WTF = Chris Nolan :o!?

(no sarcasm/negativity intended here)

lol. No.

Actually I work in the industry and have a lot of very well placed friends. Any film that Nolan does is pretty easy to source info since some of my close acquaintances from the British Film Industry are involved in his productions. He likes to keep the same staff. Also one of his go to post pro houses is D-Neg and I know a few people working there.

Speaking of D-Neg and not trying to derail what's the view on the John Carter trailer since I've been aware of the post pro on it for quite a while now (it's much more FX intensive and is set for Spring 2012, early Spring most likely).

Yeah I figured as much, well nice to hear that the movie is coming along nicely. In Nolan I trust he hasn't disappointed me yet and I don't think he will.

I just saw the trailer for John Carter today, looks pretty bad ass. It does indeed look very very sfx-heavy and in a post-Avatar world people might just dig it. It isn't as colorful though which might be a knock against it, and the established IP isn't known by many at all. It's a sad state of affairs when even as a geek you look at blockbuster movies and hope it somehow satisfies the fickle masses without being dumbed down.

I'd actually figured you worked in the industry from a few of your previous posts, WTF. That's pretty cool. If I can't make it into the computer science program I'm hoping to get into, then I think my second choice will be film studies.

As for John Carter, is the trailer online? I've been looking forward to that one for a while.

Is it still being made by Pixar?

Funny enough FLD. I started out with a computer science and engineering degree before switching to advertising straight out of uni (the first time) and eventually ended up working in broadcast and film. I will say that try to get into working on edit software (make sure you learn to grade (colour correct as to suit the tone/mood of the film) on your own, pays ridiculously well) and as many different types of cameras as possible. Cheaper DSLRs such as the 550D/T2i (it's cheap but it's something to begin with and it is similar to the 7D but not quite as good. But cheap) are great to begin with these days and cheaper too compared to buying proper equipment.

Anything is possible, if you set your mind to it :).

On topic. yeah the batcopter sequences are quite stunning I must say. I've seen a few takes. Can't say if those are in the final since it's the second crew. However it's still early and plans for post-pro can change but Nolan is usually good with time. As for John Carter, it's being done ok and well visually it's still not finished. Lots of work left but they're running on a tight schedule now.

I wouldn't call it a trailer as much as a teaser, but yes that's been done for a fair bit now and should be online once HP cools a little bit. They want more people to watch HP which is the reason for adding the trailer to it of course.

Isn't it kind of weird, how some people go watch a movie just to see the trailer?

It's kind of like the people who watch a movie just because "such-and-such actor/actress is hot".

It's normal these days. It's like people who go to conventions just to hear about one particular film or comic. Companies know that fans can do the PR themselves and they can make money in the process. It's a thing now and helps reduce the budget.

I was considering buying tickets to the 3D version of "Cars 2" because I knew they would be premiering the trailer for "Brave" there, and I wasn't sure if Disney was going to hold the trailer hostage for months on end.

Well the teaser is finally available for all to see, except not in HD yet. Doesn't give you much but it does seem exciting. Bane looks pretty cool, and the movie seems to be promising a pretty bumpy ride for batman's last movie. It will be very very difficult to top Dark Knight, but honestly it doesn't have to.

Does seem that way, although he might have suspected it. I was thinking maybe Wayne appeared in front of him in the suit (considering we don't see how he looks), but he does seem to be speaking in his normal voice instead of the usual growl. When Gordon says "evil rising" I assume that's Bane climbing there? It's sorta funny that he ignores the rope right beside him and seems to be climbing with his bare hands. Also I wonder who that person is in the background in the last shot. Bats seems to be getting beaten up pretty badly. And compared to the embedded trailers I saw earlier, with this I can actually see that Batman's suit is wet due to what is probably rain from the sounds of it.

Thanks for the link, I also found that the trailer was in "HD" on the official Facebook page. This is in better quality though.

Man, that was awesome :D

I can't wait for a proper trailer, now!

I'm really digging how ominous this is.

Considering that the villain is Bane, I'm thinking Bats is going to take quite a bit of damage.

It's kinda weird how they're calling it the conclusion, though. I mean, I realize this is supposed to be Nolan's last batfilm, but conclusion sort of implies... I don't know, closure, I guess? I can't imagine how they could possibly give a definitive ending to something like Batman.

Also, I still think it kinda sucks that they never used the riddler. :(

Would've loved to see the Nolanverse's take on that character.

Yeah I would have loved to see The Riddler too. It is a bit amusing that they're calling it the "conclusion", how long has Bruce Wayne even been Batman at this stage? 2 years maybe?

I wonder if the chanting gives away something new or if it's the same twitter tag.

Yeah, there's no growly voice plus I figure he wouldn't be talking about whether Batman still existed or not if he were standing right there in a batsuit.

Funny you should mention that climbing thing. At first, I dismissed it as when Bruce is exploring the caves beneath Wayne Manor in Begins but I don't think it is that. And very odd that there is a rope they are ignoring. Maybe it's been missed in post-production. :P

Whoever is in the background at the end looks like they are holding a gun that's for sure.

And I could see the films 'ending'. It seems they set out the arc for 'Bruce cleans up Gotham' and he was working towards that with Harvey in TDK. That way he could finally hang up the batsuit...possibly realising that it has been attracting weirdos now. Which I'm pretty sure is an idea that was explored in the comics.

Yeah you might be right there... although the comics can allow this battle/struggle Bruce goes through to be an epic drawn out war... the movies can do the interesting thing of condensing the hero's journey and ending it all, and so soon. It does remove the quality the comic book character has, but then again its more realistic this way, it doesnt really add up for batman to have That many stories and battles fought xD.

They just mean the conclusion of Nolan's Batman trilogy. They've already discussed how they want to take the next film in a new direction:

We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman…” says Robinov. “Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.
http://collider.com/batman-reboot-warner-bros-christopher-nolan-producer/83025/

I'm hoping that they simply mean the next film will have it's own distinctive 'feel' and interpretation of the character, but follow on from where the Nolan films left off (or jump ahead in Batman's career even) much in the way that the comics follow on from each other, despite different artists and writers taking the characters in different directions.
