staySICK
for brands I'd say XFX for ATI, EVGA for nvidia. Lifetime warranty on evga, and my first mobo was xfx, good stuff.
Yantelope
Lifetime warranty meaning the life of the product? Usually 3-4 years? The term "Lifetime" always bothers me. HIS has the cheapest 6950 right now and I'm wondering if they are any good. I had a Sapphire 9800 that lasted many years and never died so I'd be okay with ordering from them again. TheMightyEthan
I had a Sapphire Radeon before my current card (don't remember which specific Radeon though), and I was very happy with it.
staySICK
Friend of mine uses mainly Radeon cards and usually goes Sapphire, I think. huh, I just noticed there's a 2 GB version of the new gtx 560 available as well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261099&Tpk=gtx%20560

I thought VGA was totally dead finally.

My pre-built came with a GTS 250 'Green' edition (it's weaker, but supposedly far more energy efficient). It was an okay card, but I think they're one of the cheaper brands. System I built last year for a friend has two Palit 460s in it, they seem to be working well for him.
Yantelope
Apparently some cards come with carrying cases shaped like guns..... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150500
staySICK
lol I saw that earlier. I guess they want to make you feel like you are getting something when you spend $1000.

The most helpful review on newegg.com: "great card for the price!! bought 125 of these in bulk to use in my supercomputer, since i could only use 7 of these in my build, i used the rest to build a castle for my 2 yr old daughter to play in"

TheMightyEthan
Why does a video card need a carrying case? Do people frequently remove them from the computer and carry them around? "In other news, a local man was fatally shot by police after attempting to rob a bank with what was later determined to be a high-end video card. An officer on the scene was quoted as saying it would have been cheaper for the suspect to just use a real gun."
Yantelope
Why does a video card need a carrying case? Do people frequently remove them from the computer and carry them around? Well of course, I carry mine around with me everywhere I go so that people can see how awesome I am. Especially in a gun shaped case so that I'm constantly being stopped by police. edit: looks like you were thinking the same thing as me. Mal
I seriously wonder how many people buy that card in that case.

Yantelope
So to the AMD/ATI people out there: have you tried to run PhysX on your cards? Does it work?
Hot Heart
I think I tried it on the Arkham Asylum demo. Does not work. Lags like hell. Does make fights quite easy though... Edited January 28, 2011 by Hot Heart
Mal
I turned it on in every game I ran into that has it so far. I haven't noticed anything bad.

Faiblesse Des Sens
I've never once had a need for PhysX. Also, is Havok ever going to be hardware supported for AMD?

So the framerates running physX on your 6870 are good then? I'll go through all the games that has PhysX I have played to make sure but in general, I think it ran fine. It was at least 30 FPS for the games.
Mal
Well, before the forums died on me for a few hours... and with it my edited reply. In short... I realize that my only game that has PhysX is Mafia 2*. Its runs well enough that I can play but it can dip as low as 20 FPS in intense firefights. That was on Medium PhysX settings. I'm sure the 6950 can run it better than my 6870 can with PhysX on but I doubt it can run it on High PhysX settings. If you want high settings, a Nvidia card would be needed. Your call on how good you want your PhysX to be. I can't blame you for wanting it on high. The difference between none and medium is pretty clear to see. It even sort of makes it to feel like a different game. When I was shopping for a videocard, PhysX was not something I considered. With the 6870, I think I got pretty lucky that PhysX runs on it. Else I would start to have buyer's remorse. Whelp, I think a Crossfire setup is in order now... *As far as I know, Mafia 2 is quite a beefy game in graphic terms so I think maybe a lesser game with PhysX can run better on the 6870. Yantelope
I tried running the Mafia 2 benchmark on my GTX260+ with PhysX and it slowed down a bit. That's good to know that the Radeon cards are not having too much trouble with PhysX these days. Also, I saw this on newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127502&cm_re=gtx_480-_-14-127-502-_-Product $300 (after rebate) for a GTX 480 seems great until I realized just what a power hog these things are. I don't think it'll work on my 500W PSU.
