I'd say cos for the most part all it does is get rid of sentries, pretty OP yet very niche ability. Whereas things like the Funnel do pretty much the same job and with more diversity.
But then I know better.

Also they did get rid of chunks of the crushers. They're almost everywhere in the pre-release trailers.

So some little snippet:

Caroline means "Free man". Cave Johnson n Caroline [surname unknown] were around n about late 40s-early 80s. Gordon was born in the 70's. (to be late 20's in time for HL1)

I learned this last night, though it's (highly) likely that it is...

a reference. I wouldn't go as far as saying Gordon Freeman is the seed of Cave Johnson, by way of Caroline. Sure it's the same universe, but I feel like it's something that's meant to tie the two games together.

EDIT: Also, I very much like Portal 2's end credits song more than Still Alive. While Still Alive is catchy, and even iconic, the new one (whatever the title) feels like an actual song.

requesting MP3 of this.

Tiller (of steamchat) pointed out out another cross over tidbit:

There's lots of evidence of Combine at the end.

It's why the fields are so trim n straight

So, does anyone else think that

The ending leaves very little room for a Portal 3?

Yes, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing as long as they continue to support Portal 2 as much as they have their other games.

Plus all the references might suggest Valve is moving in an Episode 3 (or at least Half Life) direction, which is surely good news right?

I think

That it leaves a large amount of room for Half Life 3. People have being pointing out that despite it being hinted at that it's been 200 or so years, much of the facility is largely in tact for being that old. Like potatoes, furniture etc. "9999 days" reported at the start means at the very least it has been 27 years. Which is in a much more closer time range. Thing is that puts it within time range of Half Life 2 (Glados turning on and Resonance Cascade are by official cannon within days of each other. The two facilities are effectively destroyed at the same time. So no signs of celebration at Aperture, and no questioning from Black Mesa). HL2 happens many years after this when Gordon is put in stasis. If Portal was to take not long after Half Life it means that the two sequel games could effectively be around the same time too. Easter egg or not there's headcrabs in the pipe system. Episode 3 at the very least is going to have quite a bit more Aperture Science back story, even if not a straight up cross over. The Borealis certainly had nothing to do with Take-a-wish or reverse hiemlich.

Anyway even without Chell the co-op campaign opens up the chance for Portal 3. I'm just somewhat unsure how far they can drag it out. Very limited cast and mechanics. Also the ending could be in VR, she might have just been put in another relaxation chamber. You do get knocked out after all.

p.s the combine thing is a joke. combine harvester.

Honestly? I'm fine with it all ending right here. The ending was fairly conclusive - Chell walked free, and even had the Companion Cube back. GLaDOS had P-Body, Atlas, and thousands of humans to continue her tests. Everyone is happy.

Well, except Wheatley.

About plans for Portal 3...

I don't know if Portal and Half-Life could have a serious crossover, even for a segment of Half-Life 3, or what have you. They're different styles, though it would be quite the experience for Freeman to meet GLaDOS. Perhaps, to prove himself, he has to complete a few tests to borrow some tech.

Of course, maybe Chell could make it into Half-life. I don't know if the Half-life crew would have to make a venture to the labs, thanks to Chell's knowledge. Still, this is all assuming Chell hasn't been thrown that far into the future.

I would really love another Portal game. This was such an "enriching" experience.

You know what, I would buy a GLaDOS

plush potato, which has a speaker box with some quotes.

EDIT:

Okay this one is fairly spoilerific even for folks who've played:

Chellproject.png

So yeah I think that answers how Chell became a test subject. Bring your daughter to work day...

I think this is more of a confirmation of...

What exactly Chell was in her lifetime. GLaDOS was activated on Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, and almost immediately GLaDOS locked the facility. Thereby, every employee and little girl were trapped.

I think, if anything, while the activation of GLaDOS happened near the events of Half-Life, the actual storyline of Portal happened at least over a decade or so.

Where'd you get yours? I used some youtube ripper and since firefox has a god awful extension system it took a few tries to get one that actually rips the music n isn't just a link to a page that want's to sell me stuff. So I settled with the first thing that ripped stuff (I reckon youtube doesn't go much higher in the quality anyway)

Reading "The Final Hours of Portal 2",

Johnathan Coulton's intent with "Want you Gone" was to write a song on how GlaDOS was basically breaking up with the mute girl she loved. In fact, if you look at some of the earlier design documents, there were some cut segments that would show more of the "jealous girlfriend" side of GlaDOS. One scene in particular would have you walking in on a candlelit table with a steak. As you approach the steak, you realize it's cold, and GlaDOS claims it's because you were out so long with someone else (there were originally more personality spheres planned, and hanging out with them would make GlaDOS jealous).

There's tons of juicy tidbits in that article, including dashed plans for a prequel called "F-Stop" and behind-the-scenes information on the cast and crew that made the game.

Does it mention what happened to the uhh vents that were shown a while back?

We already talked some about that. http://board.pressxordie.com/topic/579-portal/page__view__findpost__p__48160 ;)

Though I would also be interested to see if there's more information in that App.

Nope, but it does mention several things that were cut, and several small projects Valve worked on that found their way into Portal 2. For example, it talks about a small game designed by a team lead by Erik Wolpaw that directly inspired the co-operative mode. Also, a certain character and his love of space came from an ad about a goldfish wanting to visit an aquarium.

One of the more interesting stories talked about the original plans for Cave Johnson that fell by the wayside. Originally, he was going to be a much more important character, and a direct antagonist to the player. The story would be focused on the dehumanization he experienced by transferring himself into an artificial intelligence, and turning the robots of Aperture against you.

I converted and tagged from a high-quality .wav file I got from here -- http://www.mediafire.com/?mgme66s119nu5e5

And yeah, Youtube generally rapes audio on videos that only go up to 360p or 480p; if you ever want some help finding music just give me a shout, I've spent the better 8 years of my life being a music-hunter XD
