I've never played a Mass Effect game. What exactly is the gameplay like?

From staySICK:

"Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 share the same cut out story progression typical of Bioware. Big evil, travel far and away to gather a team. Get sidetracked doing things to make your team happy huggy cookies and trust you. Bang someone. Fight the big bad. Save the ___.

Dragon Age: Origins is for the RPG fans.

ME2 is for the shooter fans."

So they're saving Earth huh?

You know the Codex says taht sea levels have risen 2 metres.

London would be one of the worst hit cities in England if that happened. We already have the Thames Barrier to deal with current sea levels, nevermind 2 metres more.

But I guess London fits the cut of 'Earth city with iconic buildings that isn't New York getting destroyed'.

Also they get to use British accents.

I am guessing that if it's the future, they found out some way to stop London from sinking. Maybe a Mass Effect generator or something.

I gotta say, I was really discouraged when I saw all the stats on what class people picked. Really? That many people picked soldier, which is easily the most boring class in the game? That's too bad.

I have a Paragon (mostly) Vanguard FemShep, and a Renegade (mostly) Sentinel DudeShep. I'll roll another character once it comes out for PS3, I'm certain. Though I really hope ME3 lets me romance Tali as FemShep- my most wanted feature, I -love- Tali, rolled my male Shepard just so I could have that relationship.

I was really disappointed with the Cerberus stats, too. I actually think that the ability to carry over a character from ME1 might be one of the reasons we saw such boring stats. I know that my very first Shepard on ME1 was a Soldier because there were imbalance issues with the other classes (as well as bugs) prior to their first patch.

That's certainly true- I played an Infiltrator for my Male Shep in ME1, and my GOD was it painful. The class was anemically underpowered.

In ME1 I've got a paragon male sentinel, a paragon female sentinel, and now I'm doing a renegade male vanguard.

In ME2 I've got a paragon male soldier, a paragon male infiltrator, a paragon male sentinel, a "neutral" female vanguard, a paragon female sentinel, and a renegade male infiltrator.

Yea, I've played the second one way too much. /blush

For some reason I've found sentinel to be the best class to pick with their Tech Armor.

I brought Thane/Garrus with me everywhere and it was great. Picking Fortitude as your special class makes you nearly invincible. You don't have access to many weapons, so I picked up the assault rifle from the collector's ship. Though for much of the game, I was a decoy and using my party as much as possible. Felt more like a tank than an actual fighter.

now that its known that the earth is at stake and that practically guarantees that the IM will be involved, to me it makes sense to give him the reaper tech. not only is it the only interesting choice there, he already has reaper tech and nothing has gone to shit. plus i want to have faith in bioware for writing a villain who is NOT just going to be straight up evil.
