Battra92
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203418804576040103609214400.html?mod=rss_opinion_main This was in today's WSJ and thought I'd pass it along. What's your take on this? Do you agree?
Yantelope
The article says that Kinect sold 5 million already. Is there confirmation on that?
Gyaruson
VGChartz says that Kinect Adventures has sold over 5.4 million copies, and the only way to buy that game new is with the system. So, I would guess it's pretty accurate. http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales/45608/kinect-adventures/
Yantelope
Interesting. So the real numbers should begin now that the christmas rush is over right?
Gyaruson
That's typically the case, although I doubt you'll see a decline in sales until February at the earliest. A lot of people are still snatching them up due to the shortage around Christmas. I know of four families that have picked one up just by playing at my house. It's nuts. I'm trying to look up Move sales, but am coming up empty. Unfortunately a game isn't sold with every Move hardware, so it's damn hard to track. SixTwoSixFour
It's an interesting article, but I think the author overstates our influence, to the degree of it being a little silly. I think gaming is influencing mainstream technology, of course. I don't think that means that EVERYTHING in gaming will become part of mainstream technology- he mentions how WoW raids are going to be a model for how CEOs do meetings. Yeah, no. That's just not gonna happen. In short, I think this guy's on to something, but he got a little too excited and started making shit up.

Rather than WoW, I think Kinect's video chat will be a big influence. Most companies already use Cisco technology, but I think the ability to track and follow people with the camera could be the next mainstream innovation. Remember Demolition Man when the monitors followed Dr. Cocteau?
deanb
Yeah dudes way of base. The Military has been usurped, but it's not the VG industry. And it's certainly not kinect. The movers n shakers are in your pocket. Smartphone market, which even the military are investing heavily in.
