Something on the forum main page, I assume the ads, is using a ridiculous amount of system resources.  Just closing the tab freed up 800MB of RAM and reduced my laptop's CPU usage from 37% to 25%.

I know the ads help support the site and I'm not suggesting they be removed, but I wondered if there's something that can be done to possibly reduce their impact?

*Edit - Just to make it extra clear, the problem appears to be limited to the main page, no other pages have that issue.

If you load the main page with ad block enabled, is the resource usage reasonable? It may be the status updates that are a doing it? I'm always suspicious of those as they take longer to load than the rest of the page.

Things seems normal on my end. Anywhere on PXOD on a single tab is registering about 450-460 MB of RAM with Firefox. That's about the baseline of RAM usage for Firefox for me.

I will note that sometimes I will get video ads which I haven't gotten with this quick check. I never complained about them since they load up muted. The only indication that I get that they are there is when my tabs shows me that there's sound coming from them. Maybe RAM usage will be way different if they show up.

After playing around a little, it seems like it's more of a memory leak type issue.  Just going to the main page doesn't use an inordinate amount of resources, but if I leave a tab sitting there it starts using progressively more and more over time.  Leaving it sitting on any other page doesn't though.

It hasn't worked for me for over a year(?) well before Dean first mooted the upgrade to next major version. There is new content - all the threads with new posts are highlighted with icons to the left of their titles, it's just that when you press the new content button it doesn't present them in a list just says there is no new content.

Not settings, the highlighting of forums with new content (like the PS Games here), and when you click through, the individual topics with new posts are also highlighted so there is definitely new content, but when you click on the new content button top right it always says no new content even if there definitely is.

Oh yeah, had a chance to sort this out this morning. The support response I got was "you installed it wrong" which was super duper helpful (it's like a two step process, so there's not really much wiggle room for shit to go wrong tbh). Anywho now seems to work after once again deleting it all, and re-installing.

Now when looking at status updates clicking "Show previous comments" brings up an "Are you sure?" box, and when you click OK the link to show previous comments goes away but the previous comments are not shown.

I know you've got a lot on your plate, and this will be low priority, but just wanted to get it on your list.
