Notice how one actually reports on actual Japanese culture, while the other... well... yeah.

What does Japanese culture have to do with an Olivia Munn article?

Exactly. You just answered yourself. What DOES Olivia Munn have to do with Japanese culture as a whole?

A good question to ask Bashcraft.

Are you forgetting that Kotaku is a video game site and she so happens to be one of the most foremost "gaming" celebrities? He only lightly ties it into Japan by mentioning similar situations with Japaense celebs. There's a total of five sentences dedicated to that.

I always liked Bashcraft. Most of the weeaboo stuff doesn't bother me (there's usually cleavage, I'm fine with that even if I am looking for gaming news). The reason he's my favourite writer though is because he's also the only one on Kotaku who doesn't cater exclusively to the mainstream crowd. I look forward to his GOTY nominations because he'll sacrifice his vote for the latest CoD or Rockstar game and give it to something like Bangai-o Spirits or Shut Up and Jam Gaiden. Ever since I started seeing this in him I really started paying attention to the games he writes about and I've found some real gems because of it. Plus, he's more inclined to share news that actually relates to smaller, more specific gaming communities like fighting and shmup fans and that kind of stuff is usually interesting (Luke does this pretty well too though).

Totilo is the exact opposite because he's especially quick to dismiss any game that wasn't made in the last 2 years and while he's constantly preaching about the direction video games are taking he only ever gives any sort of attention or praise to the most generic mechanics that are so formulaic that it would be hard for a game to actually fuck them up (remember those old retrospectives on unpopular games he used to write?).

So I noticed that some people voted that Crescente was their least favorite editor. Any of you guys care to explain why? I never really took notice to anything Crescente put it myself, so I've been rather oblivious to his articles.

http://kotaku.com/comment/35712996 - that'd be part of it.

Also as EiC he is in control of what goes on at kotaku. He's the helmsman of the ship, and as such has control over what kind of things they cover and he's shown time n time again he doesn't particularly care if what they cover is VG news or not. The only reason Fahey gets to run his half-arsed science articles and Bash gets to neglect NSFW policies is cos Brian has no issue with it. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he encourages it. I don't think the dude wants to write for a VG blog, but since it's the gig he's landed himself in he's gonna make of it what he can. And I think as long as he keeps the hit's coming Denton doesn't mind either way.

Still the new site design looks to turn off plenty of users. And I've got adblock on but by the sounds of it those ad's sound terrible.

Did anyone else find it odd that Luke (who is known to hate Telltale games, and I do mean hate) was chosen to review the new Back to the Future game from... wait for it, Telltale? As if you couldn't see it coming from a mile away, he gave it a scathing review.

A guy who dislikes Telltale gives a bad review for a Telltale game? BWUH?

I will say that Poker Night at the Inventory isn't anything special, as far as gameplay is concerned. The AI does very weird things, like go all in with only a pair of twos, or they'll repeatedly fold round after round. It's a fun game for only five bucks, though.

The best part about the entire game is the dialogue. I've heard so many hilarious conversations out of it.

I never figured out which editor liked what genre in all my time at Kotaku. Did they spell this out in some #note post or something?

Luke - Fighters (period.)

Ashcraft - Anything made before 1998 or in Japan

Totilo - games for BROS

Fehey - Erotic/furry games (and MMOs, not that they really fall into a separate category)

McWhertor - Has an awesome beard, can play whatever he wants

Owen - Sports and whatever the current trend is in Balance Board fitness

Tim - Should stop playing

Crecente - iPhone games and other shit no one cares about
