CorgiShinobi
You can also watch the Nintendo Direct from Wednesday morning, but this is the bulk of everyone's excitement. There has also been add confidence to a certain leak from a few weeks ago. If true, I'm ecstatic for the opportunity to capture an Electric-type corgi! And I'm still committed to getting Pokemon Shield because while Zacian is spot-on Sif from Dark Souls, I think Zamazenta is cool looking too and makes for a good Shield Hero.

CorgiShinobi
I'm going for that starter too. I don't hate Scorbunny or Sobble, but Grookey is adorable. Still will have to see what their final evolutions are.

CorgiShinobi
The Electric-type corgi is real and I love it! Yamper! There's also a Dark/Fairy-type that's the stuff of nightmares.
CorgiShinobi
So unique forms for Gigantamax, but... To get chubby Pikachu it seems I'd have to have played Let's Go Pikachu... And then people getting grumpy about Charizard having another form, but Charizard is one of the most favored Pokemon. Like, he gets this attention for a reason. Even r/pokemon's own favorite poll had him as #1. The point of it was to show every Pokemon is someone's favorite, but it bit them in the butt by showing the fame of Charizard. And this is coming from someone who prefers Blastoise. Edited October 16, 2019 by CorgiShinobi grammar
Mal
Pfft. Longcat lives! Charizard is basically Ken. Fucking Ken... but yeah, Charizard and Butterfree is just excuses for nods to Godzilla and Mothra. Edited October 17, 2019 by Mal

CorgiShinobi
So with all the leaks, the Pokemon community has been in a maelstrom of both joy and anger. Depending on the hour, you'll find people either excited for new Pokemon or making self-righteous manifestos about the evils of GameFreak. And here I am waiting to make my new Pokemon team with my girlfriend. The issue is mainly that Pokemon reached a point where a mainline game couldn't contain over a thousand Pokemon. While I think Pokemon Home (formally Bank) should have been better implemented to satisfy the hardcore, and maybe sell older titles to obtain "missing" Pokemon, I know from an actual developer standpoint why this was done. What's the point of introducing new Pokemon, inflating the numbers, adding more mono-types and similar dual-types, when they'll likely get overshadowed by the established Pokemon that fit the same role. You're essentially adding redundancy for the sake of something brand new. And forget not adding new Pokemon for another mainline series. That's an established requirement that must never be broken! However, let's be honest: If GameFreak ever made an "ultimate" Pokemon game with all available Pokemon in the biggest and grandest adventure, you could never top it. It's like Smash Ultimate where it's hard to believe it'll ever be topped in the series just by its sheer scale. There are still valid points of contention, like Charizard being the only past Starter present in the game. Even as a brand ambassador, it feels that Charizard has obtained a level greater than its original compatriots. I mean, I'll live, but if I posted half this stuff anywhere else I would be tarred and feathered by children and manchilden alike.
Mal
I haven't really played since like Yellow so most of the bitching goes above my head.
Mister Jack
Well the game has been datamined and it looks like most of the returning Pokemon are using the exact same models as they used in the last 3DS game. People found this out by comparing wireframe data. No wonder the game looks so terrible from a graphical standpoint. I was honestly hoping that the first proper console game in the series would be a revolutionary upgrade that gets me back into the franchise since I haven't finished a Pokemon game since the Game Boy days, but this kind of laziness is a pretty clear indication of where the series is headed so unless something changes drastically I think I'm out for good. TheMightyEthan
Meh, so what if some of the models are from the 3DS? I still think the Pokemon themselves look nice. The world looks like a last gen game, but that's about right since in terms of hardware Switch is a last gen console.
deanb
So general thoughts so far (I've just done the Gym Challenge ceremony in Motostoke(-on-trent)) - As a brit until it was pointed out I hadn't realised the localisation was pretty good. Your "mum" would "go spare" if you left without saying goodbye. You can watch the gym challenge on your "telly". You're encourage to "chin-wag" with your friends. The train line is delayed. It's pretty solid on that front. - My last Pokemon was Omega Sapphire (3DS) so it's cool to see pokemon with dramatic cutscenes and such (though no voice is a bit off putting). - This game was clearly not made with the Switch Lite in mind. For one it doesn't seem to use the touch screen aspect at all, despite quite a touch friendly UI. I'd guess they mostly tested it out in TV mode. It's a bit annoying, especially given it would make managing boxes so much easier if you could drag and drop. Having the triggers act as confirmation buttons is also a bit annoying. And also since it's designed around singular joycon use the + only opens the map when you're in the menu. It's a bit weird given the special-edition Switch for Pokemon is a Switch Lite, but obviously those aren't developer decisions (but even regular switch is a handheld mode and touch screen...) - There's loads of QoL improvements, such as being able to manage your boxes out in the field. You get a fast travel/Fly option regardless of having a Fly equipped pokemon in your party. You can toggle move descriptions in battle, and it will tell you if it's effective or not so no need to memorise the big table of type-advantage (which was a big table back in my Gameboy Color Pokemon Blue days, even bigger these days). - Having "Y-Comm" be a constant (and only) HUD feature when it requires you to get Nintendo Online feels a tad shady in a kid focused game. (also coming from the 3DS games, it stinks a bit to have to pay to trade with online friends). Also I generally think the game looks pretty, but I'm comparing in my head with previous pokemon games (and on a Switch Lite screen which is smaller and crisper than Switch in either mode), rather than say up against Witcher 3 on a decent PC (cos Witcher on the Switch is impressive feat but clearly a bit fugly). I am enjoying so far.
MetalCaveman
For the most part I haven't had any issues with the language, though there's been a couple of times when I went "what did you just call me?". Y was the last one I played, and I like that now even catching a Pokemon gives your party EXP. Y-Comm is kind of annoying in handheld mode, but on my TV the icon doesn't bother me that much. TheMightyEthan
I haven't gotten very far at all, but so far this is everything I dreamed a home-console Pokemon would be. @deanb I had also forgotten it was Britain until one of the characters said another was "pants with directions" and it cracked me up. Also, I'm sure it looks even better on the smaller Lite screen, but even on a full-sized Switch it looks fantastic. I haven't played on a TV yet, but I'm guessing that's where it will start to show its resolution. 17 hours ago, MetalCaveman said: Y was the last one I played, and I like that now even catching a Pokemon gives your party EXP. Y was also the last one I played, and my wife rolled her eyes at me when I was playing last night and suddenly go "Awesome! In this one you still get XP when you catch a Pokemon!" *Edit - What starters did everyone pick? I went with Grookey because I cheated and liked its final evolution the best, though Sobble was a close second, especially because I'm guessing you're going to have to go up against Lee's Charizard by the end. That brings up the one thing that I don't like so far about it: that Charizard is the champion's mascot. I mean, I already am a little irritated that the Charmander is the only legacy starter they included, but it doesn't bother me that much, but they could have at least made the Champion's big bad Pokemon something new to this game. MetalCaveman
Yeah, I picked Grookey after looking at its final evolution. First time arriving at the wild area I saw an Onix, immediately ran towards it only to find it was level 26 (Grookey was 12) , didn't end well. But it was cool to see it just roaming around. \m/ \m/
deanb
I went with the rabbit thing. Haven't looked at the evolution paths of the pokemon. I did much the same with the Onix . I'm finding that the pokemon that hang about in the open are basically mini-bosses. Having them out in the open is pretty cool, does mean in some cases if you run fast enough you can blast through an area, and lets you kinda pick which pokemon you want to encounter/catch. No more billion zubats.
TCP
I picked Scorbunny, but I know have all three starters due to trading. Found a Farfetch'd earlier today and got to become Sirfetch'd pretty quick, he's actually a pretty good Poke. I'm learning a lot about the UK in this game. For instance, did you know that everyone in Great Britain has the same interior to their house?! Amazing!
CorgiShinobi
Originally I was Grookey Gang, but with the amount of people abandoning Sobble and me being alright with its final evolution, I went with Sobble. I caught both a male and female Eevee before the first gym. I turned the male into a Leafeon and it's both amazing and bizarre to have a Leafeon so early in the game. My OP Yamper turned into Boltund tonight. Not so electric corgi now, but I'll keep her no matter what!
