Mister Jack
From the days of the NES all the way up to current-gen games, all kinds of companies try to copy the success of Mario and Sonic's character branding. While some franchises become relatively successful in their own right (Ratchet, Spyro), most of them just didn't last long either because the character just wasn't very memorable and/or because their games just weren't very impressive. There's a huge laundry list of platformer rejects. Post the ones you loved or hated here.
Faiblesse Des Sens
That one kangaroo thing that EA tried to do last-gen. Wait fuck, was it even a kangaroo? The fact that I can't remember certainly helps its case for this thread.

Mudkip3DS
I seriously wish I could put up Bubsy in this thread, but that's not even a platformer mascot, it's more of a failed "third-party" mascot. It's still a failed mascot, regardless, though.
TheForgetfulBrain
Crash Bandicoot has kind of taken a nosedive since the PS1, yeah?
Mister Jack
In case anyone else can't remember who Ty is, it's this guy: Here's one I actually played on the Genesis. I didn't OWN it. I emulated it. So I guess I played it on my PC, technically Whatever. Know who that is? That's Boogerman. Yeah, that's his real name and the name of his game. He attacked by flicking boogers, farting, and belching. Can you imagine if this guy took off? We'd be playing next-gen Boogerman VII: Invasion of the Buttmunchers or something. Bend over and spread your buttcheeks apart for the Kinect to pick up power farts. Edit: I think Bubsy still counts, Mud. It started as a platformer. deanb
We wanting platformer mascot (as in side-scrolling type affair, lots of jumping and..platforms) or failed platform mascot, as in the personification of a game company. As in Masterchief = platform mascot but not a platformer mascot. Just to clarify before I continue

Faiblesse Des Sens
I really enjoyed Boogerman as a kid. Not because I was like "lol he just farted" the whole time, I actually did enjoy it as a platformer.

deanb
I actually remember this being a pretty good game. My parents weren't keen on it mind, my step-mums never been fond of 3D platformers. Give her Sonic n she's pleased as punch though. Didn't play the sequel, but I assume it wasn't that good since there's no 3rd game. In fact I don't even think this is out on PSN. Bit of a bummer, I'd of been up for it. Might hunt it down for PSP. We must have it boxed up somewhere. I think Crocs problem was while the game was pretty good, croc himself wasn't massively memorable. Faiblesse Des Sens
I have another one: Tomba. I really wish that would have worked out because both games were great!

I had a demo of Croc on my computer and I was obsessed, I wanted that game so bad. Something about the shiny looking pickups and (for that time) pretty graphics. Mister Jack
You played as a Wizard's glove and you had to get that rubber ball to the end of each level. Game itself was actually pretty decent. You could bounce the ball, slap it at enemies, roll on it, or transform it to serve various purposes. It was sorta like a puzzle platformer. Still, it's a glove.

TheForgetfulBrain
This is like nostalgia lane, here. Anyone ever play the Sega Donald Duck platformer? I remember plungers and not being able to get past the first level because I couldn't figure out how to get past a wall.

Mister Jack
I like how they called it "Awesome Possum kicks Dr. Machino's Butt". They really expected to make other episodes. Brain, you're thinking of Quackshot. Damn good game, actually. And you needed different plungers from a different level to get past that wall. And you needed different plungers from a different level to get past that wall. Oh my gosh, yes! Haha. I was really young and my mom's friend's husband was one a programmer for Sierra Online, so they had all the systems that were out, and I'd beg to go with my mom over there with her and play them since we just had an old Nintendo at that point. I guess I was too young to find out you had to go into the menu and call the airplane. Good memories, though.
Gyaruson
Since Microsoft really failed to create a face for their company, they tried their hand at a few horribly misguided games: Brute Force: And Blinx: Gee, I wonder why they never worked out... Mister Jack
Blinx wasn't the worst idea I've ever seen but they could never really make his games exceptional enough to stand out.
SixTwoSixFour
Does anyone remember when Nintendo tried to make that fucking plumber their mascot? Man, was that a dumb idea. trollface.jpg
Commander Shepard
Does anyone remember when Nintendo tried to make that fucking plumber their mascot? Man, was that a dumb idea. trollface.jpg It would be stupider if he fought a dinosaur with an army of mushrooms and turtles. Also, Gex. Started on the Playstation, jumped to Nintendo, where Nintendo tried to push it so hard as been a successful platforming character.
Mister Jack
Didn't Gex start on the 3D0? Ohhh they wanted him to be popular SO MUCH.
