We rant about music here.

I'm really goddamned tired of people playing the "MANDATORY METALLICA" at night on the radio stations and playing absolute garbage after it. People here play shit like "Low Man's Lyrics," "Whiskey in the Jar," and shit like that. What happened to the time when songs like "Battery," "Harvester of Sorrow," and "Creeping Death" were the actual songs that defined the band.

I'm sick and fucking tired of people referring to Metallica nowadays as the way they are. I believe it is possible to lay part of the blame on them, however. I have no problem with a band changing it's image or it's music, but when you do all that and change everything, it's just not right of you to claim you're just as good as you were back in the olden days.

It just sickens me when I hear people say that Metallica's best album was Load.

Oh, but then you ask them if they've listened to Kill 'Em All or Ride the Lightning and they look at you like you're fucking Tucker Carlson, not knowing what the fuck those are.

What is the true gripe here is when people claim they love a certain band, yet never do the research of actually listening to all of their music, or when people focus on a certain part. Listen. I love Metallica for what they were, and Death Magnetic SEEMS to be heading back in the right direction, however I still have my doubts. What are the odds they hire someone like Bob Cock again who will lead them in the wrong direction?

I understand the band wanted to change their image, but you cannot change what they were. The classics from Justice, Lightning, Kill 'Em, and Puppets will never be topped, but it's in them to do their damned best to try.

I don't know what I just wrote.

THINGS THAT CAN TAKE A RUNNING JUMP OFF A PIER WITH THE TIDE OUT:

People who base their entire opinion of a band or artist on one or two songs.

People that only listen to singles but never whole albums.

American Idol/The X Factor/Whatever the fuck they call it these days

Pitchfork Media

People that suddenly hate bands they liked just because they became popular.

Why would you list PItchfork but not Rolling Stone, NME, or any other publication/website? They all suck for the most part.

Because it's the one I see most often associated with music snobbery, the only one at one point I used to actually read/visit, but I just couldn't stand the way they put themselves across over an extended period of time. I've no relatively recent experience with the others, so couldn't judge accurately if I mentioned them.

But I do agree. It's why I just use last.fm for new music rather than critic reviews or whatever.

It's not even snobby as much as it is not even about the music when it comes to reviews. They review bands, not music. They've always done that though. I really don't think they're any different than they were 5 years ago they're just more popular. It's still an excellent site for news at least. But yeah... it's nearly impossible to find anything widespread that actually has consistently good reviews. Rolling Stone panders to their advertisers, whatever's popular at the moment, and major labels too much, NME tries too hard to be hip yet disregard the fact that they are trying to be hip, etc. Tiny Mix Tapes is probably about as good as it gets for something that isn't a user-review site ala Rateyourmusic.

Holy shit, People.

Who cares if Bruce Dickinson isn't singing as high pitched as he was THIRTY FUCKING YEARS AGO?! He molds the music to his voice and he puts it perfectly in.

Just because he doesn't sing as high pitched doesn't mean he doesn't give a shit or doesn't put energy into it.

Go listen to Mother of Mercy and see how much of his goddamned soul he puts into that song.
