Many apologies for posting twice in a row, but this fucking Kotaku article really steamed me. Not for the supposed content about JRPG's, but for the godawful and weird writing.

Take this paragraph:

"It's common for role-playing games to feature young characters as they are entering adulthood. Stylistic choices, such as hairstyles or even settings, are shared among many Japanese role-playing games. The shame, however, could be said about Western shooters, but that's another conversation for another time."

Ignoring the obvious typo ("shame" instead of "same"), it reads like a dry news article. But it's also unsourced and fucking vague as all hell. Now, you and I know what Ashcraft means and he doesn't need to tell most gamers about these common JRPG features, and so the paragraph is superfluous to the intended audience and should have been cut.

Whenever quoting Bashcraft the [sic] and "etc" are both implied.

http://kotaku.com/5743970/autistic-boy-branded-a-cheater-by-xbox-live

"Apparently he's so good at games that Xbox Live believes he's using external aid to help him win."

Thank you, Mr. Fahey, for adding a line that has no factual basis and skews the perspective of the entire story, clogging the comments with dumbasses claiming Microsoft resets your gamerscore if they just think you're doing 'so good'.

(The story was destined to have idiotic replies no matter what, but still.)

No one would even care at all if the kid didn't have a disability. As soon as autism got mentioned, Microsoft was gonna come out of it looking like the villain - no way to avoid it.

Apparently, following company protocol and doing your job is fine and dandy if it's just a normal 11 year old, but if it's an 11 year old with autism, you're then a heartless bastard.

I like when nerds on kotaku say theyd pay any amount for something they wished existed. Its always a sequel to an obscure game or a limited edition whatever.

They wouldnt pay anything. No one would pay more than regualr price for a regular game.

I wish just for once the companies took them up on their offer.

Ff7 remake should be 300 dollars.

The continued popularity of DLC and expensive collector's editions undermines your assertion. But $300 is pushing it.

I'd pay $50 for that PS2 add-on to the PS3 that Sony patented. ;)

They ended ip using that tip?

ffs. I tipped it cos after them glossong over multiple gamers voice stuff I wanted to see what they'd do with unrelated stuff that I add 'its like video games' to.

Seems they both used it and apparently tucked it up. Also just dean huh? I guess they don't want to link to my new account :P

Well, amongst non-enthusiasts the term clip is more general than magazine; a magazine is a type of clip. It's incorrect and maddening, but tons of people make the same mistake.

But, yeah, I thought Owen knew his gun stuff. At least he strikes me as a down-home country bro who would have been exposed to that sort of thing even if he's not an enthusiast.

For whoever it was who asked why Crecente had a high ranking in the first poll:

Note the dates.

Also it came alongside this video (Cornfield strips images and video):

I made that comment not long before making the DNF thread which is why I had the 2001 video on hand.

It apparently took the guy over a week to not get the joke.

Or the dude is demented enough he went back through over a week of comments to find anything that may potentially be ban worthy. Rather than banning me for something that actually was.

Dude has issues. Never mind the last time I was banned when he decided to go on a little peak through my Facebook account too. (p.s don't Like kotaku and make sure to check your Applications, they secretly add stuff on.) There's just being a douche, and then there's overstepping personal boundaries of your readers. Since that little incident my account became pretty locked down. Oh and remember guys if you're gonna start fishing about your readers facebook accounts; don't quote them.

Why, thank you ThursdayNext for bringing this to our attention, that'd make a nice little filler article article on a slow news day. We appreciate the tip.

Okay this one is kind of getting to me. It's a fair bit assumptive that because leigh lies about what games she's played, what bosses she's beaten, that obviously we all do it.

Nope. I'm pretty damn open about the fact I've never touched a zelda game in my life, suck at SMB3, etc.

Whats the point anyway? Especially when you're in a position you're surrounded by gamers, you're gonna get called up eventually.

edit: replaced link with regular one. (totilo linked to the beta version)

But now I've read regular version, most of the comments line up: Folks don't lie about their gaming achievements. Once again kotaku editors are out of touch with the gamers that read their site.

How can any 20 something year-old gamer call himself a gamer if they haven't done that!?*

*Me.

And yeah Dean, never gotten far at all on SMB3...
