Bouchart
http://kotaku.com/5712633/commenting-accounts-compromised-++-change-your-passwords Surprised this isn't up here yet.
Chronixal
Adrian Chen has put on twitter that the posting on Gawker linking to the torrent of it's source code wasn't put up by him and he's ultimately been hacked. I'm concerned that the notice to chance passwords similarly is malicious and thus in doing so has actually compromised me more rather than reducing it. Bouchart
The commenting section there is acting up too.
Bouchart
Does anyone else look at this as a blessing in disguise? I mean, on the bright side, they might be forced to trash the horrible 2.0 redesign that they planned and start over from scratch. Gawker isn't that bright. Chronixal
That they refer to their users as peasants speaks volumes.
Sindo
Well shit. I used one of my fairly common passwords there. Not to mention that I use Sindo everywhere.
superfrogsavestokyo
Yeah, I just saw the post on Kotaku. Glad my password is completely different from my others. I find myself visiting Lifehacker more and more lately.

Chronixal
Of course, they're claiming it's fake and/or doctored but I wouldn't surprise me if it's legit.
deanb
That they refer to their users as peasants speaks volumes. iLjaG
I don't even know my Gawker password. I had to reset it once before and it got changed to j6hyg6j4h53g6j54hg73 or some such mess. Copy-pasted it into the login screen and saved it to my browser history.
Bouchart
I would change the password of the email linked to your Gawker account if they are the same.
iLjaG
I believe sice there is no Gawker workplace outside of their NYC office, and the fact that many of their editors work across the U.S., that's the program they use to communicate with each other. And they're scanning 4chan to find out what the hell is happening to all their passwords and what all has been compromised. That aside, it's amusing to see they wouldn't even care if it didn't effect them. "Only users? Fuck'em."

Bouchart
Changing a couple of passwords was worth it to see Gawker with a black eye, though.
Chronixal
Odd that they would be attacked. What was their general stance on the Assange affair?
Bouchart
Odd that they would be attacked. What was their general stance on the Assange affair? If I remember correctly, 4chan once tried to hack Gawker quite a while ago, before the whole Wikileaks thing. On balance I think Gawker is more pro-Assange than anti, just by their general politics. Chronixal
I wouldn't be entirely surprised if we now see an episode where they're continue to deny that image's authenticity and mod/ban anyone who argues this until they're forced into point where they make a public apology, by which point a sizeable portion of the userbase has already left. It's a pretty appalling state of affairs really.
Bouchart
Dean maybe you should make a post on Speakup now to advertise this forum? Everyone looks like they're there now.
deanb
http://pastebin.com/9rRmf6W5 Plunks? Somewhat amusing to see Gawker uses Google Apps. I thought they'd use something a bit more high rent, or their own solution. We use Google Apps for PXOD for crying out loud. Btw you may want to do a ctrl+F on that past bin and type in your password to see if it crops up. (Actually a ctrl+f won't do much since they only linked to folks with the password as password)
iLjaG
The peasants comment makes my blood boil, too. Shit like this is why I've just lost all respect for Gawker as an organization. The Internet would be a better place if the servers hosting this tabloid trash that they call a "journalism network" were to catch fire and melt. It warms my heart when people get all fire n' brimstone on Gawker.

Chronixal
Thankfully, it would appear I'm in the clear...for now. Seriously though, using password and qwerty as a password?
