Thursday Next
@Slithy: Yup agreed on the weapon system. Not "hard" in the "difficult to achieve" sense (though farming traps was a ball-ache), more utterly impenetrable in a "how do I even start?" sense. Oh another annoying thing about 13. Every time you get an item in your inventory that you had previously used up it labels it as "new". I hate "new" tags on menus. They vex me. I have to eliminate them. That they pop up again because I sold, refined or whatever my last potion and then stumbled upon one is irritating.
slithy toves
hahaha, i'm anal about the "new" tags too. every time i get something new in a game that has those on the menus i always have to go and open everything to get rid of them. they seriously bother me. @aquaman, i agree that in XIII gran pulse got kind of lame before it should have. i think in XIII-2, though, there is a lot of potential. you have unexplored ruins, new people to settle into old or new towns. i feel like they can successfully have it be the same world and at the same time still new as well. that is, if they do it right. .... that "top only" armor is kind of scary, tbh
Thursday Next
I agree with what someone else said about an "Epilogue" I'd love an epilogue mode in rpg's so you can see the results of your climactic struggle. It would have been great to have travelled round Gran Pulse settlements the excuses for sidequests there would be numerous "we've moved into an area and need to get rid of all of X creature.", "I'm building a thing and need you to get some stuff.", and it could all go towards getting uber items to take on some great big creature looming over Gran Pulse. It would also lend itself to DLC, you could sell an entire town with some quests a la Fallout.
slithy toves
there are RPGs w/ epilogue mode. lunar 2 comes to mind. i can't recall any others at the moment, but it's a pretty awesome feature and it doesn't even really take away the possibility for sequels because the epilogue part is usually just right after stuff happened. sequels can be months / years later. Yantelope
Yeah, that's my main gripe with most RPGs is that there was no epiloge to a lot of them. FFVI and FFVII both could have used a little more denouement.
slithy toves
and when your optional bosses are so much harder than your game boss (ruby weapon i'm looking at you) it really makes more sense to be able to finish the game while it's still a challenge and then go around in epilogue mode and do all the other stuff. Thursday Next
Yup, same with FFX, after doing all the monster hunts and dark aeons, the final boss was a total breeze. It would also be nice to bask in the glory of having just saved the town / world / universe / existence (depending on your FF).
Toshi
I can't see a Final Fantasy without magic, so how would XIII-2 work considering their magic is gone with the her not being a l'cie anymore?
Thursday Next
There's still Fal Cie about no? Or they could have "residual magic powers" or some such..?
slithy toves
yeah, there are still fal cie around on gran pulse.
Toshi
So she gets a new focus?
slithy toves
maybe. maybe that's what the dashing stranger is all about. they have opposing focuses but they're in wuv.
staySICK
I need to play more FFXIII, but I really didn't mind it... to me it seemed quite similar to FFX in game elements (long linear segment leading to more open world) I'm interested in seeing what FFXIII-2 would do. More importantly, I'd like to see FFXIII Versus.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Did you not see the leaked trailer?
SixTwoSixFour
Did you not see the leaked trailer? Not sure if you mean the XIII-2 trailer or the XIII Versus trailer, but I just watched both, so I'll comment on both =P The XIII-2 trailer was, predictably, short on information, but I like the idea of Lightning not doing the traditional epilogue hero thing- that is, hanging up the sword and settling down. That's just not her style, she'd find something else to fight for. And it would seem she has. (XIII-2 trailer linked in spoiler tags- warning, pretty loud, adjust your volume) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvZFmOhnA1s XIII Versus... now, THAT was interesting. It was definitely not what I expected... and I'm not sure what to make of it. I mean, I like it. I like it a lot. But... it seems... weird, to me. It almost seems like they are taking a real world setting, and suddenly plunging it into magic and monsters. I hate it when fiction does that. It's also possible, of course, that it's just a fantasy world that has a lot of the trappings of our modern world, and that would actually be really cool. I guess we'll have to find out more. Still... gameplay. FINALLY. And it looks pretty solid. Wonderful. Fucking. News. Maybe it will actually come out. (XIII Versus trailer linked in spoiler tags- also pretty fuckin' loud. This uploader just fucks with the sound equalization, I guess.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqWBd6J_k2c Edited for multiple code failures, I am stupid. Yantelope
Isn't Final Fantasy quickly turning into Sonic the Hedgehog? I mean, the fans keep getting super excited about the new game and it's always a huge letdown but the next one, oh the next one will be a return to glory. Versus XIII is probably not going to be any better than Vanilla XIII
slithy toves
i didn't find xiii to be that much of a letdown. i thought it could have been better, but i didn't think it was an inherently bad game.
Yantelope
well, there are some people who liked XIII and you might enjoy Versus but to to believe that for some reason Versus is going to be a vastly superior product seems unusual to me. I mean, the fans keep getting super excited about the new game and it's always a huge letdown but the next one, oh the next one will be a return to glory. Versus XIII is probably not going to be any better than Vanilla XIII Except fans of this series are being disappointed by the new games simply because they're impossible to please (partially due to the insane amount of hype they build up and partially due to changes in the series) not because the games suck like most of sonics in the last decade. Anyways, 6264, I was talking about FFv13. Similar views but I didn't think the monsters looked too out of place. Personally, I thought the massive amounts of explosions did! Not used to that from this developer.

The reason we believe that is that Versus has had way more dev time, and is being made by a better team. It's the Kingdom Hearts team, they know their shit. I fully expect Versus to be a much better game.

They're always getting de-railed, re-done, etc. Anyways, my reasons for thinking FFv13 will be better are this: Nomura's intentions with the game (he wants it to be dark and more "human" in its themes) Kingdom Hearts-esque battle system Open world Good looking setting so far Realistic looking characters (holy shit real clothes!) The only thing I'm worried about is the story. How much is known?
