TCP
Rumour on the street is Final Fantasy X HD is a full remake using the engine from FFXIII and Versus, which means that Final Fantasy XII HD is probably pretty far away.. grr Next year is the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, so I'd imagine if they're ever going to do an HD collection, it'll be then. excel_excel
Holy crap that FFX remake is sounding mighty fine.... Use the same engine that Final Fantasy XIII and adapted to PSVita. All that is made from scratch with the new engine is the design of the characters, the aeons and stage elements. The sets and scenes in HD remasters CGI will implement a "filter" FFXIII Engine. The magic and some lighting effects are achieved with the new engine "Luminous". The Blitzball undergo small changes. Online options will include (not yet known details). The release date in Japan in fiscal 2012.
BrainHurtBoy...2
Are those just rumors or have any of those been confirmed?
toxicitizen
I think Kingdom Hearts NEEDS the HD treatment if they are ever going to release a 3rd one due to how complicated that story has become. Silent Hill HD release should have Silent Hill 1 in some form or another. Agreed on the KH collection. That's one of my most wanted since I never even finished KH2 (and now that MGS and Z.O.E. and Silent Hill all have already been announced ). As for Silent Hill, the original is already available on PSN, so I feel like it's not that big a deal to not have it. The only thing I see as a problem is the exclusion of SH4 for seemingly no valid reason. I guess it would be okay if they eventually released another collection with SH4 and a port of Shattered Memories, but that would just feel weird. I mean, packing in together a remake of the original and a game that's pretty much Silent Hill in name only... I really feel like SH4 belongs in this collection with 2 and 3. excel_excel
Tis all over the place, originated from a Spanish unofficial PlayStation site. It makes sense though, considering its being released on its own.
CorgiShinobi
FDS said it before, but I guess I'll say it too. If there's ever going to be a Kingdom Hearts HD collection, the games have to be Final Mix. That also means we would have Re: Chain of Memories. Forgot to pick that up back on the PS2. (I still have the original GBA version though!) So yeah, if an HD collection ever does happen and the games are the standard editions, I'm sticking with my PS2 copies. Strangelove
Re: Chain of Memories is really boring. I dont recommend it. Only thing thats better than the GBA in those versions are the new voice acted cutscenes, which are few in far between. Youre better off looking those up on Youtube. deanb
Hmmm.... (In fact this is an issue PCSX2 has as well, which is partly why it's not recommended to play ICO/SOTC on them as it doesn't do the fog.)
TheMightyEthan
Doesn't the lack of fog kind of ruin the entire game in Silent Hill? I would think that would be kind of an important inclusion.
deanb
I think what was important here was making a HD remake n making profit off of that.
SomTervo
Sorry, is that Silent Hill comparison from the HD collection or on that emulator? If it's like that in the HD collection that'd ridiculous. The Ico/SotC HD collection were flawless. However, it all depends on the company doing the port/renovation, the company who did the Ico/SotC one, Bluepoint Games, is probably the most reputable and best, others are nowhere near as good or dedicated to reworking the originals. EDIT: You seem to be arbitrarily bashing HD collections, Dean; while some of them are pretty obvious cash-ins, others really are made with care and improve upon the original releases. I'm really surprised the Silent Hill one had flaws like that (if that is the remake), especially as those games have such artistic merit. Ico/SotC were such vast improvements upon the originals. They are my favourite games, and it adds a lot having a consistently smooth framerate, better definition, sound, and responsiveness; as well as better draw distance etc. It's incredible: and it gives people a chance to get games they never had a chance to play (and in my case, keep my original copies hermetically protected, with no need to ever take them out.) deanb
*checks thread name* Yeah it's from the Silent Hill HD Collection @the edit: I was bashing this piss poor HD release. I'm totally not checking on FFX HD news like a hound, nor is the Team ICO HD port on my rental list. Also I'm not the only one bashing this release, so is the original art director. Strangelove
Yeah, I heard they totally fucked up this hd collection. I figured it was going to be a really good remaster because they even bothered to rerecord the voices for it. But they seem to have fucked up everything else. I even heard it was censored in some parts. I was really looking forward to it too. Oh well, gonna wait til its in the bargain bin now. SomTervo
Yeah that's cool, I just picked up negative tonality from some of your posts! Really, really tragic that this HD release isn't looking good. At least the originals still look amazing today and are totally playable (maybe not certain parts of SH3, but SH2, definitely). Yantelope V2
I will say that the current rash of HD re-releases makes me less in a rush to pick up games I've beaten but don't own just for my collection. Has anyone played the Jak and Daxter collection? How is it?
SomTervo
Yeah, I've got the J&D Collection. I can't really say till I've finished them. I played the originals in my formative years, so I can't remember how good the graphics actually were back then, but it looks like a lot still could have been done with the graphics here. Smoothing edges, improving textures a little more; but the games are still really good. Jak II has the same old problems it always did (generally boring game world) but is still very fun at times. Precursor's Legacy is a great adventure, still surprisingly big and fun. Jak III I never played and haven't played yet; but I imagine it's going to be good. In the end, it'll probably be worth getting to collect it. That's why I got it. I owe a lot of my original love of game design to the first one, so I got it for nostalgia, and I don't really regret it though this may not be the best of ports. CorgiShinobi
You know, if my PS3 breaks ONE more time, I will probably get a new PS3 with the only consequence being losing backwards compatibility. Most of my PS2 games though have an HD Collection now. Except Kingdom Hearts, which is what is holding me back. Forget adding Re:Chain of Memories like I said in my previous post here. Instead, do what the MGS HD Collection did: a PSP game. 1, 2, and Birth by Sleep. You would have all the major Sony releases given that the rest are Nintendo platforms (Re:Chain of Memories could be part of KH2 if we get Final Mix). TheMightyEthan
What is it with Japanese companies making 16 different versions of their games, with completely unhelpful names? It makes it a PITA to figure out which one is the "definitive" one, or which one is the one you should play.

I gave up in the end when I was trying to work out where to jump in with persona series since they removed stuff as well as adding stuff between the different editions. Mister Jack
It's very simple. There's Persona: Revelations, Shin Megami Tensei Persona PSP, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Persona 2: Innocent Sin PSP, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment PSP, Persona 3, Persona 3:FES, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Ultimate, Persona 4 BBQ Ranch Edition, Persona 4 and the Chocolate Factory, Persona 4: Electric Boogaloo, and The RPG Formerly Known as Persona 4.
Strangelove
Japan does a lot of stuff just because it sounds or looks "cool." They never attempt to rationalize it. Theyre kind of stuck in a early 1990's mentality where sunglasses and backwards baseball caps meant you were a rebel. Except they do that with naming videogames.
