I think the problem with posting verbatim from a forum is that

1) up until NeoGAF changed the TOS a few hours ago it wasn't really something either party could do, and hte forum poster had/has no choice in the matter. Kotaku now generate earnings off what a random form poster has said on a totally unrelated site.

2)It's a forum post, it's something meant for discussion. It's not an article like posting from RPS. It's like taking photos of a play park and just showing presentation slides of it to kids during breaktime. It's a bit against the point of forums

It's entirely one sided to Kotaku. NeoGAF are unlikely to get many hits in returns, and it's unlikely to spark much more discussion on their due to the NeoGAF registration process. And hte NeoGAF posters themselves don't seem to get much say on if their posts get lifted to be posted on kotaku or not which isn't going down so well.

Anyway do you have any idea how many people from Kotaku even bother to sign up to forums? :P

I don't see anything wrong with the "faggot is a dirty word" story. While I can never claim to understand where he's coming from as I've never been molested, I do tend to get upset when someone posts something rather hurtful about a subject they couldn't begin to comprehend. Back in middle school, some students took advantage of my mentally-challenged nature to make me the class joker of the school. It's why I've always had a lot of trouble with jokes about mentally-handicapped people.

The COMMENTS on that story, on the other hand... let's just say seeing some of those comments makes me very angry.

I don't think Kotaku divulged where McWhertor was off to (though I might be wrong).

Today's episode of Invisible Walls over at GameTrailers introduced him as their newest member of the staff. Not to say that GT is the pinnacle of the video game journalism industry, but I think it's fair to say he left for greener pastures, don't you guys think?

So for those who don't follow him it seems the @GameJournos guy has has a new burst of activity on his GJAIF blog. One of them was about an article on Kotaku of "games to play with no internet". Only two PC titles listed actually require internet activation (Skyrim n Arkham City). I responded to GameJournos over twitter saying it's pretty slim chance that totillo has touched a PC game in months. Within less than a minute I had a response off Totilo stating he'd actually played a few yesterday*. Worth noting I didn't use the proper @person twitter thing. Just his name. Which means he's either got an eagle eye on gamejournos and any responses he gets, me (unlikely) or has some sort of alert system set-up for his name. Creepy. I use google alerts sure, but not for my name but for games n such. I should probably use it some more actually, pretty handy tool.

*which doesn't really do much to refute it. For example had I said same thing of.. fahey the reply would be along lines of "nope. got plenty of hours under my belt on Skyrim" or a link to his steam account or something(but I wouldn't Fahey is clearly a PC gamer kinda guy). Just playing a few yesterday doesn't really say that he's been actively PC gaming for the past few months. Certainly doesn't dispute that he's probably never touched the two games he's recommended.

In other news it seems I've been unblocked by at least one Kotaku writer :P

Yeah, I'd take whatever this guy at GameJournos takes with a grain of salt. He's bitter and hostile. Granted, he's right that the article does say you can play these games without a connection. The article actually states the consoles and PC, obviously PC being an error. So, I think this guy is just being a dick to be a dick and get website hits rather than to try and make change.

My 2 cents.

Actually as he's pointed out several times before as the site has no adverts (and it's run on Tumblr, so not much need since: free hosting) traffic isn't really an incentive. It's a valid criticism on his part since it's a bit silly to make an article that's specifically for people without internet and two of them require it. A bit like when making an article on games to play on a netbook, it's usually a good idea to make sure they run on a netbook. In fact I don't think there's any PC games these days that don't require internet in some shape or form, either to buy or download, or to activate it. About the only one, as Paddon suggested on his twitter, is burning GOG games to disc for friends.

So ignoring that Ben Kuchera of Ars made this joke a week or so ago (And that whatever it is they've got on D'toid, I'm thinking ads, cripples the browser upon loading), I find it kinda sad that Jim is still going with this whole attempt at tongue n cheek with regards to his reviews when it's rather clear that they could just get rid of the numbers n voila. But of course can't do that cos if they don't have numbers metacritic can't list them.

Today, Microsoft’s Hype about the Greatness of the Xbox 360 is True

The subject line of an e-mail I got yesterday declared, without punctation, that "Xbox 360 is Home to the Most Anticipated Games of 2012".

Their list:

  • Halo 4
  • Fable: The Journey
  • Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure
  • Kinect Star Wars

Despite the brutal failure rate, I finally got a 360 a while ago so I could play multiplayer with my friends (almost no one had a PS3...) I've been surprised how many really great, solidly fun titles I've ended up with on it. For one thing I'm sort of an XBLA junkie.

That said... I'm not interested enough in anything on that list to even find a screenshot. Then, I'm usually not into blockbusters... but that still looks really weak. And are people really hotly anticipating Kinect games? I bet there are a few hardcore who can't wait, but for the overall 360 player base? That reads like they had a quota of 2 controller games and 2 Kinect games.

I heard about this through a RT lewieP did of someone else. It piqued my interest and..turns out Crecente is leaving Kotaku. Shame that the past year he's been replaced by Joel Johnson or it might have meant fun times ahead.

In related (for all we know extremely related) news the McElroy brothers and someone else left Joystiq about a week ago. Personally I'm of the feeling they're aiming for a video game version of The Verge. (a stie set up late last year by a bunch of folks who left Joystiqs sister site Engadget)

I'm all for a good "Golden Years" of Kotaku kind of site rising to popularity...so if the right people leave the right places and make the right site with the right... you get the point.

Not sure who those right people would be, but basically, I get my news from real-life friends and you guys, and I don't feel like I'm missing out by not visiting a gaming page regularly. (That said, the last 8 months of my life have been crazy, busy and crazy-busy. Maybe in a year or two if things are calm, I'll want a few more sites to visit regularly.)

I liked Crecente, he did suffer from being too popular and had all the blind followers agree with him and rail on anybody who thinks differently than him in the comments section, but as far as Crecente is considered he was good.

I'm with Dean, Joel Johnson is the biggest problem with all of Gawker media, even though I enjoyed Crecente, I couldn't enjoy the site.
