docsfox
I hate Games for Windows Live so much. FECK it just breaks games more than anything!
Yantelope
I like it but I'm a cheever. I've never had it break anything or cause poor performance. I'd say my only major issue with it is how it gives developers fits on how to integrate their patches and such. It took months for Red Faction Guerrilla to be patched and by then everyone had quit playing it.
deanb
Yeah I pretty much hate it too. I hate it mostly because it has so much fucking potential, but MS are afraid it might end up too good n eclipse 360. Which is like WHAT? Might end up 'too successful'? Anyway I wrote more on the subject here http://pressxordie.com/2010/12/05/games-for-windows-a-work-in-progress/
docsfox
I'm raging because I loaded up Batman: Arkham Asylum for the first time and I had to update, close the game, update, close the game, update, close the game. Took me 20 minutes to get past the stupid log in screen. I've heard of issues with DLC in the past from other people as well and I hate that I have to save my game on their server and I can't access that save unless I'm logged in................................... deanb
Oh god the save thing fucking pissed me off. WTF is up with that? If it was cloud saves like what Steam has I'd somewhat understand, but it's saves stored on your PC that GFW locks you out of unless you can connect up. Yantelope
The problem is that Steam already created windows live for the PC. I don't see MS cutting into steams user base anytime soon.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, a while ago GFWL had all those daily $1 sales to try and drum up business... I think all they accomplished was selling a bunch of games at $1 to Steam users, who then went back to Steam when the sales stopped. Although I guess they got me to start checking their weekly deals, which I still do, so there's that.

Pirandello
It won't come as any surprise to me if they half-ass it. Again. Still, my comment stands. They want to seriously get back into PC gaming? Give us the rest of the damn Halo series on PC. God knows I'd kill to play Halo: Reach on my gaming computer. Harri
don't worry, Windows 8 is rumored to play xbox360 games. I will be a very happy asian if that happens.
excel_excel
don't worry, Windows 8 is rumored to play xbox360 games. I will be a very happy asian if that happens. I just don't see this happening. How does MS benefit from that? Not to mention controls and all that stuff. Maybe they'll release 'special' games that can be played on both PC and 360, but I don't see how MS are going to benefit themselves by doing that
deanb
don't worry, Windows 8 is rumored to play xbox360 games. I will be a very happy asian if that happens. RUMOURED. By some very retarded blogs. It isn't. You can use your XBL ID to sign into Windows 8. Sorry but you're going to remain a sad asian. Just on a technical level an X86 or ARM processor is not going to be able to run a PowerPC game. Certainly not in any playable fashion. Maybe Windows 18 could support Xbox 360 games, but I doubt that'll be through MS.

The whole reason why MS went into the console business in the first place was to create a walled garden so it can charge royalties and overprice goods for everything. They've spent all these years shitting on the PC trying to get PC gamers to buy an Xbox, this rumored feature would undo all their work. Johnny
I've said it before, but I'll pretty much not play a game if it has GFWL anymore. It's just causing way too many issues.
TheMightyEthan
I guess I'm one of the lucky few who's never had an issue with it.
Yantelope V2
I guess I'm one of the lucky few who's never had an issue with it. I have specifically had the neftlix thing happen as posted above although usually netflix will finish whatever show you're watching you just have to sign back in before you can start a new show. It doesn't kick you off immediately.
TheMightyEthan
Do you mean Netflix on XBL? Or does Netflix on PC use GFWL somehow?
Yantelope V2
Well, you only have one gold account and Netflix requires your gold account. When you start any GFWL game you have to log in, no offline mode, and so it logs you out of your xbox. So my wife will yell downstairs "Why did you log me out?". Then she can log back into the account up there and the GFWL game will go into offline. It's kind of a pain but not a huge inconvenience. Luftwaffles
I was going to say, I haven't really had any issues with it as far as usability goes. I'd rather have games just use my Steamworks friends list. My biggest issues with GFWL is when it's used on top of other forms of DRM like Securom. I think it was GTAIV that uses GFWL, Rockstar Social Club, Steamworks, and Securom. That's when I really have issues with it.
Johnny
I've had everything from patches refusing to download, to the game kicking me out mid-session, to save games disappearing, and everything in between. The only times I've had it work without hitches is in pirated versions circumventing part or all of GFWL, amusingly enough.
Yantelope V2
Maybe GFWL is smarter than you think and it's punishing you for being a pirate!
Luftwaffles
Maybe GFWL is smarter than you think and it's punishing you for being a pirate! I bet it scans your computer and looks for pirated games, then decides how badly it wants to fuck up. I actually haven't ever bought a game with GFWL at launch, so maybe that's why I haven't had patching issues. By the time I've gotten all of mine they've pretty much stopped patching them.
