Johnny
I'm expecting this to start out just like the PSP: An uninteresting console filled with simply lesser versions of it's big brother's games. It took ages before the PSP started shoveling out the good stuff, and even then the gems were few and far between. I'll probably pick it up at some point, but I'm not expecting it to be worth it any time soon.

Yantelope
DSi had cameras on front and back. Your chart is invalid.
deanb
Yes I know. The article was amended to reflect that. Sorry that one cell in that entire chart being wrong apparently invalidates the whole thing for you. edit: Okay I have amended and prettied up the chart:
rainetemplar
I really like the look of the NGP.. but I'm p sure I won't get it. For me it's not worth paying $400. I've had a PSP and after playing some games it was only collecting dust. I sold it, but I did regret it later when P3P came out, and when new downloadable games came out on PSN (f.e. Final Fantasy). Mister Jack
I can't resist it. It's too shiny and sexy. Hell I might even go 3G depending on how much it costs.

Faiblesse Des Sens
Because the PSP sold terribly? I don't get it.
deanb
Find me someone who thinks 60million is a terrible figure. It's only a year older than the 360 and sold 10 million more. (about 10million a year, same pace as the 360) It's only "terrible" when you put it up against the DS. But that's like putting me up against Paul strugess n calling me short. Also the image is for piracy.....
Faiblesse Des Sens
Ah, because tapes were the first thing people were using to copy music?
deanb
Whether they were or not(no doubt you'll whip out something showing folks pirated books) the tape shaped skull and crossbones has become the symbol of piracy: Which we have another thread for... edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Taping_Is_Killing_Music there we go. I knew it was used officially somewhere. But yeah, got turned on its head n used by the pirates instead.
DarkMalice
Urgh. I hate that they are showing a feed for the PS3 versions of the games and try to pass them off as NGP graphics. I mean yeah, it's a concept video but it just seems a little dishonest to me. But gravity daze looks amazing. They better show more of that as a game and not pass it off as a tech demo

deanb
Wait what part of that was PS3 games, all looked NGP to me. The PS3 ports where certainly not up to par with their PS3 counterparts for sure. Also my first time watching that video and I'm happy to see them showing off all the inputs, while I fear with some devs it may get muddy in trying to cram in controls for everything, it really does open up whats possible. VR games, that ball/hill game with the touchpad, head tracking with front camera for pseudo-3D. It's going to be a very exciting and interesting device for devs to play about with and really experiment with their games.

The controls on the bottom right have R2 and L2 inputs, which as far as I know, is not part of the NGPs control scheme. And I swear those clips for LittleBigPlanet are taken directly from past trailers. Gravity Daze looks like the real deal tho, and that looks pretty solid. But yeah. Them showing off all the inputs is a good move. I really can't see this device repeated its predecessor's mistakes (unless its priced horribly), seeing as the PSP was really a botched dualshock controller without R2, L2 and a second analog nub with a screen in between. There's no excuse now for developers not making unique experiences on this thing. It's certainly capable of being more than a "port-machine". deanb
Press Shots show it's only got 2 rear back panels, but R2 n L2 may be the same triggers as R3 n L3 on Dualshocks (the push button under thumbsticks) This thing can do all the games the PSP can, everything the iPhone/Androids can, and something neither of those can. The lack of proper triggers n bumpers does limit it in respect to direct ports from console though. However They'll probably do some kind of jerry rig like that had on PSP playing PS1 games. Maybe touchpad left n right to emulate pulling the trigger?
Faiblesse Des Sens
Huh? There are no proper triggers on dual shocks. You're letting the 360 plague your mind!
deanb
Well would you know what I was meaning if I said "2s" or "1s"? While the term may of arrived with Xbox, you have to admit it's a pretty easy name to use in refrence to those 2 buttons.
DarkMalice
They could. It's not like this thing lacks inputs. If anything, for shooters at least, they could have a grenade button or reloading at the bottom corner of the front touch pad. That would be totally comfortable. Actually, putting in that touchscreen could really add a lot of depth to games. I can already see SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 4 where you command your teammates to a certain location by pressing it on the touchscreen or LittleBigPlanet where you use the touchscreen to drag items in Create Mode. Simple things like that really do add oomph to a game.
CorgiShinobi
All I know is that the footage for "LittleBigPlanet (Working Title)" was in the announcement trailer for LittleBigPlanet 2.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Those were also games I don't think they demoed at the announcement event, either. Not a big deal, they were going for quantity, not quality. They're coming out with LBP and Hustle Kings games on it is all they were saying. Showmeyomoves!
It's not like bull shots are anything new. Yeah, it's a Sony trailer. I thought bull shots were implied. By the way, did Capcom show off any Monster Hunter footage? Because that game will probably be the reason I end up getting this thing at some point... Fuckin' Monster Hunter...
