Yantelope
So who's gonna jailbreak their PS3? I probably will as soon as they let me install XBMC or something similar on it. It'd also be nice to be able to backup my games onto the HDD and not have to swap discs. I wonder just how many of those games actually use the capacity of the Blu-ray anyway. I may have to upgrade my HDD.
Mal
Can't say I want to risk my phat PS3 getting locked out... but maybe.
Rocket Lawnchair
Can't say I want to risk my phat PS3 getting locked out... but maybe. People are working on a way on not getting banned. since you can switch tittles ids. you can make all your homebrew apps/games say your playing lair or Leisure Suit Larry. making it hard to scan for homebrew apps/games. Right now im holding back, originally i was about to buy the usb dongle, glad i waited :3 I'm Waiting to see whats the best CFW to have. don't want to brick my ps3 because i changed my mind about the firmware
Yantelope
Yeah, I'm definitely waiting a bit until they've settled some of the kinks but I'm also not going to be updating my PS3 anymore for now. If it's anything like the hacked PSP though it'll be pretty awesome.
Mercurial
Personally I am gonna wait until the PS4.
deanb
I'd maybe jailbreak in the future, but it'd be like well into the future and comfortably into the PS4's life. Not fucking around with it now that's for sure.
SixTwoSixFour
Out. You guys can do what you want, but... it just doesn't feel right to me. There's the danger, too. And besides... an open-source, high power computing machine? Why gosh... that sounds like a COMPUTER. Which I have. So why aren't we just using that, again? PSP, I could understand, because it's portable, but this just seems silly to me.

I'm hopping it comes out for the ps3 or something similar to it. I rather have a ps3 in my living room than a computer that looks out of place. sure I could spend extra money and build a tiny computer and hide it within a stack of books or something, but why spend money if I already got something I can use? I hope a Torrent RSS downloaded comes out for the ps3. so my ps3 can download the newest episodes of my shows wile I'm away. :3 anyway it seems like your only hacking your psp just for pirating(I don't mean the high seas looting), so i guess you wouldn't understand much of the homebrew scene. Strangelove
Unless im into pirating i really dont see a reason to jailbreak it. The ps3 can play pretty much any video or audio file. I also still buy blurays. and most importantly, ive spent a lot of money on psn and have too many trophies to jeopardize my account. I like playing online without fear of getting caught doing shit. Im just not going to do it. its also my main console and im too lazy to wait for people to update and "beat" sony's firmware shit as they keep updating it. I was ok with that with the psp and wii, but i use my ps3 every single day. Fuck that noise. It feels like such an inconvenience.
staySICK
nah, I like having access to the PSN store. It was really funny when attack of the show had geohot on for a segment about the jailbreak and the legal matters. Kevin Pereira mentioned something about enabled piracy in the jailbreak during his intro, and geohot's like "uh, actually I specifically left out the necessary functions for piracy." Strangelove
Sony doesnt care if you personally pirate games or whether you even can. Their firmware updates are probably not going to exclude certain cfws. Im sure itll fuck up all cfws no matter what.

(first half of your post) Geohot only hacked the ps3 mainly because sony removed other OS feature from the ps3. his CFW right now is a proof of concept and he has no interest in piracy. staySICK
I know this, that' what my post said. He purposely left out functions that would have opened the door to piracy. I'm just confused why you quoted me when you said that.

staySICK
haha, no I was saying Kevin P from g4 stated that piracy was one of the things you could do through jailbreak, and geohot corrected him on it; which I thought was just super funny. TheMightyEthan
I'm waiting to see how it works out. I'd love to have XBMC on my PS3 so I can stream mkvs, but I don't want to risk losing access to PSN or Netflix on it either. If PS3's were cheaper I would consider buying another one just to jailbreak.

Yantelope
I was reading this today: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/17/ps3-hackers-make-modern-warfare-2-unplayable-infinity-ward-ca/ Makes me really glad I have these on XBL. Hard to predict something like that. Are you guys experiencing grievers in other games?
deanb
Nah, we're mostly just playing Uncharted 2, rather than something jerks like to play with. Though I do find it a bit odd that it's only MW2 that upto now has been a victim of this. Not like it's been unknown to have wiggle room for hacks n glitchers n such before.
