The Halo Thread

Me caring about Halo begins and ends with the Master Chief and Cortana. Those two have such a great quasi-romance going on that I find it so hard to care about anyone else in the universe. I think that's what made me not enjoy Halo ODST or Reach as much. Also, mute heroes suck with the exception of Chrono and Link.

What about the Chief/Johnson Bromance? D:

Master Chief is practically a mute character. He says like 3 words across the whole series.

Yeah. Basically, it's the best way to do a silent protagonist: have him say just enough (while being neutral) that you can subtly guide how the player thinks about the situation without getting in the way.

IIRC, they did a sequel to Ghosts of Onyx so you find out what happened to those people.

Halo: Glasslands hits... October 25, I believe.

I didn't say human on human was blooodless. If anything I said the opposite.

I didn't say drones are free and infinitely replaceable either. They are cheap and repairable though. A bullet passes through the CPU of a drone, you replace the parts weld on a new front plate and send it back out. A bullet passes through the CPU of a human soldier and it's a lot harder to fix. A solider also needs training, a drone just requires manufacturer in a factory and it's done.

Halo 5 was never coming out this year. Last year at E3 they announced a Halo game for Xbone for this fall and for some reason everyone assumed it was Halo 5 (Halo has never been a 2 year cycle for the main entries), but it's actually Halo 2 Anniversary (not officially announced, but Master Chief's voice actor said that's what it is).

Well now it's rumored that this year's game isn't just Halo 2 Anniversary, but is actually the "Master Chief Collection": Halo 1-4 all packaged together and remastered in HD for Xbone.  This is exactly what I wanted in my heart (except my dream bundle would have also included ODST and Reach), but never actually dared to hope for.

There's no details, but the thing that would make the most sense to me is completely remastering the graphics of Halo 2 to bring them in line with Halo: Anniversary and Halo 4, and then just upresing Anniversary, 3 and 4 without actually redoing any assets.  Halo 3 could do with some asset replacement too, cause its models and stuff always looked a little wonky to me, but given it was already a 360 game I'm skeptical they'd go to that much trouble.

Halo 3's Forge Mode is surviving the transition.  Ordinarily wouldn't be news, but there was some question about it after the reveal that they didn't immediately clear up.

Bigger news is that they're adding Saved Films to Halo 2.  No word on whether it will be in every gametype like Halo 3 or just custom games like Halo 4 (where it didn't work in Campaign or regular multiplayer).

Good rundown of the collection on Eurogamer:  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-12-halo-the-master-chief-collection-is-pure-fan-service

An especially neat bit about the multiplayer:

343 has filtered the maps by game type. So, you make a decision about the mode you want to play, say Team Slayer for example, then the game searches for players. Once the matchmaking is complete, it digs up a few random maps lifted across all the games. You might get a Halo 3 map and two Halo 2 maps, or one from Halo 1, one from Halo 2 and one from Halo 3, or three from Halo 4. The players vote on which one they want to play then get stuck in.

Whatever the decision, the game switches to the engine the multiplayer map was originally created for. So if you select a Halo 3 map, the Halo 3 multiplayer engine comes up and you play Halo 3 as it existed when it launched in 2007. After that game, you might pick a Halo 4 map. At this point the Halo 4 engine is used, and so on. It's worth noting that you can still create custom games, so if you just want to play multiplayer on Halo 4 on Complex on whatever game type, you can.

How do you mean? I'm pretty sure I've got saved films of regular multiplayer games in Halo 4. I just remember being disappointed it didn't have it for campaign.

Hmm, well, if these links work, here is stuff I've made, all from regular matchmaking:

I'm guessing the new Halo 2 might be like Halo 3 where you can do all that jazz in multi and maybe just full films for campaign.

Really enjoyed MS E3 conference. Makes me wish I had the cash to get one this year, but it's looking like I'm gonna be able to save up enough just for a WiiU. Maybe by 2016 I can get a xbone, and thne picj up this collection on the cheap....really want to check it out.
