Thursday Next
Nooooo! Why would he do such a thing? Does that mean that Joffrey will have Batman beheaded at the end of Dark Knight Rises?

Strangelove
http://gawker.com/5915361/new-dark-knight-rises-footage-premieres-at-the-mtv-movie-awards This is the ONLY good DKR trailer Ive seen. The rest have been terrible. Its hard to get excited for a movie when a trailer is always just a teaser. This is finally a proper trailer that shows cool shit going on and makes you want to see more of it.
Hot Heart
Looking good, though it's odd to see so much Batman stuff in daylight. Also noticed that giant 'smacking' sound when Anne Hathaway unpursed her lips at the end. Not sure what that says about me...

TheMightyEthan
I was under the impression the British had evolved extendable umbrellas in their arms, kind of like Wolverine but less stabby.

I read that n thought "well that's what I wrote..". Scrolled up, turns out in the end I didn't. (it's where I had started with the whole "It's in his genes. Same way Wolverine has claws come out his fists, we have brollys")
TheMightyEthan
According to Daily Show Senior British Corespondent John Oliver in London it rains 363 days a year, and it's actually also raining the other two days, you just can't tell because it can't penetrate the layer of dense fog covering the city. danielpholt
Thats pretty awesome. Will he be selling those? I'd definitely be interested in getting it on a canvas. So here was my The Dark Knight Rises Advanced Preview story. Turned up with my entry voucher in hand (not in my name, but i had a letter of authorisation from the person who'm won the voucher). She is always giving out tickets to advanced previews so there shouldn't have been a problem... There was. Long story short. They wouldn't let me in to see the film (unless there was a spare seat). It was a 2 hour wait to see if maybe they could let me in, so i decided to cut my losses and get the bus back. All in all i was in the lobby for 15 minutes, and on the bus to and from said lobby for 80 minutes. Disappointed is not the word. Still, i'm seeing it on Tuesday morning and this Saturday afternoon. Hot Heart
Thats pretty awesome. Will he be selling those? I'd definitely be interested in getting it on a canvas. Unfortunately not. I'm not sure it would be legal to. Here's a link to his blog where there's a poster version as well. Could see if he has a larger version for printing yourself. Hot Heart
OK, so he's printed some and will send them out provided you pay the p&p. http://markusillustration.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/posters.html
TCP
OK! So... I liked that more than Batman Begins but slightly less than The Dark Knight Rises. And probably didn't enjoy it as much as The Avengers, but they're pretty different movies so it's hard to compare. I spent most of the movie wondering if Joseph Gordon-Levitt was going to be Robin/Nightwing, so that revelation felt too little too late at the end. The Talia reveal was good though, I was kind of hoping she'd end up being her. Glad I played Arkham City last fall or I wouldn't have gotten excited over that. Are we getting a Robin movie next? Edit: Also! Owen from Torchwood! Awesome. Edited July 21, 2012 by TheCowboyPoet
Mal
Saw it tonight. This Robin I can get behind.
TheMightyEthan
I saw it too, and it was really good, though I felt like it kind of dragged in the middle. I thought it was stupid that they said his real name was actually Robin. That lady should have said "You should go by your full name, Richard Grayson" or something, so people familiar with the franchise would know what it meant without it being beat-you-over-the-head obvious.
TheMightyEthan
Also One thing I expected, since they'd been making a big deal the whole time about how the point of Batman is that he could be anyone, is that Bruce Wayne wouldn't get out of the prison and the Robin kid would become Batman instead. I didn't figure out that he was Robin until he quit the police force at the end (actually thought they might make him Nightwing instead, but whatever). pocoGRANDE
saw it last night, and i think i'd agree with TheCowboyPoet in that it was closer to Batman Begins than The Dark Knight. while i had a few problems with it, it still had quite a lot to recommend (and i honestly doubt we'll ever get a better movie incarnation of Batman than this, so for that i'm grateful.) the Robin reveal was good, although it leaves a lot of questions open (mainly, is this meant to be a continuation of the story or are they simply making the point that no matter what there will always be a 'batman'?) i personally would love Joseph Gordon-Levitt in that role, but it's hard to reconcile that with Nolan and Bale's repeated insistence that this is their last Batman. also, i realize it was a respectful thing to completely omit the joker from this film, but it also feels like something of a wasted opportunity. i would definitely not advocate exhuming Heath Ledger footage and superimposing it or anything like that, but perhaps just a mention of what was done with him after the last film... even in captivity the joker is a terrifying figure, one who i doubt the citizens of gotham would forget. in terms of other problems, i kept trying to figure out the timing of the 3rd act, where gotham is in shambles. the seasons are changing, then the special forces guys come in and they're like "we have 24 days" and then those guys are immediately killed and the next time we see commisioner Gordon he's like "we have 24 hours!" i dunno, it was a bit confusing. i think they could have done some more to make that consistent... something to give us a sense of the time passing and the dread of living under Bane's gotham. similarly, i also had a problem with the whole cops vs. gangster-cops showdown, in that we see the cops running braveheart-style (or maybe more the patriot-style? i guess any mel gibson movie... what women want-style) towards Bane's cops. they're waving batons and stuff around while Bane's guys have AK's, but the next time we see them they've managed to subdue all of the gangsters. so... yeah. enough complaining, though! despite all this i really did enjoy the film! Anne Hathaway was great. they really nailed the combination of playfulness and mysterious intentions that makes her character work. also i thought bane was excellent, and the reveal with Talia Al-Ghul was set up pretty much perfectly, with just that one shot of the scar on her back to tip off alert viewers. oh, actually, back to complaining. they kind of failed to justify bane's mask within the context of the movie. there was a very brief explanation... something to do wtih him being in constant pain... but the whole thing got brushed aside really quickly, which is a shame. it was a really interesting visual design on the mask (reminds me of an H.R. Giger design) and i thought the performance was great. but i still wanted more. but i'll say it again, despite all my problems i really enjoyed it. like, really enjoyed it. like, i'm probably going to see it again next weekend. so yeah, those are my thoughts.
