RockyRan
Did you find him going through chain link fences a lot? I've had that happen a few times in both games. Pretty glitchy for a Sony owned exclusive. I don't think that's a glitch, just something Sucker Punch overlooked for some reason or another. Strangelove
I didn't encounter one single glitch in inFamous 2. Also, Ezio plays like a 60 year old man(before he became a 60 year old man in Revelations) compared to Cole when it comes to climbing, running, and just navigation in general. Cole moves a lot better, faster, and more precise. Its almost effortless.
Thursday Next
Cole plays like Ezio compared to Mercer. Love the inFamous franchise (in fact I prefer it to Prototype), but if you're going for effortlessness of traversal, you can't top Mercer. Strangelove
I thought Prototype was cheap and wonky. Its faster, but I wouldnt say its smoother or more precise....or quite as nice-looking. Might as well throw Just Cause 2 in here. Im talking specifically about parkour/climbing type stuff, not running up fucking walls and doing super jumps. Thursday Next
But zipping up powerlines is ok? Also Cole totally has a super jump. I agree that Prototype cheapens the feeling of traversal. You just pretty much run in a straight line to your destination going over anything in your path. It makes your character feel omnipotent, which is cool, but the payoff is that it makes the city feel flat. Of the three I've tried, Assassin's Creed I like for the feeling in the back of my mind that I could do (most of) what he does if I got off my arse and got training. inFamous has a great balance of being superior while grounded in some measure of reality. Prototype is just batshit craziness. I tend to prefer Assassin's Creed, but inFamous is a close second. Prototype takes the fun out of traversal my making it too simple. Strangelove
Well, it uses the Hulk UD engine, so that's why its so easy. Same thing with Venom in Ultimate Spiderman. You could jump like 100 stories with that guy. As for Infamous 2, In its defense, you get the Lightning Hook at the very end of the game and zipping powerlines might be fast, built doesnt matter much when the world is so freakin huge. I consider powerlines Infamous 2's way of fast travel. I just enjoyed inFamous 2's way because it was more involved. Im glad there was no flying in it unless you got that powerup that turned you into a phoenix or whatever, but even then it drained your power like crazy and didnt last at all. Gliding was fun and if you wanted to do a super jump you needed to find a car to jump off of or that ice power. It made you more limited, but it also made you interact with the world a lot more than breezing through it. To be honest, Assassin's Creed is also fun for the same reasons. Theres a few upgrades that will make you faster, but getting around in those cities was also still part of the gameplay, it was most of the gameplay if anything. AC has a sense of accomplishment when you get to some really high places. Edited May 29, 2012 by Strangelove
Faiblesse Des Sens
Why are we even having this discussion? The best free running is still Mirror's Edge. Until someone does that in an open world environment there's nothing to talk about.
deanb
Mirrors Edge still has it's issues. And unlike the currently mentioned game is also strictly linear so you're not really going to have the same experience anyway. Good, but I wouldn't say it's comparable to InFamous/Prototype/Assassin's Creed at all when talking about travelling about the game world. Faiblesse Des Sens
You think that's an issue? I think the issue is Assassin's Creed's easy button. Hold A and run forward and TRAVERSE EVERY FUCKING THING IN THE WORLD! At least in Infamous you get powers that help you get around. Anyways, I did mention that ME wasn't open world. It's still a parkour style game like the others. Edited May 29, 2012 by Faiblesse Des Sens
TCP
Mirror's Edge is a poor comparison. Also, Ezio got upgradable climbing in AC2. He also got new tools in various games to help his free running (hook blade, it's a hook AND a blade. Elegant.)
Faiblesse Des Sens
All I remember about Ezio's climbing changing was the move that let you go vertically while hanging a bit higher than normal. Besides the hookblade obvi. That's nothing compared to Cole's changes which included floating, that ability that pulled you closer to things, and other crap like that. Either way, you had to utilize a broader range of abilities to get around in Infamous. In AC you rode a horse and climbed. Oh and I guess you got those glider things but that wasn't something that was around frequently.
Strangelove
That glider was so annoying to control. So was the horse. Im glad they didn't make it into Revelations. People who bitch about RDR's controls have not played AC2's horse sections. Ugh.

I don't think it's really comparable because in Mirror's Edge the main point of the gameplay is figuring out how to most quickly and efficiently traverse the environment, whereas in Assassin's Creed the core of the game is about infiltration/assassination and the traversal is just part of allowing that. Hot Heart
Each game's own method of traversal works well for its respective setting and context. /thread /realises thread isn't about that /allows thread to resume
TheMightyEthan
I think the issue with walking is most game's easy button. You just hold forward on the control stick. I think all games should require you to manually tense and release each of the character's muscles to walk, like that one flash game. deanb
I think his initial speech was a bit weird and unrelated. Trailer looked fine though, and bit more InFamous is always welcome. Be interesting to see how it ties into the overall universe, if at all, given the ending of InFamous 2. Strangelove
I cant really understand why they just didnt make an inFamous 3....weird.
TheMightyEthan
Probably because it's not about Cole so they didn't want to make it a main numbered title.
deanb
General rule of thumb is you don't release numbered sequels on a new console launch (it's not Killzone 4 either). Unless you mean a direct sequel, in which case mostly because InFamous 2 had a rather final finale.
Strangelove
I dont think we saw the same ending, Dean.
deanb
Well there's two so it's likely. Either all the supers (conduits) are dead, in which case you're going to have a pretty boring game. Or the non-powered folks are dead and you're left with very few folks and "evil" Cole as canon.
Mister Jack
Neither ending left much room for a sequel so I'm not sure how they can do this and have it make any sense. Oh well, I'll still play it.
Strangelove
The good ending leave's Cole's death vague. Lightning strikes at the very end. Basically signifying he's alive.
Thursday Next
My interpretation was "Bad" Ending - Supers go on a quest to find and recruit all the other Supers."Good" Ending - Supers are extinct.Given this is 7 years on I assumed we've gone with the "Bad" ending and in those 7 years somehow the government has cured or created an immunity to the plague and gotten the upper hand over the Supers, or they've managed to hole up somewhere away from the Supers, or there is some sort of cold war theme where Supers and Normals have segregated and Son of Cole is in a Normal town for whatever reason. If we go with Bad ending, then it gives an explanation for Supers being around, and for the segregation of normals (to control the plague), it gives the story writers some "daddy issues" to play with, and it leaves the way open for a Star Wars style, "Do I join my evil father and rule or do I rebel and be a good guy?" choice, with possible Cole redemption. To be honest though, they could work it so that you can pick whether Cole was good or bad, and just throw in another ray-sphere activation to bring back Supers.
