If you google it, the title comes up as "The Gamer's Guide". The problem is that Kotaku posts stories about treating women equally, but is a big offender at perpetuating stereotypes about Japanese women. It's crappy how contradictory they are on a daily basis.

But, no, I don't think anyone should be surprised.

What stereotypes do they perpetuate? I often see articles that are about the negative aspects in Japanese culture concerning that.

edit: I should also throw in there that either way it's two different writers. Why does "Kotaku" itself have to be one thing? Or any site for that matter? Imagine if we all had to share the same opinions and views on this message board.

It is not just one article you can point to. It's the love pillows, the cosplay, the article about how Japanese woman view the one out-of-place tooth as a beauty mark, how in Japan you can get a hot maid to come play video games with you as a service. It's more a culmination of what they write about.

Let's apply it like this. If you keep talking about hooters and how hooters are such great fun, in between your talking about games, pretty much your audience is going to be limited to guys who like talking about hooters. Women might want to not talk about hooters, as it does make some uncomfortable. So, lay back on the hooters talk and talk about gaming. The audience isn't just men

So Kotaku finally switched to the new Gawker blog style.

Honestly I like everything about it besides the fact Gawker is YET again insisting on two things that don't work imho:

1. Forcing us to click arrows to see more discussion/comments. Nobody will click arrows so if you're left behind you are done. This new commenting style is yet again removing any sense of community as, from what I've seen, it went into a youtube-like method of doing latest posts in front.

2. Making posts that are "approved" appear in color. I don't know what's why they insist in thinking that only comments that either they approve or a bunch of other commenters approve should get to appear in color. It really isn't complicated. Do the complete opposite. If a comment is a really bad troll/spam then DEmote the comment until it disappears. Youtube has that part right why don't they copy that?

I like the arrows! My only complaint is that it should be bigger. I like how comments are in columns, so I don't have to keep scrolling down to skip garbage. What really is the difference with the classic comment layout? Everyone who posts later are left behind. They're at the bottom of the sea.

I like the layout. I think I spent about 20 seconds looking at that girl with the magic card dress. I only did because it was so huge, I didn't have to click to zoom in. It certainly grabs attention, but I fear it's too big, and I can't seem to view an article title, with the full pic. Maybe it's just my scrolling speed.

No... i think it's just the pic that's too big.

Yes, because Youtube's system is so effective at keeping out bad comments.   :P

It is. The comments are actually hidden. It's other people's replies that gets upvote (because they called out the comment) that makes them visible again. And don't deny it, you click on "show" even if youtube says "this comment is spam!".

Oh I didn't see WaS post. Yeah that's greyed out and hidden. But then what I said above... ^

I'm guilty too anyway. I actually am sometimes frustrated. "Goddammit youtube just tell me what he said already!"

Every time I read a Kotaku article, and I get to the bottom, I think "I will not read the comments... I will not read the comments". Then I read the comments, and get things like this:

It isn't ok just because it's a good game. I'm tired of being lied to. Hell, the current tv trailer is a big lie, and they let it air! It's time to hold Devs accountable for their actions. Bullshots, fake trailers, none of that should be "ok".

From this article.

Gamers can be the fucking worst people. Talk about grasping at straws for things to complain about.
