Strangelove
Wasnt the 3DS like a 100 dollars to make? Then they sold it for 250? Its a bit different Id say. Not too much though. The Vita just does so much and looks so pretty that it doesnt feel like youre getting ripped off. Same as the iPhone really. The 3DS couldnt pull that off on its best day. Faiblesse Des Sens
Cell phones are subsidized though. That's a lot different. $200 feels fine... but would $800?

fuchikoma
I'm intensely curious how they decided a qHD OLED screen plus front and back touch sensors came to "$50." Edited January 21, 2012 by fuchikoma
WTF
Are we having a Vita launch thread? Just asking cause I really would like to know what games everyone's getting. I know I'm getting Lumines and Uncharted retail. I want to get wipeout but I'm iffy because of the mixed responses which are from very positive to average.  Digitally I'm getting Escape Plan(expected to be 12 quid but since i've 5 off it'll be 7) and Gravity Rush. Impulse buys Motorstorm RC(expected 10 quid), Super Stardust (8 quid)  I'll wait a bit before getting Katamari, Shinobido, Everybody's golf,Fifa.  Maybes inc Dynasty Warriors Next, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, Little Deviants  Definitely getting about 2-3 retail and 2-4 Download titles which makes it a pretty good launch. Bah this is the first launch where there's too many to choose from.
Connorrrr
IF I get one, I'll be grabbing Uncharted, Rayman Origins and possibly UMVC 3... I dunno which digital games are out so not sure about that yet, but yeah! Â Edit: And possibly Katamari I guess... Gah. TCP
Sign me up for Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and Rayman Origins. Maybe some Mod Nation Racers if the problems from the PS3 version are addressed. I'm really looking forward to LittleBigPlanet, that game looks ideal for the Vita. Sumioni looks awesome as well. fuchikoma
Gravity Rush looks good. Seems to get good reviews so far too. Wipeout may be on the list, but after they added interstitial ads to the PS3 version, there's a good chance I won't get it on the Vita or future titles. Â Other than that... I may hold off for a while on the Vita and see whether or not they try to make physical games pair to the first system they're run on, only work with activation codes, start phasing out physical media again, etc... If I can't buy games permanently, the system is useless and the PSP Go experiment has me cautious now. I do really want the thing though. WTF
I was just talking about launch/launch window games really. Outside of launch games there's a lot that I want to get like ragnarok odyssey, tales of innocence R, persona 4: golden, dragon's crown. Â Disgaea 3: Absence of detention is a definite buy since i didn't buy or play the dlc and just finished one cycle of the game - plus i really liked that title compared 1 and 2 and still haven't played much of 4 despite having bought it months ago. Thursday Next
I've got Uncharted and Rayman on the way. Wipeout is pretty cool. Â Motorstorm RC is a pretty interesting title. Speaking to a Sony rep yesterday he said that if you buy one version of it (PS3 or Vita) you get the other one free. I'm also pretty sure that the trophies for them are the same so you can play on the go, then when you get home boot up the big version and carry on where you left off. I don't think saved games auto-sync (yet) so you'd have to do a bit of copying across. Ruin does this too and the save data definitely syncs on that one. EDIT - Apparently Ruin is called Warrior's Lair now. Obviously no one told the Sony rep. Â Other titles with this cross play stuff include Wipeout 2048. I got the impression that Sony are very keen to push this whole buy one version-get both thing so I'd expect most first party titles to do it (as they should) and many third party ones too. WTF
I'm currently wondering if I should upgrade to a 3G model. Going by my current calculations for all the games I'm getting the 3G works out to be £25 more than the wife for me. Is it worth the added £25 I wonder.  edited to add: I'm definitely getting uncharted, wipeout, and lumines (retail); and escape plan plus motorstorm for dl. As for the rest I'll wait to see when the prices go down for a few titles. Edited February 8, 2012 by WTF

WTF
It's not a plan. It's a topup pay as you go deal for the 3G. I don't plan on using the 3G via vodafone after the first 250 is up and will use my other smart sims. £5 nets you activation 250MB and wipeout thus killing the cost technically by 50+5-minus the cost of wipeout which works out to 20-28 depending on where you're getting it from. WiFi Hotspot the phone et voila, 3G. No separate pay as you go sim or contract. Besides which, the use cases for 3G are pretty limited. WTF
Yeah I was going with the wifi but for me the savings just come to about 25 quid approx now. I don't really intend to use the 3G that often but if I did feel like it knowing you have the option isn't entirely bad. I know that a lot of London will have decent wifi coverage (the only good thing to come out of the Olympics technically - I really hope I'm on holiday or working outside the UK in July) but 3G isn't bad for the whole asynchronous gaming feature that's present in some games. RockyRan
Apparently they axed plans for the whole "UMD Passport" thing. Probably won't sit well with more than a few PSP1 owners
Mister Jack
I'm torn on the Vita. As a system, I think it looks great. Hardware-wise, I'm loving it. But the 3G is pretty much worthless, the PSN store price difference is laughable, and memory cards cost too fucking much. Â I'm still gonna get one, but it's becoming harder to overlook these shortcomings now that I know that downloading digitally saves you no more money than buying used. I really was hoping that Sony was going to be smart about this one.
TCP
Apparently they axed plans for the whole "UMD Passport" thing. Probably won't sit well with more than a few PSP1 owners Ehh.. it bothered me yesterday, but the more I think about it, the more I think those savings will eventually be issued in discounts for PSP games. If they charge 9.99 for a PS2 game, most PSP games should be around that price (or a few bones higher) soon. Hopefully their promise to patch games to include the Vita right stick is true... I can think of a few where that'd be handy. Supposedly, if it's a game where the camera was controller by the facebuttons or d-pad you can map those commands to the right stick. Â Â In my Amazon.ca update: as of 11:30 pm, my order hasn't shipped (I placed my order at 8 am) however, Amazon.ca usually takes a day or so to ship, and I've read reports of other people getting "your Vita has shipped" e-mails, so here's hoping. I have about 10 hours in a car on the 16th (and another 10 on the 19th), so it'd be great to have the Vita. I was going to play FFVI or VII on my PSP but I'd much rather do some Rayman or Uncharted. WTF
Honestly the UMD passport thing is not worth it. We're not going to get more than a 50% discount at best. Right now in the EU we do have a PSN powersale and a lot of titles are getting discounted to those prices so if you do want to purchase those titles badly there you go. If not you're really not getting your money's worth with such a program besides certain titles won't be on the PSN because of licensing issues. Most of us were aware of this already and as for me I'm still keeping my PSP with UMD features. Â If we've learnt anything from this generation is that backwards compatibility is always going to be dropped. 360 has limited compatibility to start with, PS3 dropped PS2 compatibility in 2008, the Wiis dropped gamecube compatibility last year. 3DS dropped GBA compatibility and we're unlikely to get most of the games on the eshop either. Â The future is digital (albeit overpriced on consoles) and if you want things to carry over just buy them digitally. As long as companies are operational it doesn't matter. Besides if you're afraid of losing your stuff via digital purchases while it's not legal you can transfer your ISOs, installers on consoles and PC and store them on an external drive in case the companies kill your DL lists. Personally we're only going to live to be a 100 most likely and I doubt gaming is what's going to concern me as a hobby when I'm 65+. As of right now I can still play everything I've owned since the late 80s in some form or the other through the things I've purchased and that's all that matters to me. I'm sure they'll be fine for the most part for the next few decades. Â I am glad we moved away from CDs (those got scratched so often unless you bought gold plated ones - Kodak[rip] Gold CDs were awesome in the late 90s, silver to a lesser extent). Â I did sell my Go though since PSN/SEN only allows you to authorise 2 handhelds at a time and I'm keeping my PSP3k3. I do have about 20 or so digital PSP games excluding minis and ps1 titles. Right now I just want them to make sure that all PSP titles are compatible with the Vita digitally around release and PS1 later. Besides that there's lots of games I want for it. It's not like I play my PS2 titles on my PS3 or gamecube titles on my wii etc (It's nice to have a little retro room and when you do get around to living on your own/buying a house try to find some space to do that ) Â I bought my 3DS and only own 6 games(retail) and 4 digital for it so far but have spent around 300 hrs playing the device which makes it worth it for me and knowing the games I want coming out for the vita plus the ones I'm getting is good enough for me. Â The basic issue for most people isn't the cost of the device but the justification of costs and if there's not enough spending money people like to state one purchase is better than the other. It's why there are so many smartphone supporters because people believe they want just one device but the truth is there's room in the market for more than one device of any kind and the more people acknowledge it the better (People are civil on this forum but there's far too many where people just like to put down one device over the other). Â On a more topical note, I found out that I can get a bunch of games by the middle of March for extremely low prices (about a third of the RRP for some) from my source so I might wait out on a few games outside of Lumines and the digital purchases. Just wondering if I should get Uncharted or Wipeout on release - which do you guys think is better waiting on a few weeks for? Â PS: sheesh I'd typed this up hours ago and then had to rush out for a few meetings only to see this now :/. I guess I do type a lot and forget about it. Thursday Next
Just to address one point quickly. I was told by a Sony rep that all digital PSP content will be compatible with Vita on release, including PS1 titles and (hypothetically) PS2 titles, if (hypothetically) Sony were to (hypothetically) release PS2 titles on the EU PS Store (hypothetically).
WTF
Actually somewhat wrong there The PSP content yes it should be compatible, the download lists aren't perfectly in sync yet (store issues) but if you have a PS3 you can download the installers and transfer them to the Vita. Same thing applies to the minis. PS1 games support will be patched in around launch window. It's not in yet will be soon. PSN games of course not(but we all knew that) and PS2 titles are a negatory (I'm pretty sure Shuhei Yoshida of SCWSS knows the most about it and he said no PS2 titles on the PSN are supported on the Vita, at least not currently planned).  Edit: FYI if you're ordering from Amazon UK they've dropped the vita plus memory card price to £214.99 (229.99 inc an Ubi game).  Edit 2: if the starter kit is what you're after you could always drop £10 at game or gamestation which works out to £10 credit for future purchases [tech making the box free which by itself does have a decent value for frobisher says, £5 off one of 4 games {escape plan, super stardust delta, hustle king, and little deviants (making them approx 6.99, 2.99, 2.99 and 12.99 approx I believe)} who cares about the home items or avatar and some cheapish ltd earphones.] Edited February 10, 2012 by WTF
