Eleven
http://www.bbc.co.uk...health-20898940 UK guy has had a hand transplant. It has been done before (though the US dude stopped taking his meds and surprise surprise ended up with no hand again). I'm not sure the operation is worth it. A lifetime of hand-related puns, and constantly being aware your hand has scratched someone else's butt, has wanked someone else's cock, picked someone else's nose. It's the very epitome of "you don't even know where it's been". I saw an episode of Criminal Minds where they did this (they replaced the leg though). It was gross. I didn't even think it was possible.
CorgiShinobi
I'm sure if you were on Reddit today you saw this, but for certainty... Tablet with lumpy keyboard, a.k.a. instant physical buttons.
TheMightyEthan
I think they showed that off at last year's CES too. I definitely remember seeing it a while ago.
deanb
Yeah thats a bit old, I guess no one invested into the tech last time due to the issues of it only working on like iPhone keyboards(since they're always going to be the same one). It's actually from a fair bit older now I think of it cos I was diving around on past rumours n shiz last night and it cropped up as a rumour for the tech in the "Project Cafe" touch-screen controller. deanb
Article from this year? (well this day even). Fecal transplant has been a thing for a while, such as for IBS and other illnesses of the gut n colon. It's like Actimel, but human-made Actimel and you don't drink it. Anyway given the things some folks will stick up your butt don't you think shit is the most logical?

Thursday Next
I have never heard of this. What are we talking here? Couple of cells? A nugget? The whole turd? I can understand there being some revulsion to get over with most folk. Also, a plethora of "taking shit from other people" jokes.
deanb
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fecal_bacteriotherapy#Description_of_procedure IT seems, as best I can read from the lingo, to be a enema of mainly the bacteria from the poo. TheFlyingGerbil
I do like Nokia. They seem to try hard to innovate. I hope they manage to survive not too changed.
deanb
http://singularityhub.com/2013/01/22/robot-serves-up-340-hamburgers-per-hour/ http://momentummachines.com/#product Machine that can make 360 gourmet burgers an hour. I'll add in gourmet cos when I first heard of machine that'll do 360 burgers an hour I assumed just something that flipped a few burgers, maybe put it in a bun and it was done, not make an entire pub quality burger. You don't seem to get the skewer in the top, but robots can't do everything.
TheFlyingGerbil
I hate toothpicks in my burgers. If it's so tall it needs holding together it's not going to be easy to eat.
TheMightyEthan
The robot seems more designed for fast food places like McDonald's anyway, not the kind of places that would put a toothpick in the burger.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I hate toothpicks in my burgers. If it's so tall it needs holding together it's not going to be easy to eat. That's why you keep the toothpick in and just move it around as you eat.
deanb
http://youtu.be/v1uyQZNg2vE I guess it means if you lead an exciting life then it'll be exciting to have. Though head mounted cameras already exist so for a large part it's kinda superseded by existing tech. I guess the only major bonus is the googling and messaging. Oh and http://www.google.com/glass/start/how-to-get-one/
TheMightyEthan
Well one immediate advantage that strikes me is the fact that it's less bulky than current head-/helmet-mounted cameras. Though yeah, the selling point I think is supposed to be that it's a wearable computer that basically gives you a constant HUD.
deanb
The bulkiness is just advancement of tech, they can be less bulky too. They choose not to due to cost, and most of them are used in extreme sports where a pair of glasses aren't ideal over something in a strong rubberised casing. TheFlyingGerbil
wow, applications are 50 words or less and 15s video clips. could have it's own post in this thread.
BrainHurtBoy...2
It's lazy advertising to use a song like that in a commercial. They're emotionally manipulative and make everything in the ad feel slimy and corporate. On its "utility": It's a real-life, minimalistic HUD. Why on Earth wouldn't you want it?? It's enthralling and horrifying at the same time.
Mal
I just want a HUD that can be useful. The kinds I'm thinking of is years in the future (Or perhaps the military has one already). I want one that can... Range find. Give not only GPS coordinates for pictures and videos but can give my orientation. A simple overlay of magnetic north would suffice. Have a glasses integration/attachment Future tech...
Faiblesse Des Sens
Usefulness is like a smartphone I guess. If you don't feel the need to share everything, look up directions instantly, take pictures easily, etc, then it won't be useful for you.
TheFlyingGerbil
I know this isn't tech, but I have a science question and I guess this is the best place. If an asteroid is travelling through a vacuum why does it leave a trail? wouldn't the be created by friction pulling bits off?
Mal
Asteroids shouldn't have tails (There are a few that can though) but going off comets... expanding/escaping gases would be able to propel dust and such off the surface to make a tail. The asteroids you're talking about are in the weird phase between a vanilla asteroid and a full fledged comet (I think), so it poses enough frozen gases that sublimate when heated by the sun. Correct me if I am wrong.
