Games You've Beat in 2011

I finally finished Spirit Tracks which I got when it was new. From that you may think I didn't like it but I actually really did.

The only complaint was the stupid portals on the train tracks so you couldn't choose where you wanted to warp.

Nier.

This game blew....

my mind.

It was awesome..

Seriously.

Ok, that's the last straw. I've been debating that game for a while. Reviewers were generally not crazy about it, but the more I hear from people on the internet who have played it, the better it sounds.

I just finished Professor Layton and the Lost Future. The ending was pretty dumb...

Giant mobile fortress?! A cavern the size of London under London? The fact that Clive must have actually killed hundreds/thousands of people in the real London seems to be glossed over by saying the people from 'future london' escaped. The prime minister also doesn't get any comeuppance when he caused people to die at the poly-dimensional research institute explosion. Also, from the other games no matter how otherworldly the plot sounded it always ended with a 'real-world' explanation. This one actually had time travel in it.

... but overall I think it was my favourite of the series.

Crysis 2. Looking forward to Multiplayer this week.

Was it good?

Also, I just finished AC:B. I think it was mostly a waste of time and didn't really further the story much. I still really like AC but this game was more of a cash in than an addition to the series.

I'm starting in on Alpha Protocol now. So far I like it.

Yip. A lot of games say "You can run and gun or you can sneak about." But this is one of the few games where I felt that was true. Stealth or Armour lead you down two very different ways to play, and the TAC Map highlights them for you.

The AI is D-U-M-B. Or rather, the path-finding sucks. Never seen so many troops bumping in to each other.

The game uses verticality really well. As long as there has been a jump button in FPS's people have been trying to get on top of stuff. Crysis does it very well, the clambering is cool, makes you feel like a big ol' gorilla.

I love that you can customise your weapons and fine-tune your suit on the fly. It makes the entire game feel more "tactical" and less "Here's a silenced rifle, this is the part of the game where you can be sneaky. Here is a shotgun, this is the run'n'gun section."

I never played Crysis or Warhead, but the game does a decent job of filling in some of the backstory, though I imagine it is much more rewarding for knowing all the details.

Multiplayer is great fun. I rarely feel like my deaths were cheap, often I'll die because I went from stealth mode, started shooting and forgot to activate armour mode, making my aim shoddy and my body squishy (and dead). That you have to actually go and collect dogtags (by walking over your vanquished enemy) means snipers (who have a massive advantage by virtue of the Stealth mode) are not able to dominate with killstreak rewards. Unfortunately there is an upgrade that automatically collects dogtags, so eventually that will change.

I really disliked the dogtag system and I'm not even a sniper.

The customizing of weapons is actually more limited than the first. In the first you'd pick up a silenced scope SCAR and next thing you know you're also holding a silenced scoped shotgun. In this C2 the attachments aren't so universal. (also they changed the fucking customize button for no reason what so ever. It sent from C for Customize to X for Xtremely stupid) In C1 X swapped between weapon modes, which I can't even remember if C2 had that (swapped between single fire, auto, and unlimited and very silent tranquillizers)

Also lots of the same guns lying about. In the first you only had your original SCAR for so long before you ran out of bullets. The Koreans for some reason didn't keep stocks of ammunition for enemy weapons, so eventually you rely on their guns. They were still good mind, not like the game dumped you with ak-47s like most games do.

I am curious as to what back story it gives since the only reference to the first game up to now has been

Prophet right at the start, and he blows his brains out meaning that all ties are cut with him

Also I've not beaten it, but I'm further than I was in my original run through of Witcher :P (just to get on topic)

Customization of guns isn't really limited by platform :P It's just most console games haven't bothered with it.

So yes playing it as your first Crysis game, it's got quite a bit. But in regards to series as a whole, bit limiting. Kinda makes you less [thingy] when elements are worse in the sequel.

CELL don't just have the same weapons, Up until the part I got to, the game only has their weapons. You start with an empty pistol. Makes you feel a tad less special.

Finished the story of Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice earlier tonight.

But while I technically "beat" it, I'm nowhere near done with it. I still have a ton of post-game content to unlock and literally thousands of levels to grind.

Plus, playing the story itself unlocked zero trophies, so I have quite a few left to earn.

Well I've beat it lots of times before, but I finally completed Mass Effect (the first one). I have now finished all playthroughs I want for import into Mass Effect 2/3. I have one playthrough of Mass Effect 2 left before I've completed that game too.

Hehe. One can't really blame lack of customization on consolification. Not when it comes to shooters.

I think the only franchise that ever did it in the first place before the console fps explosion was Battlefield. And as I remember, that wasn't very robust.

Let's see...games I sorta finished this year:

Crysis Warhead

Bad Company 2 single player

BioShock 1

ModNation Racers career mode

Henry Hatsworth: Puzzling Adventure

I have to say, I'm not being nearly as productive this year as I was last year <_< (beat like 24 games then)

I played the full version of Tools a bit and didn't like it that much. I loved the demo of Crack in Time but never got the chance to play the whole thing. Glad to hear that I was right with just my limited playthough of both (i've played every single other console ratchet I'm pretty sure, tools just felt so meh in comparison to the PS2 titles.)
