Mortal Kombat

Scorpion is very awesome, yes. I don't like Mileena though (then again, I never liked her sai-spamming guro ways).

I seriously hope I can figure out how to play Stryker when he's available. I'm gonna roll a Stryker + Cage tag team just because it sounds so ridiculously bad. (I mean, seriously, aside from Quan Chi, have any other two characters been trash talked as much?)

Feels like it should be an xbl/psn only release.

That's exactly what I said when the game was first revealed months ago

That being said, I actually loved the demo a lot. I've already played through it half a dozen times and I don't think I'll be deleting it any time soon. There's a strong chance I might buy the game when it comes out.

I love stuff like Street Fighter and MvC as much as the next guy, but as a kid I was all about Mortal Kombat.

There was this bowling place right behind where I lived and they had arcade machines for MK 1 and 2 set up. I sucked and the damn thing would eat all my quarters in mere minutes, but I loved every second of it!

I lost interest in the series when they started going 3D and seemed to only care about adding a fuckton of minigames. But I really dig how this one is going back to the basics. If the nostalgia doesn't wear off before the game comes out, they just might get my money.

I feel like Mortal Kombat really thrives on nostalgia. Seeing as how I have no nostalgia for the game, I never really saw the appeal. A slower paced, needlessly violent, less strategic fighter with simpler inputs than what I was already playing? Yeah, not too appealing. If the appeal's nostalgia based, though, I can totally see why people like it.

I played it for the first time last night. I enjoyed it. I'm not going to bother throwing in on the discussion (or bash fest) of the gameplay because I'm not exactly a connoisseur of fighting games -- I play them, and either I like them or I don't.

The funny thing was that somehow I've developed a reputation among my friends as not being someone who can play fighting games. I guess they thought that b/c I never bothered to actually buy MvC3 or SFIV like they did.

Anyway, I picked Sub Zero and after about ten seconds of acclimating to the revised controls, I started kicking the everloving shit out of my friend to the amusement of everyone in the room. In the end I lost, but everyone seemed to feel like I performed better. It's nice when people have low expectations of you.

So apparently the game is region-locked so you can't play with people in another country.

Tack that onto the list of reasons not to buy this game anytime soon.

As far as i know, that's a mistranslated misinformation XD The game is supposed to search for players close to you first, but it lets you play with everyone if you want.

Just got it. Man, what a perfect fighting game! Every character is a blast to play around with, and I've nearly memorized the moves for Scorpion and Noob Saibot. And surprisingly, this is the first decent story mode in any MK game ever made. I'd say it's the best story in a fighting game, period, but bear in mind that it is also really cheesy.

I've told myself countless times I'm not very good at fighting games, and I doubt I would take advantage of all the features in the new Mortal Kombat, but it's very tempting to contemplate purchasing the game.

My neighbors have the game, so I'm thinking I could leech off their copy to satisfy this urge.

It's really a monetary issue since I want to be able to get Infamous 2 and Alice Madness Returns in June. I do have some crap I could sell, but there might be some good Blu-rays and stuff!

EDIT: Oh, not to mention my plans to get a 3DS for Ocarina of Time. :P

Speaking as something of a fighting game elitist... the actual fighting system is weak, is below the standard of Capcom and SNK (and Aksys) fighters, I feel. But it's certainly closer to being competitive than any other MK has ever been. They didn't quite make it, I think, but it's a big step in the right direction. If they do a sequel and keep on working on it, it could be a real competitive fighter.

The single player options are just plain better than other fighting games, and shine a harsh light on how little the genre has advanced since the arcade days.

I don't like it. I spent a little time with a friend's copy, and I don't like it, partially because I never liked the world, style, or characters of MK. I won't get petty about that one, but yeah, never cared for it. But this is the best they've ever done, and if they pushed a little more, it could be a tournament worthy game.

Enhanced Special Moves are worthless though, and Breakers don't always work, which is weak.

No love for MK II? :(

I get what you're saying. Many of these fighting games come down to personal taste; some love the Capcom stuff, others love the MK stuff. I personally prefer MK a little more than Street Fighter.

Yeah, that probably is a lot of it. Actually, I don't really have any childhood memories or anything associated with any fighting games, except maybe Killer Instinct. I got into the scene pretty late in life- late high school- and at that point, Mortal Kombat seemed... hrm. I don't know how to say this without being insulting.

It seemed asininely childish to me. I don't have a problem with blood and gore, but it seemed like the kind of teenage blood and gore where they do the gore for its own sake. If you like it, I don't mean to offend, but that's how it struck me.

Yeah, I get that. That kind of super-silly violence is pretty dividing. I find it hilarious, but I completely understand why some would just roll their eyes at it. The gore is definitely there just to be gory, but make it as ridiculous as possible for some good belly laughs and cringing. It feels like the developers just went, "Hey, Noob Saibot has a shadow twin! Let's get the two to pair up and rip some guy in half! That would be hilarious."
