying, Moffat asked him to change it so she could come back to life at the end. Maybe silent picked her up a few regens later to use her on their TARDIS? edit: Just realised Can't be amy's child. Time-lord/human hybrids can't regenerate. I'll let the doctor himself explain: . Also mostly rules out river too. Amy could be timelady but she's kept it quiet.
Mr W Phallus
Is that from the last series and a half of the David Tennant doctor? I haven't seen them cos I over-saturated myself when I watched the series before this one followed by the rest of the reboot up until half way through the Tennant run. Enervation
He's just absolutely appalled with Amy's actions in that episode. I found it slightly amusing. He's also pretty appalled with everyone's reactions when they see the Silents. "Why doesn't anyone just keep their eyes on it while they shout they're looking at a freaking ugly alien while they're looking at a freaking ugly alien? Why turn away? Do they want to get killed?" Thursday Next
Doesn't River say that every time she meets the Doctor she knows him more and he knows her less? So, in her timeline she might not have gotten to the point where she knows the Doctor "biblically". Then again, we're watching from the Doctor's point of view, so he's knowing her more and she's passed her knowing him peak, which means she may already have not yet had the child that she and the Doctor are going to have. There's also the "terrible thing" that she is going to have already did. Maybe that has something to do with the child? Finally, the space suits remind me loads of River Songs first/last appearance. Mr W Phallus
Well River is in prison for killing someone, right? I've always assumed it was the Doctor. The different time directions is so hard to get your head round, though. Also, Rory is living plastic, right? Can living plastic people have kids? Or maybe the fact he's not human and has lived for 1000+ facilitates Time Lord babies.
