Crysis 2

So word on the street seems to be the 360 can't run this game very well. Bit of a bummer. I guess that maybe answers why the 360 got the beta/demo, but surely the PS3 can't of fared that well too? (though keep in mind Crysis MP is made by Crytek UK aka Free Radical aka made Haze which while shit, did seems pretty pretty for a early PS3 game) Wonder if this is why the game got held off?

Crytek/EAs eyes bigger than it's stomach? It'd of been great if the engine worked fine on all platforms as promised. That Siggraph demo of the editor looked great.

Not ping issues, but fps issues. Apparently doesn't creep past 20fps.

I'd test myself but Crytek seem to think the PC and PS3 versions run perfectly fine and of course don't need Betas/demos. (or EpicBattleCry theory: MS paid a fair bit to get this on their system, turns out it actually did need a beta)

By "this" do you mean the game itself or the exclusive demo/beta/whatever?

If the PS3 can run it fine the 360 should be able to too, unless they just did a shitty-ass port job.

"This" as in the beta/demo. Which they also discussed a bit on the whole beta/demo thing where the two are used interchangeably these days.

And as it stands since theres no PS3 beta we have no idea how well the PS3 version runs but this is their 2nd PS3 game, 3rd PC game and 1st 360 game, so maybe their skills aren't up to snuff? Potentially using features that the PS3 can take advantage of in the Cell?

the console versions are dumbed down from the PC version too. The tech demos show a few of the effects are disabled on the console versions and it clearly is running at a low resolution vs a PC (1650x1080 min). I haven't tried it yet but I plan on giving it a whirl when I get home.

As far as the PC version goes, it'd be nice if they'd release a benchmark prior to the game release so that people could prep their systems for release.

Dumbed down= worse graphics?

...

Sorry, yeah, If you watch the tech demo videos which are on youtube and gametrailers they list they types of effects that the engine can render and a fair few of them say "PC Only". Also, some other comparison videos done by people have indicated that the draw distance and other things on the console versions is much less than that of the PC version.

It's definitely dumbed down graphically (EDIT: Imho dumbed down applies to anything that has been downgraded or made worse, in any context). A bunch of the textures in the demo don't even look that great, and I'm 100% certain they would on the PC version, judging by video's I've seen of the same kinds of textures.

The netcode doesn't seem great either. The whole thing is trying to be goddamn Modern Warfare, but it's more laggy and more frustrating overall, even though you can do a couple of cool things. It has problems the early CoD multiplayer had, too, like killcam's showing a completely different story to what happened on your own screen. The lag isn't super noticeable- and the framerate seems fine- but it is juuust noticeable enough to make getting solid hits on enemies difficult and to make a lot of gameplay really frustrating.

It's fun, but I'm really not feeling it. I think if they slowed the pace (except if you're sprinting of course) of the game and made the maps larger it would be far more unique and enjoyable.

Yeah, ok, having played the demo some last night, here are my thoughs.

It's a great looking XBox game but it doesn't look the same as Crysis did on the PC. Fidelity is definitely lower, AA is 2x at most, low resolution etc. It doesn't have the wow factor that Crysis has on the PC.

The game itself is shocking in just how much it copies COD. There are killstreak rewards, and small maps and the suit powers work a little like perks. It's not bad though since I was never really into Crysis multiplayer on the PC.

The map is very small Dean. The PC maps I played had vehicles driving around huge open areas and that's just not even close to this demo. It plays like a small to medium call of duty map. If you compare it to COD though it stacks up pretty well. I was having a pretty good time on it what little I played yesterday. I'm still definitely getting this for PC.

That larger map with vehicles multiplayer sounds really great. I'm not enjoying the map in the MP demo. Not only is it small, it's not that well designed- there are choke points everyone goes to and combat just gets scrappy.

The speed of the game would probably work better in a large map also. I'm really not feeling this game. If this was a single player demo, I would probably have been a lot more sold.

Tried out the demo last night. Was holding out for the PC version but after seeing footage I couldn't resist giving it a shot. I think I'm just gonna get it on both now. Mostly wanted it for graphics/mods/making videos of 10000 explosive barrels falling out of the sky so for a while PC was the way to go; but I didn't think I would loooooooooove the multiplayer this much. I'm kind of glad they went all CoD with it; didn't much like the Crysis Wars game just because I can't stand long distance combat; makes it feel too much like a game of i Spy rather than an actual test of ability.

The LMG seems overpowered though. Anyone else feel that?
