TheForgetfulBrain
I basically never play my PSP. I haven't touched it in years. Between this and the 3DS I probably won't get either. Still... it's nice to see the dual sticks finally.
deanb
Dean, where'd you find confirmation about the 3G and non 3G flavors? That's great news, if they decide to make it tied to carrier discretion. Hell I didn't know there were 3G devices that didn't require mobile carrier support. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/285786/news/sony-ngp-multiple-models-3g-not-standard-and-will-cost-extra/ (CVG I know, but it has quotes so I assume it's true) And yeah Kindle has "Whsipernet" which is 3G, but it's part n parcel of paying for the initial device. I think they just worked out some deal with a carrier. Books don't require too much to download. Regarding the size I know my housemate will be glad it's bigger, he feels the current PSP is too small and cramped, especially for his long Monster Hunter hours. (which both of them are shocked at no one showing off Monster Hunter on it)
staySICK
they demoed Monster Hunter 3rd at the Meeting, and mentioned that they'll have something to show off around E3, iirc.

ZTF
Are there any confirmed details about integration with a PS3? What I'd most like to see is streaming from the NGP to a PS3 so I can play the games on a big screen without wires.

What I'd most like to see is streaming from the NGP to a PS3 so I can play the games on a big screen without wires. What sort of connection would it have to use though? We already know the tech specs of both. I'm not sure if wireless G would work for that.
deanb
Didn't the PSP let you do that? I'd assume Remote Play is on the tables, I doubt they'd remove that. By the sounds of it's there's some kind of cloud syncing type deal going on with saves. So you can ply something on PS3, then pop onto the NGP and play same game right were you left off. But that depends on how similar the games are. Though they do have Minis n PSX games shared between the devices. I think the bummer that the moment is the lack of R2 n L2 buttons. But maybe the touch pad on the back will fill in for that...some how.
Mister Jack
Really just use the left half of the touch pad for L2 and the right half for R2. Problem solved.

I'm not sure if wireless G would work for that. I would assume Wi-Fi could take care of it. Didn't the PSP let you do that?I'd assume Remote Play is on the tables, I doubt they'd remove that. I was told that the only way to output video from a PSP to a PS3 was with a wired connection. It's not really Remote Play that I care about, but rather just basic video output. Faiblesse Des Sens
It did it with wires though. Anyways, yeah, for most functions of the top buttons I can think of (talking about the missing 2 buttons), i can picture the touchpad filling in. Grenades? Swipe right. Melee? Swipe left. Toggle crouch? Swipe down. etc etc
MetalCaveman
Awesome specs, size is not a concern to me, price is Probably won't be buying it day 1, but I'll definitively buy it.
Pirandello
NGP. Sounds cool. Makes me want to buy it. They should do a Kevin Butler commercial with this once it releases.
CorgiShinobi
I'm kinda doubting the touch screen on the back. Instead of swiping and all sorts of controls you had with the Nintendo DS, I can see the thing being primarily used for tapping onscreen menus and other in-game actions. Still, it looks like we might have to act like bears and hold the thing with claw-like hands. That is, if we're to believe you can use the touch screen while holding the device on the sides. Anyway, as for 3DS vs. NGP, it'll be like the DS vs. PSP. While one is clearly far more advanced, the other has one feature that will make cash flow. Of course, it all comes down to games as well. The 3DS does have great third party support already, so all the NGP needs is some original titles and we'll have us an ol' fashion handheld feud! EDIT: I swear, they better not try to resurrect Marcus to promote this thing. You need to sell, Sony! SELL! deanb
I dunno, tapping things by using a toushcreen on the back doesn't sound like it'll be very easy. Like trying to pin the tail on the donkey. I saw a demo for one game where the touchpad was used to move the landscape around, like where the fingers went on the back a rolling hill moved around n pushed things about. Looks like devs could have some fun with it. It's certainly got more than enough inputs.
CorgiShinobi
Well, I imagine the whole point of the touchscreen being on the back is to go along with the new trend of not blocking your view onscreen. I've seen some tech demos use, what I believe are, OLED devices where you touch behind to select, swipe, and etc like on an iPod Touch or smartphone. Of course, you could see your hand and figure were to tap/etc, so I'm wondering if users will have to get "use" to the touchscreen on the NGP. deanb
It has a touchscreen too. Also minor pet peeve but it's not a touchscreen on the back, just a touchpad, no screen.

excel_excel
Price and battery life thats all the info me needs! I'm pissed off they didn't stick with UMD though, meaning to get old PSP games we have to download them off the store. Which Sony's support of is shit
CorgiShinobi
Why would you need a screen on the back? I'm just joking because I've realized the error I've been saying for a while now. I'm so use to the term "touchscreen" because many devices use them now. The Nintendo DS, iPod Touch, tablets, smartphones, universal remotes, and so forth. About the only thing I have with a touch pad is my laptop. EDIT: Heck, even my printer has a touchscreen.
