PS Vita

UK will be getting the new PS Vita Feb 7th, but Fergal Gara, Head of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, doesn't expect the Vita to be as big as the PSP.

Strange if you ask me, but he does justify his perspective by stating how the handheld market has expanded versus the market circa Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP. Don't know how many other higher-ups in Sony would consider the Vita more of a PS4 accessory.

Lots of Vita news yesterday:

Slim Vita is coming to North America "this spring".

Sly 1 - 3 is coming in May.

God of War 1 - 2 is also coming in May.

Something about Blazblue.. I don't really care about this one.

Borderlands 2 getting a Vita bundle.

Borderlands 2 will come with 6 DLC packs (64gb card, please!).

Borderlands 2 will be cross-save, which is nice because everyone on PS+ got Borderlands 2 for free last month.

But my shitty internet doesn't stop me from streaming from my PS4, which is what I want it for.   :(

*Edit* - Wait, that justification doesn't make any sense since nothing about the Vita TV requires a good internet connection, and Playstation Now, which would require a good internet connection, is launching in NA first.

Vita TV does the whole Remote Play shebang, which is it's done from a distance would require decent internet speeds. PS Now isn't hitting Japan first because Japan won't have the PS4 until end of this month. And we've already covered the "yeah it's a bit silly that PS Now is coming out in NA first". Given previous game streaming success stories you'd figure they might purposefully aim to have as few fuck ups as possible as they launch.

Anyway I'm not head of SCEJ, ask them about it.

Remote play is primarily intended for within the same household though, which doesn't have anything to do with your net connection, just your LAN.

*Edit* - Also, PSNow is also on Vita, so lack of PS4 isn't really a justification for it.  If anything, lack of PS4 is a reason to wait to release the Vita TV there cause you don't have anything to stream from.

Yeah, I can remote play on my Vita from my bedroom (PS4 in the living room) without the use of an internet connection, so the internet speeds have 0 to do with this. Never mind most (all?) Vita games don't require an internet connection.

Anyways, I'm hopeful the Vita TV will launch in North America along with PS Now. It would just make sense.

So why do you guys want the Vita TV for really? You both have Vitas. Ive just never been a fan of playing handheld games on a tv. Its basically going against why I got a handheld in the first place.

Ill go one step further and say its a huge pet peeve of mine. Seeing kids play Pokemon Red in all its black and white glory on their SNES was so stupid to me. I just dont get it it at all. Nowadays i try to get as much stuff on portable as I can. Especially ports or games that just dont look that great.

Remote play PS4 games on a different TV. Being able to play some Vita games on TV is just a nice bonus. Also the implication of PS Now on my Samsung bedroom TV sounds great. Plus Netflix streaming (yes, I know there's other media streaming boxes out there, but none that can play PlayStation games.... besides PS3+4...).

I'm the opposite, something just feels small about playing games on a handheld, and I would always choose to play on a TV all other things being equal. I don't use the portability at all, beyond sitting alternately on the couch or the chair.

Anyway, I don't want the Vita TV for Vita games, I want it for PS4 streaming. It's a hassle to move the PS4 between rooms and I obviously don't want to spend the money on a second one.

I also use my Vita almost exclusively for PS4 streaming. I know that seems contradictory given what I just said about preferring the TV, but playing on the Vita allows me to be in the main room with my wife while still playing my PS4 and without hogging the TV. What it doesn't work for, however, is playing a game with her, which is where having to move the PS4 comes in and what I would primarily want the Vita TV for.
