Yeah Thursday that's pretty old trailer.

Anywho how to tell it's PAX and that Portal 2 is out in a month:

http://www.vg247.com/2011/03/14/wolpaw-players-dont-care-about-portals-chell/

Piece on how while most folks don't care for Chell or even really know who you play as, they are put off by Glados recognising you as a new character.

I'd imagine that's what lead to the new ending for Portal

(the video is just a trimmed co-op trailer)

As I kinda assumed (I guess others assumed differently) they're not planning to put in any forced memes. I hope folks won't put it as a bad mark if this doesn't spawn a new "cake is a lie".

Not gonna bother getting an article but J.K Simmons of J.Jonah.Jameson fame is playing Cave Johnson, the head of Aperture Science, and your kinda-glados guide for the testing stages.

Oh and there's this which I'm not watching:

First few minutes, couple of puzzles and some of J.K Simmons VA.

So I'm unsure if any of you heard but the past day or so has been a buzz with the news that Valve basically have decided they're not gonna use advertising agencies for Portal 2 as they find them pretty useless. So they're doing the ad's themselves.

Well about an hour or so ago the first one came out:

Considering my profession is going to be Advertising, I was dishearten when Valve came out and basically said, "Ad agencies are worthless because they're unoriginal and terrible."

Then again, I've always believed that creative works benefit more from in-house advertising, so it's about time they came around!

Nah, but really, when I heard the news, I began wondering how you could advertise the game. For the most part, those who are gamers know exactly who Valve is and have at least seen their work thanks to their previous efforts like Team Fortress 2's "Meet the..." Not to mention millions have at some point heard, "THE CAKE IS A LIE!" So, really, Valve barely needs advertising when it comes to their target audience.

The target market however, yeah, you could reel in a million or so more with a good television ad. Truthfully, Valve nailed it. In fact, I was thinking the same concept right before I watched their television ad. (What about two portals in a corner and running in a circle!) With advertising you've got to show the benefits, not a laundry list of features. With Portal 2, yeah, you could go on and on about all the new game mechanics, but what does that all boil down to?

Basically, in that television ad, and with (almost) no words, you know that you'll have a device that creates portals and with those portals the laws of physics are your tools to manipulate so as to progress through highly dangerous obstacles. That is what separates Portal from practically almost every video game.

I would say that the robots do have more marketability because, as far as I'm aware, have shown more character than the actual main character. I forget her name, but she kinda just exists to be your avatar. Not to mention there isn't a grand overarching storyline and GLaDOS provides most of the narrative.

So yeah, the robots definitely have the advantage.

Yeah was gonna ask: PS3/360 co-op = splitscreen?

Ummm... don't believe so. I'll let you know.

There's a few little tricks to help communicate without voice, but conveying "When I jump from here to here, you need to put a portal there... 3, 2, 1...NOW!" with pointing and gestures and bouncing on the spot is only going to lead to frustration. :D

EDIT: Split-screen on PC? Like with two mouses and two keyboardses? Probably not.

Pssst... You didn't hear it from me, but I've heard they're implementing USB gamepads that work with PCs. Just don't tip Kotaku or else everyone might find out.

Didn't occur to me to do that, I can't imagine playing something FPS-ish with a controller when there's a Mouse and Keyboard option. Still don't think it's on the cards.

You don't have much of an imagination.

I started playing Portal again last night. Unfortunately, it didn't give me my completed save file when I reinstalled so I have to play through all of the game again to get to the Advanced levels I wanted to play through but never had.

As for Portal 2, the idea of getting stuck in a co-op game with a person using a gamepad is scary. I'll definitely be only doing co-op with people I know have the game on PC (and don't use a gamepad for FPS games).
