TheForgetfulBrain
MOVED FROM THIS THREAD I'm tempted to get this headset. Look like a decent one to people? I'll see how much I'm able to play over the next few weeks and then maybe get it.

Showmeyomoves!
Hm. If anyone figures out how to output the game audio through a USB headset, please let me know. The 4chan explanation only refers to Bluetooth devices, it seems... Try this. Thanks, but I tried that and it doesn't work. The Audio Device Settings actually explicitly says: "Sets the audio input and output devices for voice/video chat and other communication features." (Emphasis mine.) I found a thread on the GameSpot forums. Apparently it can't be done with USB devices, only Bluetooth. Bah... Guess my roommate will just have to live with gunfire and explosions coming from the living room. Edited January 14, 2011 by Showmeyomoves! TheForgetfulBrain
Ah boo! That's really strange. With the USB headset I was looking at getting, it says something about needing the original PS3 a/v cables, but it looks like that has both USB and A/V cables you have to connect. Hrmm. I don't think I still have those - crap.
Showmeyomoves!
It seems like something Sony could easily fix with a system update... Isn't Bluetooth a Sony technology, though? That would explain it. :/
TheForgetfulBrain
Yeahh. $50 for a crappy bluetooth ear piece is not something I would want to do. Now, if you could get a nice pair of headphones in the process, that would be something to think about. It looks like without the original A/V cables though, I'm out of luck as well. Showmeyomoves!
Oh, I saw a Bluetooth ear piece for just €15, though: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B001R5CS0W/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_d5_i1?pf_rd_m=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1THMZ34ZCR7GKEFTV973&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463375193&pf_rd_i=301128 I don't know if it's any good, but it gets 4 out of 5 stars from customer reviews. Mal
$50 and you have your cable, hand delivered by me. ;D I'm currently using a Jabra Bluetooth that came with Warhawk or something like that. Its does its job, I think? Can't say I can be bothered to spend $60 or whatever for a good one.
TheForgetfulBrain
AHH. Amazon's having a Video Game Goldbox day, and headsets seem to be the name of the game. http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox Buuuut, apparently they have multiple options? Buuuut... I can't tell what is what because they just have hints for the various deals: In twenty minutes: "TB headset for PS3" [EDIT] So this one is up and it is this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002BU0DPE/ref=xs_gb_A3RERA00GA670L?_encoding=UTF8&pfRdReplace=1 Might get it, and if the other one is better at a good price, cancel the order and get that. In 3 and a half hours: "High-fidelity 5.1-/7.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound for PS3." Would that not include a mic and just be... headphones? Or? I don't get it. I Googled that phrase: would it be this? http://www.amazon.com/Force-Headset-Channel-Surround-Playstation-3/dp/B0042Y2F76 Yarg. Why would they have twooo options and you don't even know what the second one is. Edited January 18, 2011 by TheForgetfulBrain
TheForgetfulBrain
And, done. Got the first one, as I'm pretty sure the later option will just be the more expensive surround sound version which, eh, $55 on a good headset is really probably all I need. deanb
For future reference this is what I have. It's over ear, the boom swivels in that joint (took me a while to find that out though. Thought what I'd bought was useless as it had a mic level with my nose) It's a bit fiddly to turn on n off (but you soon get a knack for it). It's nice for folks who aren't keen on an in-ear solution. Also means you can stick earbuds in should you want to keep things a bit quiet. though it's a bit less comfortable then. Mal
Now I sort of want that headset too. I want one for PC too so... maybe. Can't say I can wait on this deal either.
TheForgetfulBrain
Did you spring for it? The 2:00 deal is gone now, as is the one I got. The 2:00 one was a ridiculously nice headset, but dropping fifty on one was enough as is, and $100, even discounted from $160 or whatever, is still too much. CorgiShinobi
Well, as far as Bluetooth goes, I thought the Sony PS3 headset received highly positive reviews. I mean, the thing is specifically designed for the machine. Right now I have a headset with a USB adapter and have yet to test it out. I guess no one wants to play together on LittleBigPlanet 2. :'(
deanb
-snip- What model is it? Or where can I get one? I've been looking for a good headset and that one looks like a good option, though it doesn't look "glasses friendly" http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/gaming/headsets/devices/3675 Logitech Cordless Vantage. I got mine in a sale for £15, but I think it usually sells for £35. And I wear glasses and don't find the headset an issue with them. Thursday Next
I use the Jabra BT 3030 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jabra-BT3030-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B000XSXZVU. Picked it because of the 3.5mm jack input so I can use / replace the headphones (my last headset died when the headphones snapped off), and the price. Not a huge fan of the dog-tag styling tbh, but it's fine when clipped on. It's also handy for my phone. If I've got a couple of mates round and we're playing battlefield or some such we normally set up the headset as the mic (sans headphones) and output audio through the AV unit, it's better than using the PS Eye since that tends to pick up too much background noise (I turn it up to 11 when I'm gaming). Hot Heart
I've got the official PS3 headset. Seems pretty good. Only problem is it doesn't seem to allow you to adjust the mic volume (doesn't help that I'm probably a bit quiet anyway). Also, because it's in-ear, it can get a bit uncomfortable after a while. FredEffinChopin
I picked this one up for $65 on a pre-order sale. I don't have anything else to compare it to, but for my first (simulated) surround headset experience I have to say it's downright delicious. I've only played Deus Ex and Bleach with them on so far, and only the former gave me a real chance to test the surround-muscle of the thing. It worked exactly as I expected, providing a solid sense of direction for all of the sounds in the game, and adding an overall sense of aural depth to the game, even when going in and out of menus. I certainly have much more real appreciation for the work that goes into the sound of the game now. I haven't gotten to try the mic outside of the XMB test, but if the quality in there was any indication then it sounds better than anything I've used before it, including the official bluetooth headset. On of my favorite features is the ability to mute without having some incessant beep repeatedly reminding me that I'm not being heard, as with every bluetooth headset I've tried (including the official one). It's lighter than it looks, fits very comfortably around the ear, and has easily accessible controls. A charge seems to last about 6 hours from my limited experience so far, and it charges via USB cable (not included). The only complaint I have about the physical design of it is the fact that the USB port is on the opposite side of the mic, so it can't be comfortably laid down flat on a surface. Minor complaint, but still silly. I don't know that I'd pay $100 for a headset, but it certainly was worth the $65 I paid.
