Yantelope
Armageddon is coming out soon and I'm pretty excited about it. I thought Guerilla was actually a pretty fun game and it looks like by making this one a little more linear it will be a better game. Since day 1 Red Faction has been working toward a goal of destructive environments and it looks like they're getting closer. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/red-faction-armageddon-preview/ Did anyone else play Guerrilla? It seemed like an underrated game. Edited January 20, 2011 by Yantelope
Faiblesse Des Sens
Remember when Red Faction games had geo-mod?
Yantelope
Remember when Red Faction games had geo-mod? Only the first really really did. Red Faction 2 was such a letdown in that respect. The new system is pretty darn cool though. Definitely way ahead of most other destruction systems. SixTwoSixFour
Guerrilla was a lot of fun- I got my copy free thanks to the whole Darksiders thing, and I enjoyed it immensely. Don't think I'll buy the new one at release, but once the price goes down a little, I'm in. The walkers were fucking awesome. I was playing it with my friends one time, and my friend found a walker, and went to one of the rebel bases. He walked the machine up to a lady who was standing next to a car, declared "Ma'am, I'm TAKING YOUR CAR" and then hit the swing arm button. One massive explosion later and we were all laughing our asses off.
Mercurial
Darksiders what now? Anyways ya guerilla's destruction system was awesome. I remember when I used to cast on JTV I destroyed that massive bridge with just hammer cause of the fucking EDF destroyed my walkers. Even with that it was a lot of fun. People who bought Darksiders within the first couple of days of release had a little slip inside their game, next to the manual. The slip said, basically, "Here is your secret code. What does it do? There will be an announcement at a later date." Two months passed, I had forgotten about it, and then they said, "Go to the THQ website, punch in the code, and you get a free copy of Red Faction Guerrilla for the system of your choice, just pay shipping." Made me very happy.
Yantelope
Apparently the new one takes place mostly in caves. This seems a strange place to be doing tons of destruction.

Yantelope
Apparently the new one takes place mostly in caves. This seems a strange place to be doing tons of destruction. Play Red Faction 1. but Red Faction 1 had a tunneling system that this game doesn't so it doesn't make as much sense.
Faiblesse Des Sens
It was more a response to the second sentence. RF1 proved that caves are the perfect place for that.
Yantelope
...but I like knocking over big buildings.
Faiblesse Des Sens
RF1 had its share of that! Honestly, what I would ideally would want is BOTH systems in play. That's what would be "next-gen" to me as other games (BFBC2) already have building destruction and it's not that implausible with this sort of hardware like how mind blowing geo-mod seemed at first. Yantelope
Yeah, I've been surprised by just how slowly the tech has evolved over the years. RF1 really proved just what was possible and I had high hopes that RF2 would expand and make the destruction thing a permanent staple of FPS. True destruction though has been very very slow coming. Mr. GOH!
I liked guerilla. But it wasn't very fun to drive around Mars and once the map really opened up I hated slogging around to get to missions and I just sorta stopped playing. I still have my save on my PC, and I'll sometimes get a hankering for destruction, but it gets old after a while. Armageddon may be good if the devs can find a better variety of things to do.
