I can't really see the NGP being any more than $300. I can see it maybe being $350 at most but Sony won't want to price themselves out of the largest demographic and it's not going to look too attractive if the NGP costs more than a PSP. I've heard the argument made that they're going after the iPad/iPhone "up-market" demographic but I believe they'd be incredibly stupid to do so, especially with 3rd party developer support for a new Sony handheld being a hard sell after the PSP. The NGP is packed full of technology and it's certainly going to be more expensive than the 3DS but I think it'll be a reasonable price.

I'm of the opinion that they'll price it lower, though recent Shuhei comments of having the PSP exist alongside the NGP probably means it'll be priced above that for sure. My reasoning is that if it is easier to develop on the device and it does seem to have a better turnaround, dev costs would definitely be lower. We know that apps sell on itunes for a profit. The more expensive titles are usually titles by Square at £12 while most console pubs tend to price their games between 1.59 and 5.99. If dev costs are similar the whole sale price before markup will include a profit and even selling games at the current RRP/MSRP of PSP games would mean there's a good chunk of profits there.

There's been more than rumours that gamestop have some sort of NDA in place with Sony about the NGP/PSP2/whatever it may be called. (Though I believe that's mostly for retail exclusive dlcs which would be included in the cart when you buy them (eliminating the need to download them)). So if PSP titles are sold at the current price they could take a hit on hardware profits while making it through software cuts for the initial period (before it gets pirated/hacked like every gadget/device gets these days). I believe they could be gambling on the fact that by the time that happens the component costs would go down that they could effectively make a profit out of the device itself.

This also gives them a slight advantage over the 3DS as the games on the 3DS cost a little more than their DS counterparts. So even if the device is sold at a slightly higher markup, they can say their media are cheaper and thus it works out better for the customer in the long term.

Just a thought really.

The RAM isn't too huge a loss, at least the CPU n GPU are intact cos they were sweet. ()Just for comparison but the NGP now has on-par RAM with the PS3. Though half the VRAM)

The loss of internal storage is a huge kick in the teeth though, especially if they go with Memory Stick. Because internal space would be needed for saves and DD/DLC n such. And Memory Sticks aren't cheap. It'd feel more like they didn't remove it to save space, but to sell more memory sticks.
