vs. Capcom

Well ok let me put it like this. Why would you play as Ryu when Akuma is right there.

Because... they're different... characters.... Jack, come on. Akuma is rushdown, Ryu is more defensive. Akuma's individual hits do more, Ryu has better combos. That's like asking "why would you play Juri when Chun-Li is right there." I wouldn't, personally, but it's not a fair comparison.

EDIT: ESPECIALLY when the Versus series exaggerates this difference like it does, giving Ryu the Shinku Hadouken as his go-to Hyper while giving Akuma a sort of evil Shoryureppa. In Street Fighter, they're pretty different. In MvC, they're INCREDIBLY different.

EDIT2: Plus...

Ryu's got some tricks of his own.

All I'm sayin is that when I play online I see about a thousand fucking Akumas for every Ryu.

I honestly don't seem to run into nearly as many Akumas as Ryus... and nearly as many Ryus as Kens. (Shrug) I don't disbelieve you, I don't know, maybe you're just unlucky. Or maybe my matchmaking recognizes how bored I get with playing shotos.

Wow. So, they just announced Akuma and Taskmaster officially, that's not surprising... what IS surprising is how lame Akuma looks. They even gave him a beam hadouken hyper.

Now I have to agree with you, Jack. I liked his addition because I figured they would emphasize the DIFFERENCES between the characters, not make them as similar as possible -_-

Even though I've played nearly every Street Fighter game and spin off, including the Puzzle Fighter games, I still can't bring myself to buy Street Fighter 4, even when it was on the steam sale. Just something doesn't jive about it with me.

and as for Mister Jack's question of Ryu vs Ken, I'm surprised no one has brought up Dark Ryu and Dark Ken, just to add more into the mix, because every major character needs his evil clone.

Showing my nerddom here... but technically, it's Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. Evil Ryu's playstyle is decent, but not all that interesting- somewhere between Ryu and Akuma- but Violent Ken actually plays really interestingly. He's an incredibly fast melee type with powerful combos, I would love to see him brought back.

And as for taunt lovers, I know it's not the same, but....

Sort of reminds me of "Q" from Third Strike, where each successful completion of his taunt increased the amount of damage Q did. After about three taunts, you could easily wreck your opponent like they were tissue.

Man, I miss Q. He was a deliciously bizarre terror. If he made it into MvC3, even as DLC, I would cry tears of joy. It would be MAGNIFICENT.

Okay, I'm happy because Taskmaster is the SHIT, but really? Tron Bonne AND Zero, but no Mega Man? Ever since that moment at the end of the original MvC when he turns all purple and red when you're beating onslaught, I have been a Mega Man STALWART. Fuck them if they don't include him.

I dont have anything against her, but i have no idea why they put crimson viper in there. Is she popular or something?

Okay, there are going to be two parts to this post. One, why Capcom put her in, and two, why you should love her.

Why Capcom put her in? MvC is their platform to push characters that they want to be popular. C. Viper is a pretty new character (debuted in SF4) that they are very happy with, and they want her to become a fan favorite. Also, she is an incredibly popular character among pro players- the way she plays is just completely unlike any other character. There are a lot of professional C. Viper players, and her inclusion will make them happy.

And why should you love her? 1) She's a single mom, and a GOOD one. She talks to her young daughter in between matches (one of her intros that we've seen in MvC3 is her jumping onto the stage while on the phone, and gently explaining that "Sorry, mommy's at work." It is super cute), and it's completely adorable. There are very, very few single moms in video games. 2) Her playstyle. She's a combo maniac based on fakeouts and mind games- it's deliciously fun, once you get used to it. 3) She's actually a decent character, backstory-wise. She's a member of the CIA investigating the machinations of Bison and Seth and all that, and in order to do so in a manner that wouldn't get her IMMEDIATELY shot in the face, she masquerades as a scientist wanting to get battle data on her new "Battle Suit."

4) ...She can taser people in the balls/cooch. You gotta love it.
