Mr. GOH!
If this thing has a robust library of PS2 and PS3 games so I can catch titles I missed, I'm sold. Well, as long as it's under $350.
CorgiShinobi
You guys seen the real photos of this thing? It's huge! I know others have been saying this, but I'm getting flashbacks to the Game Gear. I'm thinking of the whole "rivaling PS3" perspective, and truth be told I'm thinking that really means, "It's far more powerful than a PS2, but not quite as close as a PS3." Someone said the battery life is suppose to be 4-5 hours, but perhaps that's just average and could change on what you're doing with the device. Battra92
So big it's the Game Gear 2! Seriously, though I can see this thing needing a case or man-purse because I can't see that fitting in my pockets and if it did the sticks would break off. :-/ Also, I see it being WAY too pricey. Guess I'm not going to dive in to the next gen of handheld gaming for a while.
Thursday Next
Need to see a price. That's about all I'm waiting on. This definitely has me more interested than the 3DS though.
Yantelope
This thing is gonna cost a fortune. I'm putting my money at $400.
Thursday Next
Ok, now, if this is Kindle style 3G. i.e. no fees to pay. I'd consider it even at $400. If there's some sort of monthly plan...not so much.
Battra92
This thing is gonna cost a fortune. I'm putting my money at $400. At the least. I'm sorry but it takes a lot to get me to part with $400.
TheMightyEthan
I agree that it will be at least $400, and am somewhat shocked there are people still considering getting it for that price. Though I'll admit from a technical perspective it looks very cool. And the touchpad on the back is an awesome idea.

I just can't really ever afford more than $200 on a portable device and I bet it takes a long time for something like this to drop to that price. TheMightyEthan
The thing that turns me off to this more than anything is that with the PSP there is absolutely no comfortable way to hold it such that I can both support its weight and still use all the buttons. This one looks bigger and heavier than the PSP, so I am skeptical that that problem has been addressed.
deanb
The Quad Cortex-A9 was confirmed? FUUUUUUUU I saw the spec list floating around the net and while most was believable I was stumbling on the idea of the Quad Cortex-A9. Holy fuck balls that's a powerful handheld. Like if folks think the A4 in the iPhone is nice with Epic Citadel, the PSP2 is going to look very shiny. I guess they had to go above and beyond though. This thing is expected to be in market for 5yrs+. Dual-core phones are springing up this year. So it wants to be ahead of the curve enough that phones don't outpace it a year down the line. Also the potential specs of the PSP2 is why I lol'ed at anyone going "omg the 3DS graphics are amazing". the 3DS specs are shit. Nintendo have not departed form their recent trend of underpowered hardware. Yeah it's gonna be pricey. Hoping it's not £/$400 though. However the difference between the PSP2 and the 3DS is that the 3DS has most of it's price pumped into the 3D screen, which not everyone is too fussed about. The PSP price is on those beefy specs, which folks would be much more lenient on. The PSP2 has certainly hit all the markers of what folks wanted out of it: -Power to run PS2 games (potentially. Though I feel if they had that system in place they'd of done something like Ico or whatever) -Dual analogs -touch screen -beefy specs. The NGP thing is weird. The main playstations have gone 1,2,3 and expected to go to 9. So it was easy to assume PSP, PSP2 etc. Wonder what they'll come up with. Next-Gen portable is pretty stupid though cos it'll be CGP when it's released If it's repeats of PS3 games, then yeah that'll be boring. But side-stories are cool, like Chains of Olympus, AC:Bloodlines etc. And the PSP had a decent library of it's own stuff, so don't be surprised on getting it's own things. Also the touchscreen is probably going to me a few ports from iPhone/Andrpoid (depending on Sony's policies, and the price of the SDK, but they'd be stupid to price it out the reach of iPhone devs. Just run them "minis" style) Still l want to know about the delivery method for games (I've not read everything, maybe it's answered). It looks like it'll be on MemoryStick type cart, with the option to download things too. Which flash cart makes great sense since it doesn't kill the battery with a motor spinning a disc drive. Toshi
As long as there's some decent fighting and rpg games on the go, this should be great for me
SomTervo
On the Uncharted game, someone confirmed it: It's not by Naughty Dog, and is not a remake of Drake's Fortune. It's a standalone Uncharted game. ND are obviously totally focused on Uncharted 3. I'll look around for confirmation anyway. Still l want to know about the delivery method for games (I've not read everything, maybe it's answered). It looks like it'll be on MemoryStick type cart, with the option to download things too. Which flash cart makes great sense since it doesn't kill the battery with a motor spinning a disc drive. Great call. That'll save an extremely significant amount of power. And the machine's bigger anyway. Yeah they said that games will come on flash memory, and savegames will be saved to the card, and it'll have extra capacity for downloadable content etc. Not to mention the device actually having it's own memory anyway, which will no doubt be a significant size, for downloading like on the PSPGo. HotChops
OMG, it can play MGS4!!!! *watches as MGS4 is outsold 1000:1 by Angry Birds on the iPhone.* Edited January 27, 2011 by HotChops
deanb
What do you mean by "non-traditional". this thing rocks motion sensors and touchscreens. Only "non-traditional" thing it doesn't have that the 3DS does is two screens and 3D. And regarding games, that's up to the developers. If someone wants to make PlaystationHamsters or Doctor Standton and the Mysterious Cube, nothings stopping them and it's perfectly capable to run those kinds of things. edit: $10 says Angry Birds comes to the PSP2. edit2: No replaceable battery. :/ edit 3: Yes there's a Wi-Fi only and a 3G enabled model. So that's cool. No word if it's dataplan requiring or like Whispernet.
TheMightyEthan
By "non-traditional" I mean parents and sisters and such people, not the kinds of games it can run. I think those are the kind of people who will go "ooh 3D!" but then look at the PSP2 and be like "Okay, so why is this better?"

I'd add that the casual market for the DS is so massive that the 3DS will remain appealing and familiar, while the differences in the NGP are (almost) all under the hood, so the casual market will probably stay with what it knows and trusts already. Strangelove
I wish i didnt want another handheld......but i do. I have to play each and every uncharted like ive played each and every mgs gamme. I is sad for my wallet.
TheMightyEthan
Here's how you solve the problem: track down the dev team of the portable Uncharted and kill all of them.

I think I'm going to work my balls off during the summer to have enough for this come Xmas. I haven't been too into handhelds since I was a kid (though I have and enjoy a DS)- but by god I want an NGP. It's so feature-laden, it looks actually worth it- not just for gaming. Strangelove
I only kill people i hate. Sure, i thought about killingg my exgirlfriend when she dumped me, but i didnt. Killing out obsessive passion and love i guess isnt for me. Ill get chewy to do it. He hates uncharted.

staySICK
yea, at $400 I'm going to have to pass, unfortunately. hell, at $250 I'll probably have to pass for a while. Since this was just the announce, hopefully at E3 they'll have some more new content to show and a definitive launch lineup. As for the size, it looks slightly larger than a PSP, hell I thought it was the same size as the PSP when I first saw the pictures, until kotaku did that scale chart. And while it may be big, it looks thin. Like way thin. With only a flash media, it saves on thickness and heft, so while it may be bigger around than the original PSP, it should be about the same weight or less, I would imagine, right? Either way this thing looks amazing, and that's the first time I've thought that about a Playstation console at announcement since the PS2. I was originally skeptical about the PSP and the PS3, but ended up getting both. also, Dean, where'd you find confirmation about the 3G and non 3G flavors? That's great news, if they decide to make it tied to carrier discretion. Hell I didn't know there were 3G devices that didn't require mobile carrier support.
