Nick Denton having a pop at Buzzfeed:

"And this discussion system is not something that Buzzfeed would build. Jonah – whether at Huffington Post or Buzzfeed – has always cared more about the volume of discussion and social sharing than its quality. He sees comments as a way for readers to *think* they're contributing. It's cynical."

Strange as that is exactly the feeling I get at Kotaku.

I'm a little sad, honestly. I mean, I know stars didn't amount of anything really, but I still tried to make sure my comments were more than just 'lol thats dumb' since I always saw stars a sign that you made quality posts and weren't a huge jerk.

That and I'm pretty bad at maintaining a presence on forums in comparison to a blog that I'm checking for news every day. Still, in the long run I met some interesting people that I like, so it's not all bad.

This entire fucking comment thread if one of the most aggravating things I have read on the internet in months. Just, it astounds me how ignorant these people are.

"at what point as a society do we go too far?

what happens when someone wants to be dual gender, or a dolphin?"-Fuckwit

Yeah, this one was pretty horrific as well. One of my favorites:

"I'm all for gay marriage as long as I don't have to visually see it... including kissing. Not a phobia, just disgusts me a little."-Derpington

You also have to remember that these are the kinds of articles that Denton wants. Anything that can get unique page hits. So, find something that you know the interwebz will react controversially for or against, and watch the arguments start.

I would not play into that web of BS. I quit clicking on anything with the "sexism" tag or anything similar.

Now, Star Wars shit, I can't fuckin control myself. Must click! Must fuckin' click!

Maybe im wearing nostalgia goggles, but I honestly dont remember having this many trolls in the comments section before. Theres tons of them, some of them even have stars. They really dont seem to ban anyone anymore, compared to when everyone here was commenting on there, in which they used to ban like crazy for any reason.

Kotaku comments are awesome.

The Wii U doesn't have a power problem it seems to have a Gawker problem. I bet it runs Mario and Zelda and any other Nintendo games just fine. That's why I'll be buying it. I'm not buying it to play CoD etc. I'll have an Xbox for that. As for Playstation, if they suck as bad in the next gen as they do this gen I'll be passing. I have a blu-ray player already after all. Or perhaps Sony will come up with a new improved proprietary format that they try to shove down everyone's throats. Sony has been and forever will be more worried about milking consumers with proprietary memory formats and will likely continue to slip. I barely play my PS3 because every time I do I have to wait for some slow ass update that is so bad that Sony actually has the nerve to use them as a selling point for their crappy paid online service. Stop all the Nintendo hate already. All game systems have certain positive qualities. I have all 3 current home consoles as well as a 3ds and Vita. I never sit around comparing them. They are all in my possession for different games/experiences.

Wut?

I can dissect that entire thing, but the bigger question is why people buy systems they dont like. Why? Sell it if you dont like it and buy more games for the system you do like. Sheesh. Its so weird when an 360 fan buys a PS3 4 or 5 years after its out and complain that there arent enough games and they leave it collecting dust. And vice versa. There arent any games because you bought 75% of them for the other system, dumbass.

^I get called a PS3 fanboy every now and then on forums... but I had a 360 for years. I enjoyed my time with it. I bought a PS3 and ended up selling the 360 because there were fewer and fewer interesting games in comparison to PS3 coming out, XBL should not be a pay service, and lots of small stuff like accessories for wifi and crap like that. More people need to do this. Instead of having a product you're barely going to use just sell it to someone who will use it. I had a buddy who needed a 360 after moving out so I sold it to him for cheap. I got money, he has a console. It worked out better for everyone.

I don't think I like one system more than the other. The ps3 has the fantastic xmb, my favorite franchises of this generation and free online play. My xbox has better online functions (at a yearly fee) all my friends have it and its the controller I prefer. Both systems have what I want, ill go months without playing my ps3 or xbox and then just boot the other up and swap over in an instance. I used to defend Sony but ive got to thepoint where picking a console to defend is pointless. In a perfect world I would like to see the next consoles more identical to eachother with cross platform play, but that ain't happening
