toxicitizen
Hahaha yeah. I think there's even a line in the movie that basically says "Nero went insane from seeing his homeworld get destroyed". I get that he was blinded by his desire for revenge on Spock. But still, an oversight like that really feels like it belongs in the realm of stupidity rather than madness. topekaguy
The scene wasnt included in the final version but Nero was to have spent 25 years on Rura Penthe. The same Klingon hell hole that Kirk and MCCoy were sentenced to in Undiscovered Country. That wouldnt have a positive effect on one's sanity. Also, if it wasnt for George colliding the Kelvin with the Narada he would of been much more formidable. And he wasnt just after Vulcan. He went to earth and then he was going to go to Qo'noS. Maybe Andoria and the other major fed planets. But then again he did have a borg infused ship and was packing red matter. Dont even start about red matter... lol
deanb
Yeah that was something that only makes sense with external information was why it mattered about the fleet of klingon warbirds been destroyed. Cos the guys were imprisoned then waiting for when Spock arrived through the blackhole too.

deanb
Q is awesome. Any show with John De'Lancie is suddenly much better.

Lence
MY god...it's filled with Trekkies! or Trekkers...I don't know what we star trek fans are calling ourselves....I'm out of the loop.
deanb
I believe that Trekkies refers to the hardcore fanatics, and trekkers to the passing fan.
excel_excel
I watched Voyager and Next Gen whenever they were shown on Sky back in the day. Like them both a lot but was never a trekkie, never saw enough of Deep Space Nine which is supposed to be the best. Loved the new film though! Johnny
But the actor, Will Wheaton, actually turned out to be a very, very good guy. He was in the PAX D&D game they played on stage. Which, by the way, anyone with any interest in pen and paper should watch, because it is AWESOME. As for Star Trek... I'm a mild fan of the series, but I felt it always were a lot of so-so episodes, and a lot of the cast really were way more stale than I could handle. Loved the reboot. So what if it isn't quite as clever as the series, everything else from acting to action was improved upon.
TheForgetfulBrain
Oh yeah, subpar episodes were (heh) par for the course in the Star Trek series. It was never like shows today where if a show's good enough, you'll rarely have a poor episode. Still, I suppose that was part of their charm. I really hope we get a good new series soon. topekaguy
We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile. /needs a Borg emote

staySICK
He was in the PAX D&D game they played on stage. Which, by the way, anyone with any interest in pen and paper should watch, because it is AWESOME. Despite being D&D noobs (Gabe said he started with 4E), their games are very inventive and look like a ton of fun to play. I'd love to be in a PA D&D game
TheForgetfulBrain
Oh sorry. I do hate when that happens. It's still overall a pretty good film, just a few things in the plot got to me. I don't much care for 'hard sci-fi' but some stuff just seemed like they asked us to throw a bit too much to the wind n not pay attention to. Have you ever seen the 'Nitpickers Guide to Star Trek'? There's a bunch of books under that title that go through the various Star Trek series and find all the plot and filming flaws. They're pretty fun, and all out of love, but still. Star Trek is pretty much synonymous with plot holes. I think Dr. Who gets it right with, 'Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey' stuff as a general explanation for everything. Yantelope
I'm slowly making my way through season one of TNG for the first time. Man, some of these episodes are awful and dang this series started off preachy. I like how Picard teaches lessons to god.
