New multiplayer DLC (free as usual) with a load of extras. Foremost among them: Collectors!

It's got the regular stuff (new classes, new weapons) but, instead of a new map this time around, it will have 'hazard' versions of existing maps as well as a 'challenge' feature, which is more to do with cosmetic stuff in the lobbies.

No "Shepard 2" in future ME games. Thing is with a universe so encompassing and relatively resolved I'm not sure what they could do. Playing as a past cycle of species is about the only thing I think they could do but it'd be a bit sucky as you know they'd be wiped out and unsuccessful. Or assume a specific colour of ME3 as true and canon and work from that, which would at least give something slightly new to play around with that doesn't involve Reapers and that part of the lore.

I saw where it went when he posted about ME2 so I'll save some time :P

Finished my first full Shepard playthrough. Thought the end of 3 was great. Maybe playing them all together makes the ending feel more coherent? The lack of waiting has not allowed me to build it up and put it on some pedestal that is totally unrealistic? The fact that I was not involved in the community discussions means I do not feel as invested or entitled as those who felt that their input gave them some right of ownership over the franchise? Or maybe it's because it's been run down so much over the internet that my expectations were low.

In any event. That was a great trilogy. Now I need something else to immerse myself in. The Witcher didn't really do it for me.

I'm gonna go with Ethan in that you did play the "new and improved" ending, and in playing the games so close together, and thus not having the lead up of Bioware going on about how amazing it'll be and all the different endings from all the different choices would likely have put you on a lower pedestal. And you also knew what to expect.

In other news Mass Effect 4/spin-off is seemingly in the works, and will be dropping Unreal Engine in favour of DICE's Frostbite engine. It'll also be made by Montreal, the satellite studio. Which means I assume there's a new Bioware franchise coming if the main Edmonton studio isn't dealing with ME4. I've a feeling given the move to Frostbite which is even more shooty than Unreal they'll be focusing more on the random soldier stuff of the war? Given the whole shit storm with regards to original trilogy and it's choice system and such it wouldn't surprise me if they drop all pretense of RPGness in future titles (Especially as the MP side seems to be going well for them)

Yeah, playing them so close together probably helps in many regards, as does having the Extended Cut, which Ethan already mentioned. Though I'm not sure how well the organic/synthetic nonsense carries over, and the jump of Cerberus from covert ops to full-on Sith Empire is a little jarring, regardless. Plus, the final section is complete crap compared to ME2's (boss fight excepted).

And, obviously, it can be hard to sort the legitimate complaints/criticism from general bitching.

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear about the deaths and your ending. Regardless of the 'promises about choices blahblah', I think there's quite a bit of diversity between people I've spoken to.

As for the engine and dev team switch, the Montreal studio handled parts of ME2 as well as stuff in ME3 (specifically, they are in charge of the wonderful multiplayer). And I believe their staff do move about or still collaborate anyway. I'd hope it's not even more of a switch away from the RPGness (ME3 already cut enough corners), but at least the combat side of things will be top-notch. I guess we'll see...

Also, this is great/cheeky.

Mass Effect 1: Cerberus is a rogue Alliance intelligence agency.

Mass Effect 2: Cerberus is a well funded terrorist group. Al-Queda IN SPACE!

Mass Effect 3: Cerberus is a cartoonishly powerful terrorist group. Cobra IN SPACE!

I can see the evolution of the idea, but the jump from 2 to 3 is a little hard to swallow.

Someone needs to tell Bioware what a PrtScn button is for. Kinda cool that they're sorting things out that is something Activision need to be resolving.

Also if Montreal are the team behind the MP itself than that further my thinking that the next Mass Effect game will likely be a shooter. Probably EA's answer to Halo since Danger Close doesn't seem to be doing to well.

I can swallow the jump from two to three since by this point I'm thinking that the Reapers were lending Cerberus a hand which would neatly explain how they went from ludicrously well funded terrorists to a galactic power.

They weren't exactly that powerful either given that one Alliance Fleet took them to pieces.

The highlights (and lowlights) for me were:

Mordin dies, Thane dies, Legion dies. Geth and Quarians live on Ranoch together. The genophage was properly cured. Having gone to the effort of saving the Geth, Destroy was simply not an option, I wasn't going to let the cycle continue, and being a renegade, I didn't trust myself with Control. So I went Synthesis, even if it is a bit of silly space-magic.

Well maybe you should. You also overlooked point one. RW hitting people with baseball bats was not subject to an official investigation by UK advertising authorities. In fact at the time RW was first revealed to be hitting people with baseball bats precisely balls all people knew about it.

To be honest, I'd have thought ME3 endings are pretty much up there with "Rosebud is his sled" in this circle at least.

I tend to agree. I just make it a policy to tag anything anyone says are spoilers, even if it doesn't bother me personally. Err on the side of caution and all that.

*Edit* - Especially when the whole thread is labelled spoilers. It'd be one thing if he'd said that 2 days after the game came out, but like he said it's been 6 months and the ending controversy kinda beat that horse to death and then some.
