They wanted that to improve rendering time for their, I think, 8K (yes, 8K) content. They got to be able to render it and preview it quickly otherwise shit can't get done in a reasonable time frame. In the end though, I think Linus said it wasn't worth it even to them. It's like $35k to outfit the office with them for such a marginal (and spotty) improvement. I think it's their workflow not being up to stuff since this seems to be a co-processor card that big studios uses.

Caveat: I've no experience working with 4K n up footage

I'm pretty sure what you're meant to do when editing high-res footage anyway is encode it to a smaller size (in this case likely 1080p), edit it that way, then put the 8K footage in its place and render that out. That way previewing and scrubbing is much faster, and you can export an initial draft of the finished thing easier. That was part of my job on the short film, converting the 2K footage down to 1080p to be played back on an iPad for the director and producer.

Man that's a beast of a case. Though I doubt I'd ever use it to its full potential given I don't need 112TB of storage. It is kind of interesting to compare the set-up they have for dealing with slow-mo footage with that of LinusTechTips and wanting to have 8K footage. This seems much more traditional beyond the cinestation (which is the big reason for his wanting to upgrade and set up 10Gbit connection).

https://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/bfgd-big-format-gaming-display?ncid=so-twi-bd-30009

65" 4K, 120hz, G-sync display. Like why in God's holy earth would I want a 65" display right in my face? Like I would understand if they market it as a living room display (be really weird) but they have it on a desktop environment.

Otherwise, it is a neat piece of tech to show what they can do. Now all they need to do is shrink it like a 27" display.

A lot of gamers are looking at this as a TV replacement which is what make sense. Not sure why in Nvidia's video it is shown in a desktop setup. Anyhow, this should make PC couch gaming actually feels great. Something like this is what I imagine myself having along with a closet PC connected up to a desktop setup and a monitor/TV like this via super lower latency wires.

But yeah, this thing will be probably at least $5k.

Not everyone watches TV in the lounge and not everyone has their PC in a dedicated office or what not. I'd guess it's pretty good for that overlap of people that still want a TV for the times of watching films or at-a-distance gaming, but still want PC monitor like specs in refresh rates, g-sync etc that your TV usually doesn't come with.

Cost wise somewhat throws out much of a "why not just get a dedicated of each" though.

When I first saw this on my feed I thought it'd be like as in RGB computer fans as a bit of a gimmick, not like those "air writing" LED things but, as Linus puts it, on steroids. It seems pretty cool, and given that a fan can also rotate on its stand too you could in theory see it making "3-D" images too, beyond just a 3-D effect.

Shame it's $3000 a pop, but for what it is it's not hugely surprising. It wouldn't be intended for private use.

That's certainly interesting. One of those things I could see going either way, either super useful or ending up just as a weird gimmick. At first I thought the whole bottom portion was a screen, keyboard included, which I could definitely see that being useful in some situations.

I was saying on Twitter how at times I'd quite like access to a second screen, even a small thing like above. It'd be pretty useful at work too, like working on the one at top and having something like Hangouts or Youtube on the bottom.

My only issue is it does seem to heavily cramp the keyboard and trackpad down.
