I have completed Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. I beat both the main story mode and also the Reverse/Rebirth new game plus mode. I like the game quite a bit, it's difficult for me to go back to 3D Kingdom Hearts combat in 358/2 days now because it seems so much sloppier to me.

That said, 358/2 days combat is leagues better than Kingdom Hearts 1 combat. And I can only hope that Kingdom Hearts 2 combat will improve things even further!

W was the actual game? I've been hearing bad things about it.

It was Assassin's Creed. If you've played 2 or Brotherhood, then it's more of that. I enjoyed it.

I will say there was a lot less side stuff to do in this one, like there wasn't a series of thieves' guild missions or anything. It made it seem like there wasn't really a whole lot to do besides just continue through the story. Though I will say I spent an inordinate amount of time recruiting assassins and sending them out on missions around the Mediterranean. There were only 5 of those lair/crypt things, 4 if you don't count my Gamestop bonus one, and that made me sad because I really enjoy those.

And their added stuff just didn't need to be there. I only used bombs like 2 or 3 times after the bomb tutorial, and the only time I played the tower defense stuff was in the tutorial because it's so easy to prevent the Templars from ever attacking your dens in the first place.

Basically it's fun, and it plays like you would expect Assassin's Creed to, but it definitely suffered from the yearly dev cycle.

Agreed with pretty much all of this. Except for the bombs. They might not have felt necessary, but some of them were pretty damn useful. Mostly the smoke and shrapnel types.

Yeah, the bombs were cool. I think the reason I didn't use them though was because the rest of the gameplay was unchanged from the previous two, so basically I fell into the old flow which just didn't include bombs. It's like they just glued bombs onto the side of the gameplay loop, rather than integrating them into it.

lol, now I feel like I'm coming across more critically than I meant to. I enjoyed AC:R a lot (but of course I'm an Assassin's Creed freak). I recommend it to anyone who likes Assassin's Creed and wants to play more of it. And the gameplay loop wasn't hurt by any of the added things, you can just ignore them if you want to and it plays just like the older ones. And they made the assassin training mission system deeper, and I spent a few hours just running around managing that, and could have spent much longer. And the upgrade-the-city mechanic is basically the same as in Brotherhood.

Though I would say that if all the side quests are important to you then you might not like this one as much, because there are like 3 side quests in the whole game (not counting collectibles).

Ultimately, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Assassin's Creed, though if the side quests are important to you (or if you're not just absolutely in love the the series like I am) I'd wait for a price drop. But don't skip it altogether (unless you're just not interested in the series, in which case go ahead and skip it).

Well, I'm not really basing that off everything you've said. I've been reading bits about it from all over.

As you may be aware, I was pretty underwhelmed by a lot of Brotherhood, and Revelations doesn't sound like it improves on any of that. The only thing that would keep me interested is some significant story developments but it doesn't even sound like it has that going for it. It's not even the cost that bothers me, I just don't think I'd have the patience for it. :P

And it doesn't help that Arkham City does almost everything they share in common much better.

I feel very much the same way. I wouldn't hesistate to recommend it to a fan of the series. It's a great game very much worth playing.

That being said, the problems with a yearly dev cycle are really more apparent in this one, so criticism is inevitable.

The way I see it, this was the last game like this I was willing to play. If ACIII is another one like this (as in the same goddamned thing with only superficial improvements), then I certainly won't be getting it at launch/full price.

Ah, yeah. It makes a minor step forward in the story, but you could easily read about that online to catch up for AC3.

@FLD: I said this before somewhere else, but I'm p sure I remember reading that AC3 has been being worked on by a separate team since the release of AC2, and that ACB and ACR were done by a side-team. If that's accurate (I can't for the life of me remember where that info came from) then it makes it seem likely that AC3 will be a bigger departure from the form of the previous games.

*Edit* - Man, I went back to reread my previous post, and "and" sure seems to be my favorite word.

I need to work on my sentence structure.

I have completed Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.

The Game Boy Advance one?

Yes, the Game Boy Advance one. GBA backlog FTW! I'd owned that since I got it as a random gift six or seven years ago :)

Maybe now I'll even get back to Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga! Or FINALLY beat Golden Sun 2! (I've tried like a million times, I swear)

Ah, that was the first GBA game I bought. I didn't really like it, though the card combat was pretty cool. I wasn't a big fan of the "level design" the way it generated those maps though.

@P4 - yeah, I figured out pretty early that you need to approach it with a dungeon crawler mentality. The "level design" such as it exists isn't about exploration at all. It's all in service of the combat and leveling up and RPG parts of the game. I think that it's a pretty interesting take on level generation for dungeon crawling, but that needs to be what you're looking for. Dungeon Crawling is an itch I only need to scratch once or twice a year, so I guess this just came at a fortunate time for me.

I beat Skyward Sword a few days ago. Really enjoyed it! A few complaints here and there, but more of personal choices. I doubt I can, but I'm gonna try to squeeze in another game before the year ends. Who else is trying to beat a game before 2012 rolls in?

Still plenty of time for that. I'm actually planning on finishing more than just one before christmas.

I'm currently working on the MGS HD Collection, but decided to make it more interesting and am going through the whole MGS series instead.

Just started 3, next is 4 and I'll end things with Peace Walker, the only one I haven't played before.

I'm also planning on finishing Shadow of the Colossus. Grabbed the HD Collection last month but only managed to finish Ico.

I *MIGHT* try and get back into Dark Souls. But that's probably not going to happen for a while.
