Strangelove
Box art for Japanese RE HD collection. Too bad itll only be downloadables for the US and probably Europe too. I hope to God RE4 has Move support, otherwise I probably wont get it. Also, seeing that picture of Chris makes me kind of like the new muscular Chris even more. Old Chris always lacked any kind of originality, he was just some plain old skinny white boy. Kind of boring really.
toxicitizen
I agree on the Move support for RE4. It'll feel like such a wasted opportunity to not have it. I'm also strongly considering not getting RE4 HD when it comes out and waiting in hopes of a bluray release. Depends on the price, though. Those collections are usually 40$ at retail, so if the PSN version is less than 20$, then I just might get it anyway.
Strangelove
Ive bought Re4 3 times already across different systems. I wont pay more than 15 bucks for this one. And its an exception because I love the fucking game.
toxicitizen
Eh, I'm the same but with the Metal Gear Solid series. The HD collection will mark my third purchase of both MGS 2 and 3. I intend to keep my PS2 copies of Substance and Subsistence, though. Those are my preciou...ses? Though now that I think about it, I did buy a similar Resident Evil box as well. Holds the first Outbreak, Code Veronica X and RE4. Never played any of them, though, because I kinda hate how ugly PS2 games look on my PS3/HD display :/ Was more of a "collecting" purchase. So yeah, the HD release will be the first time I replay RE4 since the original gamecube release. Can't wait!
Strangelove
RE4 on the Wii was awesome. Its the best version. I hope you played that. But yeah, im the same way about MGS. Once i buy this HD collection itll be the third time I buy both those games. Im such a freaking sucker.
Faiblesse Des Sens
RE4 on the Wii required too much work to play. Controller plz.
Yantelope
I have to say, this look pretty damn good to me Sorry, it's late to chime in on the whole splinter cell thing but the reason it looks so much better is because the Xbox and PC versions were way better than the crappy PS2 port that came much later. A screenshot of the PS2 version and the XBox version would look that different too.
CorgiShinobi
I know I've agreed with Strangelove in the past about this, but yeah, the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 is the best version. It's the GCN version and PS2 version combined with great motion control. I'm going to feel so weird buying RE4, again! I have the original GCN version, the Wii version, and now there's a PS3 version on the horizon! Just the previous two copies alone I've played about... like, over 12 times! toxicitizen
Never did play the Wii version of RE4, so yeah, I really hope they include Move support. I'm still kinda pissed that my copy of RE5 doesn't support Move. I platinum'd it ages ago, but I'd probably go for another run if I it supported it. I don't really feel like selling it and getting the gold edition just for Move support and the DLC :/ Sorry, it's late to chime in on the whole splinter cell thing but the reason it looks so much better is because the Xbox and PC versions were way better than the crappy PS2 port that came much later. A screenshot of the PS2 version and the XBox version would look that different too. Oh, that's possible. The only SC I ever played on PS2 were Chaos Theory and Double Agent. 「Advent Chaos」
I am loving what Frosted said, games with interesting art styles should have HD-collection re-releases. Unfortunately as good as those games might have been they weren't very popular with the mainstream market at the time. Personally I would love to see a ".hack//INFECTION,MUTATION,OUTBREAK,QUARANTINE" Collection and if CC2 really wanted to bank in a ".hack//G.U. Complete Collection". It will probably be too much to ask, but some voice re-working, specially for the first games. Before .hack//The Movie was announced there were already rumors flying around, I still hold some sort of hope, but seeing how CC2 has handled .hack// I doubt it will ever happen. Also as a prediction, I can see Square Enix making a "Kingdom Hearts HD Collection", I see it and it is awesome. They could include the Final Mix version that never saw a NA release, even though it was highly requested by fans. Come Squeenix, if you're going to milk it, milk it good! Yantelope
So you guys did predict this flood of HD remakes way back when Sony killed backward compatibility with the PS3 right? Backward compatibility is going to be dead soon I think.
TheMightyEthan
Not to sound like a Halo fanboy (which I am), but if they're going to be making HD versions Halo Anniversary is the way to do it: rather than just upping the resolution and turning on AA/texture filtering, they actually built a whole new graphics engine, with new textures and models and audio for everything (except the VA). That's how it should be done.

If you don't own the game already then an HD rerelease is good sometimes but I very rarely rebuy an old game unless it gets the Halo HE remake treatment or something similar. Throwing in the additional maps influenced me too. Oh, this will be the 3rd time that I've bought MGS 2. It's my least favorite too. Strangelove
I feel better paying 10 dollars for RE4 HD port than i would if i paid 40(is that what its priced?) for Halo HD remake. Ports are there so that people who didnt have the previous system can play them again without having to buy an old system and looking for the disc. Its easier, its cheaper, and its better than the previous version. Not THAT much better, but it is better. It also guarantees that whoever made the game is going to profit from it instead of Gamestop. I cant argue with that. Plus, if youre going to spend so many resources and spend so much time on a remake, there HAS to be something radically different. Having a new engine and textures and VA is in itself kind of boring and very safe to do. Remakes of games should be like remakes of films: you have to give people a real excuse to check it again. While I personally hate Twins Snakes, they did it right. Not only was it prettier, but they gave you a reason to re-experience MGS1 again with different gameplay, voiceactors, art style, motioncapturing, dialogue, scripting, extra plotlines, etc. Everything but the storyline and most of the VA was new. It was a completely different take on it. A more modern take. There was some thought put into it. There was a reason for it to exist other than money. That, and nostalgia whores. Were all nostalgia whores. Edited September 21, 2011 by Strangelove
deanb
Yeah I'd much rather have a HD-ified, and cheaper, version than one that's had assets remade but with the price of a brand fire new game. It all works out cheaper than the original though: http://www.amazon.co...16637174&sr=8-7 I would say though that it is semi-pointless mind. If you have a gaming PC you can play PS2 games in HD anyway. The "high quality" specs for PCSX2 start at a multi-core CPU and a 880OGT
Yantelope
Last time I tried PCSX2 with MGS3 the results left me traumatized.
TheMightyEthan
When I tried PCSX2 last winter with SotC it lagged constantly no matter what I did. Lagged the exact same amount whether I tried to play it at 640x480 with all the fancies turned off, or 1920x1080 with everything turned on. Yantelope
Yeah, the problem with emulating the PS2 is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotion_Engine
TheMightyEthan
And I can understand the viewpoint that you'd rather they just upres the game and sell it cheaper rather than putting extra content into it and charging more (Halo Anniversary is $40, so 2/3 the cost of a new game), however there is some stuff that actually adds value to Halo Anniversary, at least to me, over the original: namely XBL coop. Now I'll be able to play Halo 1 coop with my friends from high school and college without one of us having to road trip over to the other's city. Alright, I really am starting to get too defensive/fanboyish toward Halo, so after this comment I'm dropping out of this conversation. TheMightyEthan
Halo 1 never had coop over live. Neither did Halo 2. They added that functionality to this release. So even if MS hadn't turned off the original XBL I still wouldn't be able to play Halo 1 coop over live without this game. *Edit* - FUCK! I posted! FredEffinChopin
So you guys did predict this flood of HD remakes way back when Sony killed backward compatibility with the PS3 right? Backward compatibility is going to be dead soon I think. I don't see it that way personally, it seems like a very small percentage of the library is getting the re-release treatment, so I don't think it was a tactic to get people to buy stuff they could already play. From what I understood at the time, removal of the EE was one of the major contributing factors in lowering the production cost of the PS3. I think they're pretty cool personally, as long as they make sense, which to me means that they were visual achievements of the time that would look even worse than their age upscaled on an HDTV. I also believe some of these last-gen games being HD-ified would actually make them look worse than their age, once big & shiny new TVs show how little visual detail is in them to begin with. I'm looking at you Prince of Persia. Then again I'd buy a Katamari Damacy & We <3 Katamari bundle in a heartbeat if it were to release in HD. To each their own I guess. excel_excel
I think Kingdom Hearts NEEDS the HD treatment if they are ever going to release a 3rd one due to how complicated that story has become. Silent Hill HD release should have Silent Hill 1 in some form or another.
