TheMightyEthan
Anyone interested in Pokemon already owns a 3DS as it is, so a Switch port seems rather pointless. This is false, I am interested in Pokemon and don't own a 3DS. I would imagine I am not alone.
danielpholt
If I had to choose I'd go for the latter option: Develop a game from the ground up for the Switch. As Ethan already said though, I'm not sure why they can't do both. As for the new game, I cannot wait. This was one of the titles on my E3 wishlist and I'm glad to see Nintendo is maybe..finally starting to understand what it's customers want. TheMightyEthan
Not interested enough to buy a console just for that game, no.
TheMightyEthan
Apparently the Switch Pokemon is a kind-of remake of Pokemon Yellow, set back in Kanto, and has Pokemon Go integration. The two versions are called Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go! Eevee. It's like they designed it to make me less interested. Mister Jack
God that all sounds horrible. I really hope it doesn't go with the top-down perspective again. That's fine for a 3DS game but I really expect better from the Switch.
TheMightyEthan
Top-down is like the one aspect of the leaks that I don't mind.
TCP
I'm in for Pikachu. Fuck Eevee.
deanb
I think this seems quite neat. It's clearly a kind of sort of port-type-thingy of Pokemon Go. I know people like to rag on Pokemon Go, but it's still one of the best performing Pokemon games they've ever made(even with the drop off in place base after initial hype it's still pretty big). I am concerned that at the end both Pikachu and Eevee seem to be a bit dead and ghost-like.
TheMightyEthan
Pikachu looks like that at the beginning too. I want to see more about how the actual battles work, and also I want to know if it's possible to catch Pokemon without the motion controls. Those two things will determine whether I get it or not. deanb
Maybe Pikachu doesn't feel so good? As for catching without motion controls, given it's swipes for the mobile version, I'd guess not given that's the closest approximation when using Switch docked. TheMightyEthan
I was more thinking for playing in handheld mode. I don't want to have to set it up with the kickstand and detach the controllers every time I need to catch a Pokemon. It seems Ninty thought of this though, as I read somewhere (don't remember where) that in handheld mode you use to gyroscope to aim, but throw with a button. So I'm imagining something similar to arrows in Breath of the Wild, which is fine with me.
Mal
Or it could be like Mario Odyssey and I shake the entire console for some of the hat stuff.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, Mario Odyssey did not have well-thought-out motion controls. It's confirmed though that you aim with the gyros and throw with a button, so it shouldn't be as terrible as that.
TheFlyingGerbil
They are still releasing a core pokemon RPG next year on the Switch so I'm struggling to imagine this is a full RPG experience even though they say it is. If it is just a "my first pokemon" I'll likely buy it, but i can't help but feel it will be super gimped in some fundamental way.
Mal
Wait for reviews or preorder it on Amazon for a discount... decisions man.
TheMightyEthan
I'm waiting for reviews, but I'll probably end up getting it.
deanb
Someone (or some group, I think) went and did them all up in the painted pokemon style.
TheFlyingGerbil
Anyone playing pokemon quest? I've got my team up to around 6,500 and it is SO painfully slow to level up enough to move on to the next level never mind the next area. Plus even for a mobile game you pretty much do nothing. I'm not 100% sure why I am playing it, tbh
deanb
I play it. Levelling up manually is for chumps. You should every now n then get the better cauldrons from completing sections of the island. Uuse them to get higher level pokemon. The Silver one nets you lvl 40-60 pokemon. No idea on the gold, not gotten that yet but cleared the main island. Then use the weaker shitty pokemon to level up or change the moves on your more powerful team. TheFlyingGerbil
I have what I believe is a good team, with good moves. The only thing I lack is sharing stones for it. I have the silver cauldron, it's still grindy AF.
FMW
Okay folks, hard question time. I can build one of two Pokemon teams. Which option is better: A team named after all the usernames in "Hackers" or a team named after all the call signs in "Top Gun". The Pokemon selected will need to fit the names. So the two options are: Zero Cool/Crash Override/Acid Burn/Lord Nikon/Phantom Phreak/Cereal Killer OR six of the following Maverick/Iceman/Goose/Viper/Merlin/Jester/Cougar/Wolfman/Slider/Sundown/Hollywood/Stinger

TheFlyingGerbil
Pokemon Sword and Shield were accurate rumours. It's a British-style region called Galar. As I'm currently playing Polemon Lets Go and not particularly enjoying it not sure how excited I am for this yet. First video is just the game footage and new starters. Second video has some men chatting and not giving much extra away.
