Saints Row: The Third

And holy shit it's good. The missions at the beginning are pretty underwhelming, but then it really picks up at the end, and some of the unlocks and upgrades turn it into pretty much Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas with all of the non-gamebreaking cheats turned on. I'd rather not spoil some of the missions, as they really are fantastic, making you go "They're not going to do that, are they!?", but then they do, with zombies and VTOL jets and Burt Reynolds. Dialog can be a bit cheesy at times, and I'm tired of the trend where NPCs yell something like "Good job" whenever you kill someone, but all in all it's not to be missed. It's really fantastic if you like open world games.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

I have to say, while Ghirahim was a punk the first two times, he was a breeze in the final encounter. More discussion in the proper thread, but I would have to say the only thing I didn't do was go after the Hylian Shield. Serious, you get the opportunity to obtain it nearly at the end. I got the Piece of Heart, but didn't want to bother with eight bosses again.

Puzzle Agent.

For a Professor Layton rip-off, it's surprisingly underwhelming.

I would have to agree with you on that.I have been playing that game on and off for a while and it just can't catch my interest.

Just beat Alice: Madness Returns and while the platforming is nothing to write home about, it is still a very beautiful game.

Vanquish. For real this time.

Fairly short (took me a little over 5 hours), but holy shit, what an amazing game. One of the best games I've played this year, actually. And it came out last year.

I waited for a price drop because I knew it was short, but now that I've played it, I would've been fine with paying more than the 20 bucks it cost me.

I had heard the game was hard, but I found it more challenging than hard, if that makes any sense. I'll definitely be replaying this one on hard soon.

Not right away, though. Got a few other games to play first.

Sonic Generations.

Overall, it is a pretty enjoyable game. It definitely has some frustrating lows, but the fantastic highs outweigh those. It's just a shame it has terrible framerate drops on my PC, regardless of graphics settings. Chemical Plant Zone is almost unplayable and Crisis City has some really bad design worsened by these (which also occur at critical moments on a few other levels). Gameplay-wise, it definitely takes some getting used to, particularly how modern Sonic controls (for someone new to 3D Sonic, like me, anyway), but is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. The bonus challenges are a great way to practise with some of the mechanics (except for the odd crap ones) as well as introducing some new elements, and I've found myself pushing for S ratings on all the levels now.

Hmm, seems I forgot to post about it, but I beat the Metal Gear Solid series (as in 1 through 4) a couple of weeks ago. I'd already played all of them, but MGS 2 and 3 were the new HD versions and it was the first time I played all four in a row. Still working on Peace Walker, though. Haven't really touched the PS3 since the Steam sale began.

And while on the subject, I've already finished one of my new purchases: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine.

Pretty sure it's the first time I actually finish a game bought during a Steam sale before the sale ends.

I don't play tabletop miniature games but I absolutely love the 40K universe, so I enjoyed this one quite a bit. It gets kind of repetitive before long, the combat system is rather shallow and the game can be a bit frustrating at times but I still had a blast playing it. That being said, I think there is a lot of room for improvement. I would love to see them improve and expand on the formula in a sequel and maybe come up with a story that includes more of the lore rather than just limiting itself to the humans, orks and chaos.

I actually got a cool idea from reddit about this. I'll keep a list of the games I complete in 2012, in a .txt file or something. Should be interesting to see how much it grows and how fast.

I'd be curious to know how many I completed in 2011, but I really don't feel like going back through every single page of this thread...

The guy who thought of it found that it quickly became a strong motivator to complete more games as he found himself wanting to keep adding to the list. Should at the very least be a fun little experiment.
