Strangelove
The Blazblue port is amazing. It looks perfect. The game is pretty good too. Finished most of the tutorial, then got stuck. The game is pretty fucking hard though to "get". I wish it was simpler.
fuchikoma
Dash cancel combo tutorial? I eventually did it, but never "got" it. It only took a few days... This probably isn't what most serious players would say, but I'd suggest just forgetting about it and playing the arcade mode. It's much easier to beat the boss than it is to clear the tutorial - and besides, lots of combos get broken when they release a new version (which was just announced, so the clock's ticking) anyway. Strangelove
YES! That fucking thing! I started the arcade mode and am so glad that half the things you learn arent necessary there. I guess they add all these techniques for the hardcore fans. I sure as hell wont be bothering doing most of the intermediate techniques. Faiblesse Des Sens
Dash canceling is definitely the thing that separates the more casual fighting game fans from the ones who are very competitive.
Strangelove
It seems simple enough, but the execution is something else. It seems to require perfect timing. I didnt even bother with the rest of the tutorials. I cant even imagine the advanced stuff.
fuchikoma
If you're new to BB - I play as just about every character in every game, but not BB. It's a whole other game for different chars. Still, while I'm frustrated by the seeming requirement online for insane combos and the way that once you learn them, they change them, it is still a fantastic fighter series. Totally pointless buying upgrades for offline players, but I love the quick, definite action and the shifting strategies for each character. Catch me on PSN if you want an opponent who's... pretty experienced by now, but still not into deep combos, hitboxes, frame advantage and all that tourney-level stuff. fuchikoma
That one is actually the hardest, I think (they made you do another combo earlier, right?) The rest of the tutorials are much easier, until you get into challenge mode - which starts easy then flies into what you'd swear was meant as a parody or something. Strangelove
Hazama is a dick. I did finish the tutorial though. You have to enter commands way before they actually occur. It's weird, but I see where theyre going with it. Edited August 16, 2012 by Strangelove
Mister Jack
Unlimited Hazama? Hoo boy, I've seen SNK bosses that weren't that broken.
Strangelove
I dunno, the boss I guess. He has this green shield thing around him. The game never explains what it does, if anything. I also have no idea how to avoid his distortion special move thing either.
fuchikoma
I always found SNK bosses straight up impossible, but I beat Hazama after 2-3 tries... Even Seth gave me more trouble than that. I just had to defend well and wail on him... and taunting gives you a heat bonus against the CPU.
Mister Jack
Hazama's green field saps your life and gives it to him. Don't spend too much time inside its range.
Strangelove
I was fighting him using taokaka. Shes really close range. I eventually just quit.
TCP
So, no price raise for the Vita this year. Which is good, 250 is a good price for the hardware. If they could, they might be wise to lower prices of memory cards. And maybe introduce a 64gb card.
Faiblesse Des Sens
For the millionth time: The cards are comparable to similar flash memory. They're not selling you some shity class 2 card. What an odd comment though... why would they ever raise the price? Historically, have we ever seen this happen for a portable or console? We've seen new versions come out, sure, but I can't think of a case where the price is raised and that's your only option.
TheMightyEthan
For the millionth time: they are not comparable. 32GB Vita memory stick, $80. 32GB Samsung class 10 microSDHC, $30. And that's not even taking into account the fact that Vita memory cards are really more like a class 4-6. They're something like 3 times as expensive as they should be.
Strangelove
I am also of the opinion that the 250 pricepoint should stick, but the cards should be lowered or upgraded. the 4 gb should be phased out or packed in with the console and the 8gb should be lowered to 20 bucks and so on. The Vita REALLY needs a 48 or 64gb card or higher, but I cant imagine paying more than 100 bucks for it. I know that them being proprietary and the development costs accounts for how expensive they are, but how are manufacturing costs applied to the capacity? Are 32gb cards more expensive to produce than 4gb cards? Or are they just arbitrarily priced like cellphone data plans? I just think overall that the price for the cards would be fine if they had been with a bit higher capacity. Im done with my 16gb card. Its full and I only have about 10 Vita games or so on it. I own a fraction of the released Vita stuff and I bought the second biggest card. The system has been out for less than a year. If I keep spending like I am now, in a year even a 64gb wont be enough. And im not even accounting for PSone classics. I think it would be in Sony's interest for me to go all digital. Well, this isnt helping. At all. TheMightyEthan
Consumers don't benefit from all that proprietary R&D so I don't view it as a reason for me to pay more, even if it does drive up their costs. I also feel like the fact that you have to buy a card makes the price of the system misleading, especially with how expensive the cards are. At the very least they need to include a 4GB card so you can save your games.
Strangelove
The irony is that so many people ask for a price cut, but most places offer you a 4gb card AND a game with the system for 250 bucks. Im not sure whats wrong with people. Is it just somehow better if it's an actual Sony certified pricecut? And they don't even throw in shitty games, you can get stuff like Gravity Rush or MGS HD for free. But yes, the 4gb should be in there already. Or 1gb or 512mb or whatever. Since launch. Something to at least save games a few apps. If people want to upgrade later on, let them.
TCP
FDS, for the millionth time: 100 dollars for 32gb is more than most consumers are willing to pay. Also, who said anything about raising the price?? Edited August 16, 2012 by TheCowboyPoet
fuchikoma
I was fighting him using taokaka. Shes really close range. I eventually just quit. (Maybe we should continue at the fighting thread if this keeps going...) I've actually only beaten him with Tao since she's my main. I never noticed the drain effect in his forcefield. I spent a lot of time in the air, trying to keep out of reach of his diagonal chain attack. 2B is a great quick low poke that connects a lot. 6A will bop him into the air slightly, opening him up to Cat Spirit 1, which you can usually finish with an extra shot from your drive button. You can also charge a Trick Edge while you're still mashing on A to slash in Cat Spirit 1, though if the spacing is a little off, you'll just streak away and dash back in front of him without hitting (you could also cancel it in midair if you see it about to fail though.) 6C is a powerful attack that can blow him back into the wall. I've finished him before by doing 6C, dash, 6C, dash, 6C, though that's probably pushing it a bit. I also got into the habit of using Cat Spirit 2 on the way down from any near jumps - it keeps the pressure on, and a good chain can knock back your opponent. But definitely use that heat bonus - taunt once when you can, and I recommend "I'mma Beat the Crap Outta You!" because it has great range and a very high chance of connecting (strategically, it counts as a throw, so your opponent can knock you out of midair or throw counter, but cannot block it.) Ultimately though, he's a fighter boss so he's a bastard... beating him the first time is probably a bit much since he's tougher than a bank vault. Strangelove
Persona 4 The Golden was moved to November 20th in the US. Thats basically a Christmas item now instead of a Halloween one. Im disappointed because Im really looking forward to playing P4 for the first time on the Vita, but October is going to be cramped for me even without Persona. I got SFxT, AC3 Liberation, and maybe Silent Hill. And maybe Ragnarok Odyssey. Depending on reviews.
Mister Jack
NOOOOOOOO! That is the ONE game I have been waiting for with practically bated breath for months now. WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE P4 THE GOLDEN!?
danielpholt
I finally got around to downloading the Lumines demo this morning. Shit gets real crazy real fast. I wanted to enjoy the music and the animations going on in the background, but i was quickly swamped with blocks and the like. I'm not sure my brain is quick enough for that game, it was like a super crazy version of Tetris. I'll probably give it another few goes before i delete it from the system, in the hope that my skill level increases but its not a promising start.
fuchikoma
Lumines is definitely the kind of game that you can get the hang of - skill in Tetris and other block games doesn't quite seem to translate, but you can definitely get good at it. ...though I'm not getting any newer ones because they have the same issue as the original as far as I've seen: You can't save partway through and resume from a given level. Every time, you play from the beginning, and I got super sick of the first 3-4 songs, while never even hearing part of the later ones. It really limits the replay value on an otherwise great game.
