They could take a page out of the Chappelle Show and do "Ask A Black Person" for hints when you get stuck!

Mal
I just took a second look at the soundtrack... and I spy Origa on vocals for a few songs. Something they did right! Maybe I'm an Origa whore but... this is good. Can't say I ever hated a soundtrack.
deanb
No one else grabbed the demo? I didn't play all the way through, but the changes I saw I liked. The battle system is much the same, paradigm shifts n such so if you disliked the battle system of XIII stay away. The improvements are an addition of towns, with people you can actually talk to. There's also side missions too, bit more in depth (though not hugely so) than the ce'ith stones in Gran Pulse. You also capture and use fiends in battle, unsure if it's just to bulk up parties when there's only 2 (you control Noel n Sera) or if you can have a full party of 4. They're kinda handy to use, like I had a Medic(creatures are tied to particular roles) Cait Sith, while your main dudes deal the damage. You can level them up much the same way as weapons in the first. They've revamped the Crystarium, I don't completely understand it to explain it, but it's one branch and each node in the branch you choose which role to level up. Rather than the first game you had like 8 branches for the characters for each different role. Oh n QTEs, but they seem limited to boss fights only. The whole time thing and anomalies n paradoxes seems pretty cool, worth going for the story I think. If you weren't absolutely and utterly put off by XIII I'd say at the very least rent this. If you hated the battle system, it's the same so you won't like it at all. Everyone else can probably just skip I guess.
TCP
I grabbed the demo, I thought about doing a status update about how awesome it is but I knew people would laugh at me and hurt my feelings But it was really good, I love that battle system, the QTE events were nice. The dialogue options were great, the side quests were fun and refreshing and the level design was great. I am excited! Does anyone know if the Ezio costume is coming to North America PS3? Enervation
I got the demo the day it released. I've never played a Final Fantasy game before, so the combat system was pretty fun to me.

Eleven
Lol. I refuse the believe even 1 of those is true. It is simply not possible for them to fuck up so badly after everything they did, and then heard, with FF XIII. Also, 20 FPS? What? Did the first game run with 20 FPS? There is no reason for this to run with that low FPS when the first one didn't. Also, there is the demo out already, it would have made headlines. Hot Heart
http://www.eurogamer...2-demo-analysis In the demo at least, basic traversal and combat seems to be very close to a locked 30 frames per second on both platforms but this selection of action - taken from the beginning of the demo - clearly presents challenges to both consoles. toxicitizen
Yeah the 20 FPS thing seemed a bit odd. But everything else? I wasn't going to get this at launch anyway (haven't even downloaded the demo yet) and I actually liked XIII despite all its flaws. But I really don't think SE are above screwing up even further at this point. A large segment of the japanese games industry has felt very out of touch this gen, and SE have definitely been among the worsts so far. TCP
20 FPS? I'll believe it when I see it. In fact, since the game has been out for weeks now in Japan, if it's true we would have heard more about this. But even if it is, hey Skyrim was GOTY for 2011 and would go down to 0 FPS after you played it for 30 - 60 minutes.... Anyways, the biggest mistake Square Enix is doing, that I can see, is how open they're talking about DLC. You're going to be able to have Lightning join your party, and there will be a story mode, but it'll be DLC. Sahz and his son will be in DLC. In fact, apparently the game's story mode will be resolved in DLC. I have no problem with DLC at all, but I think they need to be tactful, because right now it just looks like they're not putting things on the disc (or worse, just not unlocking it) and are going to make us pay after. Eleven
Bought the game today. It's in my bag. Haven't bothered to bring it out though. Too addicted to DCUO at the moment. I'm gonna try really hard on the weekend to play this. It's gonna be fun!

FredEffinChopin
I'm about 2 hours in. It's going pretty well so far, though I have some complaints (mostly about inappropriate use of music). This game does something that I've never seen a game do before though... "Final Fantasy XIII-2: The story so far" Is this old news and I'm the only one who didn't know about it? For those of you who are scratching your heads, when you boot your savegame file, you're basically treated to a sort of "scenes from the last episode" montage that brushes through major events. Such a simple idea that I can't believe has ever been incorporated into a game before this. I hope this becomes the norm for games that have long and (arguably) complex narratives. deanb
Final Fantasy XIII does it. As you load the game up you get a nice backdrop (for the last dozen+ hours of the game it's been Gran Pulse for me) with a scrolling bit of text, normally the latest segment from the diary of the datalog. Pokemon also does it, but as it's not got much story it's kinda like "Dean Capture Todadile on Route 42" "Dean defeated Rocket Grunts Tim and Ashley" for a few pages. I do think it's a really neat segment. Oh I think, though not played for a while, that Witcher 2 does it as well.
FredEffinChopin
Yeah, but... Pictures!!! Seriously though, I'm very impressed with the presentation of it. Perhaps it's just the fact that it so closely resembles a TV show, but I'm find it very satisfying to sit through. It's definitely a step beyond the text recap. Credit to Witcher 2 if they did in fact beat them to the punch on this. Here is a video someone put up of it. It obviously contains . Thursday Next
Hmmm, hope my collectors edition dispatches today. The product is kicking up an error now, which I'm hoping just means they're not taking new orders on it... and not that their imminent collapse has led to the product disappearing. http://www.game.co.uk/en/final-fantasy-xiii-2-limited-collectors-edition-155053
FredEffinChopin
Wow, I hadn't even caught that. I'm glad I didn't choose to have that one backup online. On an actual game note, this is such a departure from the general structure of XIII's world that it almost has the feel of a scorned artist's work. Indignant. I very well may be reading into it a bit, but everything is loaded. I'm accumulating pets at a rapid rate, as well as items to level them, xp for my characters, areas to explore, and missions to take on. "Here, this is what you wanted, right?!" I might not be so willing to give into that suspicion if not for the vocal-heavy music in here. That has to be an act of spite and/or revenge. And an effective one. It wouldn't hurt so bad if the music being crapped on by the vocals wasn't so damned good.
Strangelove
On a features level, FF13-2 is impressive. I havent played a jrpg with this much stuff crammed into it in years. They really put a lot of work into it and unlike FFX-2, hardly anything from the previous game was reused. I guess developing the Crystal engine was what made FF13 take so long to come out. It just has a sheen to it, its quality. The graphics actually look better too and fuck the haters, but i like the music. Its better than FF12 and 13's right off the bat. Its actually memorable. Ive also personally have never seen it go below 30fps on the PS3, and Im a stickler about that. Its weird, but Japan has impressed me. Its been a while. I still have the same complaint though - its hardly ever connected to FF13. At least not in a truly meaningful way. They could have changed a few characters and the game would have worked as FF15. It definitely stands on it's own.
