speaking of youtube, I'm sometimes getting a 'no plug-in to play the file' type message - I think it's mostly when someone quotes a video, but wouldn't swear to that. Is this happening to anyone else or is it my computer? I'm using Chrome beta.

Yeah if someone sticks a video in spoiler tags or quotes it goes funky. Not sure why since it's the same video.

Oh so that's why it happens. I did wonder.

Also had a question about images. I mean I can see the images today on chrome but couldn't the other day on safari (on the mac) and it's only certain hotlinked images.

Yeah I did wonder but the view image as a new tab worked. I've got to try it out again.

P.S. Do you think we could have like more official threads for games where all the info about the game is pretty much up on the first page? Screenshots, gameplay videos and what not. I mean the newsfeed is good and all, but if we could have all the info about the game on the first post then it'd be easy to know what the game was about and then we could just discuss about the game and not info about the game? I can do it for some games that I'm interested in. I've got one for infamous 2 which I'll post closer to release :)

Well the image thing is maybe a browser by browser site by site kind of thing. It'd happen on a few images in old forum too. Once you open the image itself in a new tab it usually works fine. I have no explanation or fix for it other than open the "broken" image in a new tab.

As for the information thing that would technically be up to the OP. We dropped the edit limit a while back so the thread creator should be able to update it as they go on. We can't force them and yeah it would be useful I guess. It could make really large first posts over time though, and would mean the OP would kind of have to keep tabs on all the info in the game.

And surely its the info on the game that gets discussed, especially pre-release. Things like trailers, game mechanics they announce, release dates etc.

I was at this point going to suggest you maybe make a thread in future to give an example or adapt one you've already made. Then I went on your profile and see what you mean:

http://tay.gappoi.or...ron-game-thread

(first time I've read the thread, sorry it was something that didn't grab me by the name :P)

Certainly very informative, and where possible I think I'd encourage people to set-up OP's like that, but not always possible.

It's nothing we can really enforce, if you get me. But now I've seen what you mean I'd love to see more.

Anyway, people reading this thread; check that thread, read the OP, note the style and info included, maybe in future any game threads try n make them look a bit like that.

Yeah that's the thing about making the first post, so whoever made it or mods can keep editing it to give info about the game and/or key info so that you don't have to go through every discussion when you just want some quick info :).

I'm not saying don't discuss but if it's a good game the thread can go on forever if we keep at it and info can be lost and we're sometimes just looking for info.

lol that was just a test really, I'll try posting more for Infamous 2.

Mobile App/site is pretty much out of our control. Potentially we can tweak mobile site interface, buuuutttttt it's not like the regular layout so very tricky to tweak. Potentially break a bunch of stuff. Not even sure if chat would work with 3G signal.

Also the way chat works we don't have much to control on it either.

Of the two things on the forum most untweakable Chat n the mobile version are on the top of the list :P

As Dean mentioned, chat and the mobile site are the two things I've kind of resigned myself not to customize. The backend for the chat is actually on IPB's side, which severely limits my control over how it runs. The mobile site is also difficult, if not impossible, for me to edit because I do not own a smartphone and need someone to basically be "on call" whenever I try to troubleshoot anything (which is extremely frustrating).

The good news about the mobile interface is that we're actually using two different versions. I believe it was Hakidia who recommended an alternative in the past which I did end up installing. As for the normal IPB mobile interface, I've been meaning to contact IPB about it. I need people to describe specifically what is wrong with that interface, including screenshots, so that I can report it to IPB. I can't document it myself because again, I don't own a smartphone. No need for one in my day-to-day affairs and I don't want to purchase one just for the sake of forum customization. :P

I have an iPhone and quite often look at the board via it but I've not noticed anything in particular wrong with it. Is there anything I should be actively looking for? I'd quite happily go to where these supposed problems lie and screenshot them for you if it would help.

Right I'm going to be looking into adding some more default avatars. At the moment I've added..personable avatars. People n characters. Such as the Owlman I currently have.

What I'll be looking into for the next batch is just some game related logos, character snippets etc. I might see about grabbing PSN/XBL avatars too, or getting something similar.

Any suggestions? More pixel guys? (I can't do pixel art myself so it'll be a case of hunting things down)

Also wondering if anyone else has any they can offer up. Prefrably something gamey/nerdey.

Avatars are a max of 150*150 and we can use jpg, gif n PNG. Personally I'm a fan of Gif/PNG. If you have Photoshop then use the "save for web & devices" in the 4up layout n check which format gets best quality:size ratio.

Once you've got some just PM them my way in either a zip (if you have a bunch) or on their own and I'll add em up.

Also some things might become shop items, which I'll look to expand.

Wait, you can edit without having the "edited on..." message? I hate that message. I constantly edit my posts for typos and such. Stupid mod with your stupid mod privileges!

There needs to be a 60 second limit or something after your post where you can edit without the edit message popping up. Or if someone posts during that time.

Yeah there was folks abusing the ability to edit to change what was said, so made it so there's the "edited by" on the bottom. Also in the early days there was no editing function at all. The "Edited by" was a minor tweak made, with the alternative being removing editing altogether. It's not exactly a hardship to keep around for the niceness it instills.

Well, considering the mass exodus there was back then, and the current regulars, I doubt it would be as much of an issue anymore. I'm curious, though. Back then, were you able to see whether people had edited their posts? I always figured it must've been visible to admins and such regardless.
