deanb
Discuss all things portal. Mainly making this to share news that Portal 2 will have cross-platform co-op between PC n PS3. http://pressxordie.c...e-pc-ps3-co-op/ But also to share this video
Zenia-chan
HUGE SUCCESS! +1 I like that video. XD
Strangelove
I havent read anything on portal 2, but i honestly cant see how theyre going to make it a full length game. Portal 1 was short and sweet. I wonder how theyll make portal 2 feel fresh for more than a handful of hours.
deanb
Yeah I am interested in how they'll expand the original Portal. Portal 2 is meant to be twice the length, with a portal length co-op campaign ontop. I think the new materials n such should help in expanding the gameplay a bit. But I'm also unsure if it'll needlessly increase the complexity too. Portal was on a nice level of skill and puzzle solving that you could play it "casually". I don't want to be having to work out string theory to be able to beat lvl 4. I think this one has more story elements to it. Portal had snippets here n there with the writings on the wall and what GLaDOS tells you. But quite a bit has been built up in out of game information and a small bit with Episode 2. I'll be picking up the game regardless, Portal was great and more of that is always good.
Mal
So, apparently you can get the Steam version of Portal 2 if you get the PS3 version when you link your PSN account with your Steam account. I have both so... might as well? I could get my brother to get it in NY and then work things out with him from CA...
Mister Jack
What's to stop people from buying the ps3 version, getting the PC one free, and then trading in the ps3 game?
deanb
I'd assume nothing. I am kind of wondering getting the PS3 version now. Just give it to my housemate and use the PC code myself.
Mal
They could maybe do a code check or something so that you can only get so much back but chances are slim for that.

Yeah, that's kinda the entire point now. PS3 users will be able to play and chat with PC users, and PS3 users will also have their settings saved in Steam Cloud. Valve WANTS people to play Portal together, so they're just tossing in free PC copies if you get the PS3 version.
Thursday Next
So pleased that Valve have performed a volte-face on the PS3. Orange Box was brilliant and awful in equal measure on the PS3 so it's going to be brilliant to see what Valve can do now that they are embracing the console. Also, having had my PS3 YLOD on me, the thought of all my saves living in the cloud is very appealing.

TheMightyEthan
I want the PC version. All of my IRL friends will also want the PC version. No one I know will want the PS3 version. So look at it this way: I could either 1) buy the PC version straight up, or 2) buy the PS3 version, use the code, sell the PS3 disc back to Gamestop, someone else can buy the "used" PS3 version for less than the new version, Valve still gets all the money they normally would have gotten from a new PS3 version sale, and I have the PC version and someone else has the PS3 version, which is exactly what Valve intends to happen anyway, and is why they're doing the promotion. I really don't see how that's morally questionable.
Mal
You could do that but in my case it would make sense that my older brother who is in NY get the PS3 version and then he gives me, in CA, the code so I can play on PC. He doesn't have a PC that can play any games so yeah. Also, he works at Gamestop. Heheh.
Strangelove
It doesnt work out that way. You buy the game new for 60 bucks, get the code, sell it back to gamestop for 35 bucks tops, then someone else buys it for 55. its not worth it for anyone but gamestop. TheMightyEthan
I know I don't get the full $60 back It still saves me money as long as the PC version is more than $25, and it still saves the other buyer $5.

Seriously though, I plan on buying the PS3 version, and maybe give the code to someone here or something.

deanb
See I'm unsure of how the tying would work though. Like if I gave my copy to my housemate and he wanted to go online would it need to be through my PSN account? Would in future if they did a similar promotion and say he has the PS3 copy tied to his account and the PC copy tied to mine, would we need to repeat that for L4D3? Doesn't much matter cos since I've last posted I've decided should all go well I'm buying the PS3 copy and keeping it for myself. That way I've got £30 portal 2 on PC with a cheap £10 PS3 copy that I can play when I'm off home or something and maybe lend to my housemate. deanb
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/32614/UserCreated_Portal_2_Content_Will_Be_Playable_On_All_Platforms.php The Mods will work on all platforms. Which is interesting news indeed. I assumed if it would work on consoles it'd be PS3 only. I guess the 360 version isn't totally pointless.
