I actually really enjoyed TDKR on my first viewing. But maybe it was just the excitement of seeing what happens after TDK because on second viewing I noticed all the problems everyone else had. Maybe I'd like it again if I watched it a third time..... It just felt way more of a sequel to Batman Begins than TDK, which maybe was an easier way to go but it just reminded me how average Batman Begins was compared to The Dark Knight.

TDKR left me cold. I adore the first two in the Nolan films, but TDKR is a hot mess of poor storytelling and plot holes. Also Batman appears to turn into some sort of super soldier who for whatever reason isn't taken down immediately by a well placed sniper shot from someone on top of a building. Thats not to say i didn't enjoy it; but its a long way behind Begins and Dark Knight for me.

Even Marion Cottilard coulnd't make it better for me.

Assuming it's a MoS sequel (which is what I think it is), as I've said in the status post and on twitter I can see it being a Superman vs Batman type thing*, such as Dark Knight Returns Ethan posted above. Especially going off the end of MoS

where he crash lands the spy satellite and tells general to deal with it.

. Batman is the anti-thesis to the idea of Superman. An alien being that is akin to a god directing the flow of humanity, versus a regular guy (with lots and lots of money) with a grudge beating the shit out of bad guys. Batman has generally not been keen on Superman, or most of JLAs, unaccountability. His resentment at being one of the few non-powered members(or non-members) of course has nothing to do with it.

*in so far as they oppose each other. The direct confrontations between them are rare and usually outside of main canon, but even in-canon Batman wanders around with kryptonite in his utility belt. Which Lex Luthor is only other guy to do that. Incidentally given the scale MoS goes to, including Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, aka of Wayne Industries, a competitor/sometimes partner of Luthorcorp into this film is about the only way you'd be able to make Lex believable in MoS universe.

Well, I wasn't really paying attention to the news about it, but I did see the quote from Dark Knight Returns used somewhere.

I want you to remember, Clark... in all the years to come... in your most private moments... I want you to remember my hand... at your throat... I want you to remember... The one man who beat you...

I'd be a little more excited if it is some antagonistic relationship like that.

EDIT: Ah, there we go. So, yeah, expect Batman vs. Superman.

This sounds like such a bad idea. If you can make a good Batman/Superman comic book AND a good cartoon, Id figure theyd be able to make a good movie too, but I just dont feel right about this. Feels wrong and awkward.

Unless it gets a shitload of high marks and recommendations from friends or this forum, Im going to completely ignore it. And honestly after this Batman trilogy, if this is "good if you like action movies", Im ignoring it.

And yes, mostly cus I hate that butthole Superman.

Im not sure why I felt like rewatching TDKR, but Robin and Talia kind of ruin the movie. All their parts are super boring, it feels like thats half the movie alone. Not to mention I dont give a shit about Joseph Gordon Levitt or Marion Cotillard. Theyre not very talented. They should have taken their characters out of the movie, would have been awesome.

Say what you will about Levitt (who i think is a perfectly watchable actor); Cotillard is far from talentless. They were given very limited roles in TDKR and its probably not fair to judge them on those roles alone.

Cotillard for example has an Oscar under her belt, and blew people away in Rust and Bone which was out mere weeks after TDKR arrived last summer.

*i'm a bit of a Cotillard fan, but regardless, to say they're not very talented is downright wrong in my opinion.

Haha, I noticed that too. Her eyes kind of flickered for a moment, then they completely shut. I was way more convinced she was dead seconds BEFORE she did that.

And I just thought so much time was wasted on Blake. He just runs around aimlessly for the entire movie, not really doing anything. He finds Gordon, but doesnt save him at the hospital, does his obligatory "im just like you, Batman" speech, DOESNT save the police from being trapped in the sewers because he was too late, when its time to save the cops he throws the bomb, but Batman sets it off, and the bus full of children? A waste. A completely waste of time. It was also kind of lame how they revealed his name to be Robin at the end. It felt bad. Him also discovering the batcave took like 5 minutes too much. I shut off the movie once The Bat blows up. I got all the enjoyment from it i was going to get.

Goddammit, he was useless.

But I will take back him being talentless, he was fantastic in 50/50.

It was also kind of lame how they revealed his name to be Robin at the end.

That scene would have been three trillion times better if they'd revealed his name to be Dick Grayson. As is it's just awful.

I don't think that would have hit home with the mainstream audience as well though. Sure, nerds would have loved it but the average film goer would have been left pretty confused.

OMG ROBIN WHO KNEW!

Fucking mainstream audiences suck.

Im with Wally on this. Most movies don't shy away from these kinds of references, and even if the mainstream couldn't get it, there is always the internet. I mean it wasn't an integral plot point, more of a nod to the character. Its like the post credits of Thor or Avengers, mainstream audiences don't understand those references, but that didn't stop them from including the endings in a vague way.

The introduction to the cosmic cube and Thanos!

I even think it would have been equally as secretive if Blake never had the false name and just went by the name Rich, or Richard. People who would have made the connection did so already in the film.
