TheMightyEthan
Any online achievement that is less straightforward than something like "play 10 matches" or "get 100 kills in ranked playlists" is bad in my book.
SixTwoSixFour
Super Street Fighter IV- From C to Shining C. Get to C Rank with all characters. I have played for 140 hours, nearly all of that online, ranked matches only, and as soon as I get a character to C, I move on to the next. I do not linger, and I do not play characters that I am already C with. I have only C Ranked 19 out of 35 characters.
HotChops
I want to get the Et Tu, Brute? achievement in Bad Company 2. I think you get it for knifing 5 of your online friends (as opposed to just knifing five teammates in hardcore mode.) I figure the best way for me to get them is to switch my status to "offline," then sneak into one of my friend's matches and hope to get on the other team. Then wait for them in a particular spot and stab 'em! But to manage that five times against five of my friends? I don't know if I'll ever pull that off. HotChops
Could you get on a team with your friends and teamkill them? I don't know, that might work too. I think I'll just stay the hell away from this one. I've established an outspoken reputation against achievement hounding, even though I clearly said that I go after some achievements. But this would lead to nothing but trouble. Once I started stabbing one of my friends, they'd demand to know why. I either inform them of the achievement and they all go for it too, thus dooming our clan to backstabbery.... or I just laugh and they all assume I'm a douche. edit: maybe I could host a private match for just us, and we could have one big knife fight until we all had it.... but that violates the whole spirit of the achievement imo. TheMightyEthan
While generally I'm opposed to boosting like that, for stupid achievements it's the only way to go. For instance, there was some hockey game that had an achievement for quitting early in 10 online matches. The only okay way to do that would be to boost it. So I'd say get the private match going and all stab each other.
Mister Jack
The Halo 3 multi achievements were the WORST. They practically ruined the online game.

SixTwoSixFour
I hear that FFXIII achievement with the maxing out the crystarium is a bitch. ANYTHING to do with FFXII is a bitch. I tried so hard to like that game, and it bored the SHIT out of me. Though I suppose that's a whole 'nother discussion.
Toshi
It's ok, I feel that way about Mass Effect, but I get a lot of shit from that already. I would think Ninja Gaiden achievements would suck.

First, you can knife the same friends 5 times and get the achievement. You can't do it in a private match (I don't believe you can do any of the BC2 achievements, and most online achievements, that way). And second, you need to be on opposite teams. BUT, if you join a friend's game and get put on their side, there's a trick you can do to switch sides. Make sure the other team has empty slots, then remember one of the gamertags on that team. Go to the Guide > Friends > Recent Players, find that person, and choose 'Join Session in Progress' from their profile, Voila, you're on the other team. Mister Jack
Frankly, I think any achievement where boosting is a more viable option than trying to get it legit is stupid.

RadiantViper
Frankly, I think any achievement where boosting is a more viable option than trying to get it legit is stupid. Well, games which have dead online make all their online achievements like that. Yeah, I know they're trying to generate interest for the online component ... but did they honestly think people would be playing Fracture more than a month after it came out? I am Bad Company! is one of the biggest examples of 'no way you can get it legit'. One of the 120 (!) awards you need is to get 50 boat 'road' kills (which usually means running someone over who's swimming). Those NEVER EVER EVER happen except for the rarest of circumstances. It should've been 1 kill if anything, definitely not 50 ...

RadiantViper
It's too late for me, I've been hopelessly addicted for a long time already I mostly care about completion percentage but some online achievements I don't even bother with (GTA4, Overlord). Still, while some achievements are pretty shitty, as an overall system I love them. They've probably doubled the value I get out of games now. If a dev actually tries and makes a fun list, it definitely compliments the game instead of detracting from it. TheMightyEthan
I don't bother with online achievements at all unless it's really straightforward like "play 10 matches" or I can boost it fairly easily. In fact, games having online achievements can make me decide not to get a game (if I'm only a little interested) or change which platform I get it for (for some reason I don't care nearly as much about PS3 trophies as 360 achievements, and I don't care at all about Steam achievements). Mister Jack
Steam achievements would be a little more fun to me if they went into one cohesive page where you can see and compare everything like with XBL and PSN. I like seeing my cumulative gamerscore or trophy level from all those games I've played since I bought the console (or since the PS3 started doing trophies anyway). Keeping all the games separate from each other just kinda seems to defeat the point to me.
MetalCaveman
Ridiculous due to time they take? Any that require you to kill a huge number of enemies, specially if they also require an insane number of playthroughs of the campaign. I'm proud of all the trophies I have in Demon's Souls Also, achievements that require you to play through a game using only one weapon or something similar. TheMightyEthan
Also, achievements that require you to play through a game using only one weapon or something similar. For the most part I agree with this, though I didn't mind the one in Dead Space for playing the whole game with only the plasma cutter. That was actually one of my favorite weapons anyway. Baconrath
The "Don't Touch The Sand!" achievement in HL2; if you touch the sand just ONCE you fail it, even if you don't spawn any Antlions. Bah that stupid physics teeter-totter part drove me nuts. A pox on your mailman, teeter-totter! I eventually got it, though :3 As for only using the grav gun in Ravenholm...ugh. Mister Jack
Valve has this nasty habit of making their achievements harder than Chinese calculus. Look no further than the earlier days of TF2.
RadiantViper
As for only using the grav gun in Ravenholm...ugh. I loved that one too. First time through Ravenholm I tried using guns, and I kept running out of ammo and getting slaughtered. But there's a sort of easter egg like trick where you can take the deactivate mine that you use to play catch with Dog, into Ravenholm. It's damn powerful as a grav gun 'weapon', and it even rolls back to you if you drop it! Unfortunately, you can't take it into the final area, but still. Made it a lot easier. Commander Shepard
To cover my WoW basis, the achievement "What a Long Strange Trip It's Been" essentially requires you to be subscribed for an entire year and play the game during holidays during the year. Play World of Warcraft for an entire year... and then try to stop...ugh, there should really be an achievement for staying unsubscribed for a year.
